When We Meet Again -
Chapter 51
"I guess we do," Ryan said and Matthew nodded.
"And I might know how to get in touch with Charlotte."
"You do?" Melvin asked, his eyes furrowed.
"Of course I do," Matthew answered. "I had someone investigate her and he was able to find out her possible location."
"Now that we know where her possible location could be. What is the plan?" Ryan asked.
"We just need to map out a plan, right?" Matthew asked. "We can start by..."
Melvin's phone began to ring, cutting Matthew short. Melvin picked his phone up from the table.
"I am so sorry, guys. Let me quickly pick up this call. It's Mia calling."
"Brother, have you seen the news?" Mia asked the moment Melvin picked the call up.
"Why do I need to see the news?" Melvin asked.
"Charlotte..." Mia sucked in some air.
She wasn't sure if she should tell him about it yet or let him find out about it himself.
Melvin also wondered why Mia stopped talking. What could be going on? Did something happen to Charlotte? He wondered.
He furrowed his brows. "What happened to Charlotte?"
"Nothing. It's just that..." Mia sighed. "Charlotte just cleared the air about your divorce," she announced.
Mia's words came as a surprise to Melvin; he blinked. "What do you say? What do you mean by the fact that she cleared the air about our divorce?" "Check it out yourself, Melvin. I am still angry with you and I will not be saying anything to you."
"Can you at least tell me what is going on?" Melvin asked.
"Like I said before, I have nothing to say to you. Check the news. It's not only on the news. It's all over the internet too."
"What do you..." Mia ended the call before Melvin could finish his words. He groaned. "What is going on here? Why did she end the call?"
He dropped the phone on the table and sighed.
"Is everything fine?" David asked.
"What happened to Charlotte?" Matthew asked. He was more worried about Charlotte's well-being and wanted to know what Mia had said. "What did she say about Mia?" "Are you okay?" Ryan asked. "What did your sister say?"
Melvin stared at Matthew and then at Ryan. "Well," he began. "Mia just told me something I am finding difficult to believe," Melvin answered.
"What could that be?" David asked.
Matthew furrowed his brows. "Did Charlotte do something..."
"Can you tell us what it is already?" Ryan said. "Stop putting us in the dark."
Melvin sighed. "Mia just told me that Charlotte cleared the air about our divorce."
David furrowed his brows. "What do you mean?"
"I think she did an interview or something," Melvin replied. "Mia said it's all over the news and the internet."
Ryan picked his phone up. "I will check that out.". He began to scroll through his phone. The news of Charlotte's interview was all over the internet just like Mia said. "Oh my..." Ryan blinked. "It's all over the internet. Did you see the comments? There are so many of them."
"What do you mean?" Matthew asked.
"You guys should check your phones," Ryan answered. "There is a video you need to watch."
Matthew, David, and Melvin brought out their phones quickly to see the video Ryan had talked about.
"Please, use your ear pods guys," Ryan said. "I can't hear a thing."
They all began to watch Charlotte speak about her divorce with Melvin on their separate phones. Silence took over the room. When they were done watching, they got lost in their separate thoughts. The silence lingered for a little while until Ryan spoke up.
"Guys, I find it difficult to believe this," he said. "I am so surprised Charlotte could do this."
"You are not as surprised as I am, Ryan. Who would have thought she would help out without being asked?" David answered.
Melvin stared at them. "I... I am short of words."
"You definitely should be," Matthew mumbled.
Melvin's phone began to ring again..
"Who is calling this time?" Ryan asked.
"My Secretary," Melvin answered. "I wonder what he has to say."
"Maybe he has good news," Ryan said.
"I am sure it's good news," Matthew answered.
The call ended and began to ring immediately.
"You should pick your phone up quickly," David said, and Melvin nodded.
He picked up the phone. "Sam, what is going on?"
"It's good news, Sir," Sam answered.
"What is the good news?"
"Our stock just skyrocketed. And the boards are very happy about it."
"Are you serious about that?"
"Yes, boss. Most of our clients have begun to call back to sign a contract with us. They are also willing to pay for all the damages they have caused us."
Melvin blinked. This was the least he expected.
"Most of them want to meet with you tomorrow," Sam said and Melvin smiled.
"That is good news."
"It is, boss. More calls are coming in. I have to go now."
The call ended and Melvin smiled. "Guys, there is good news!"
"I can tell," Matthew said.
"The problem has been solved. Our stock is back on track. Clients who left are coming back and we have new ones too."
"That is huge!" Ryan said.
David nodded. "Yes, it is."
They were all happy with the news; it was the best news they had received today. Just a few hours ago, everything was a mess. Thank goodness everything is fine now. "Finally!" David said.
Matthew smiled. "I knew it."
"Well," Ryan began. "We need to celebrate this with some bottles of alcohol.". He sighed. "I wish we could go to the bar."
"This is not the time to do that," David said. "But we are still going to celebrate though."
"What will you do about Charlotte?" Matthew asked.
Melvin blinked. He had not thought about that.
**
It's been a few days since Charlotte helped Melvin save the day. Everything had returned to normal and the media were not after him anymore. Melvin was genuinely grateful to everyone who had helped him out. He was more grateful to Charlotte who had helped him the most. She did not only help in terms of their divorce, but she also helped in bringing back a few clients that had left. She also helped the company get new clients; he found out about that when he went to the office.
Despite everything going well, Mia and his mother were not happy that they were both divorced. Charlotte had told the media that they were not divorced and that she was away because she wanted to fulfill her dreams, but Mia knew they were; she told her mother so. Mia's mother was angry at Melvin for lying to her about his marriage and also for divorcing Charlotte without informing her first. She was also angry at Charlotte for letting Melvin use her.
"I do not care if your marriage was a fake or if you are now both divorced. You have to get her back." She told Melvin.
Melvin wanted her back too. He had realized that he was in love with her and he regretted letting her go in the first place. He knew how difficult it would be to get her back so he asked for Mia's help. At first, she was reluctant but ended up agreeing at the end.
"I can only give you her number," she said. "You find a way to bring her back."
Getting in touch with Charlotte was a bit difficult. When he finally did, he was happy. He did not waste time in telling her who he was and why he called. He had told her that he called to thank her for helping him out and he hoped he could meet up with her to thank her adequately.
Charlotte who wanted nothing to do with him also did not waste time to make it clear to him that she did not do what she did for any gain and he doesn't have to thank her personally.
"Whatever I have done is not because I wanted anything from you. I did it for Mia. I hope you will not call me again.
Bye."
"I..."
She ended the call before he could say a word and that caught him by surprise. He could tell that she was no longer the Charlotte he used to know. This new Charlotte is going to be a hard nut to crack. But why did she not tell the media about their divorce? He wondered.
