Why My Mate Cries
Chapter 48

ALIYAH’S POV

I woke up and realized I fell asleep after Reid and I made love. As the sunshine poured into the room, my eyes immediately landed on the balcony. He was standing up there, topless, as he talked to someone over the phone. It didn’t take a while before he noticed me gawking at him, and I smiled the moment our gaze locked.

“Yeah, keep an eye on them.” He walked up to me while his phone was still on his ear. “Gotcha, I will talk to the elders and tell them my decision. Alright, bye.”

He then ended the call. I sat upright with my hand keeping the blanket wrapped on me to cover my body and asked, “Who is it?”

“It’s Sage,” he simply answered. His hand moved to my hair and caressed it. “How do you feel right now?”

“I feel great.” I couldn’t hide my smile at my words. “I’m so happy.”

“No pain, anything?”

“No pain, Reid,” I said as I shook my head.

He offered me a smile of relief. “That’s great. I need to go to the meeting to discuss my plan regarding the poor pack bunking on the main gates. Just stay here in the pack house. I will be back after an hour or two.”

“Have you made a decision? What are your plans for the pack that needs our help?” I asked curiously.

“I will take them in, Aliyah.”

My eyes widened in surprise. I was totally happy and relieved that he decided to take them in just like how he did when I left my pack. I held his arm and offered him a proud smile.

“You have no idea how you will be able to change their lives with your decision, Reid.”

“I can’t let my dead father down, little wolf.” He smirked and then ruffled my hair.

He then stood up and grabbed his black t-shirt from the couch.

“Can you bring me a vanilla ice cream when you go home?” I asked, as I instantly felt my craving for it.

“Sure, anything else you want to eat?”

“Chocolate ice cream?”

He laughed heartily, walked towards me and gave me a k**s on the lips.

“Alright, anything my mate wants, she gets.”

REID’S POV

All sorts of emotions were still bouncing around me when I left the room. Smiling, I couldn’t help but thank the Moon Goddess for letting me witness Aliyah’s when she learned that she was pregnant. It was so priceless, something that I would never forget in this lifetime.

I’ve never been this happy before. All my worries and hesitation vanished away from that moment. I saw the sheer amount of happiness in her eyes, and I promised myself that I would do everything so I could give her the love and care she needed, and to love our child the way I love her more than anyone else.

I went to the familiar meeting hall. The elders were already gathered to hear my decision regarding the pending issue with the pack outside the borders. Everyone greeted me as I entered the place. I stood up in front of them, sliding my hand into my pocket.

“I heard from Sage that they didn’t do anything suspicious over the past couple of days. Is this correct?” I asked.

Cecilia, Klaus’s mother, nodded in response. “The Beta and his troops have been keeping an eye on them, Alpha Reid. No suspicious movement so far.”

“That’s a relief.”

I inhaled and scanned the whole room. Every eye was on me, waiting for me to announce my decision. I knew they have been waiting for so long to resolve this matter, and I could only hope that my decision would result in a better outcome, not the other way around…

“I have decided to take them in,” I declared.

The elders gasped, but it didn’t take a while before I saw their happiness. A ghost of a smile escaped my lips at the thought that my pack valued not just their lives but even the lives of others. I couldn’t let them down, as I knew that they only wanted to help.

“We’re glad to know that you decided to take them in, Alpha. Those people will be happy once they learn they have a new home,” Cecilia said.

I nodded my head and smiled at her, and then looked at everyone again.

“With this decision I made, I hope that we can welcome them with open arms. I will put Klaus and Sage in charge of assisting them into their new home.”

My eyes found Sage among the crowd. He only nodded his head, and smirked.

I finished the meeting with the elders right away, and then I went to a mall in the town to buy ice cream for Aliyah. I wasn’t that knowledgeable when it came to pregnancy as it was a woman’s thing but I already had an idea she’d start to crave more for the next few days or weeks.

After buying her ice cream, I wandered around for a little bit, hoping to find something I could buy for her as a present. That’s when I found a jewelry store.

There was no doubt that Aliyah would be the only woman I would like to spend my life with. She was the person that gave me new hope, strength and made me realize I was capable of loving and being loved without any boundaries. The Moon Goddess had given her to me, and I would never let her go from now on.

With that, I considered buying her something special to seal everything we have; a kind of affirmation that I intended to stay with her through everything because I love her so much; a kind of assurance that I will never let go of her, and will do everything I can to keep her with me until my last breath.

I’ve never been this optimistic about life, not until I found her. Even though this new life was still kind of new to me, I’d be happy to embrace it… and I think I was ready to take this to the next level, especially now that we were having a baby.

I went inside the jewelry store and a staff member immediately walked up to me to assist.

“Alpha, may I know what you are looking for?”

My eyes found the corner that had different designs of the thing I’d want to buy. My lips curled into a smile, envisioning how Aliyah would be so happy once I she learned about my plan.

“Can you please help me choose an engagement ring?”
