When We Meet Again -
Chapter 50
Charlotte and Bella had just successfully acquired the property which is good news for them. They had followed up with the payment and signing of the documents, after meeting up with Helen, their lawyer and also confirming that the old woman was the rightful owner of the storehouse.
"Congratulations. I hope your dream comes true" Bella told Charlotte after everything had been signed.
"Thank you," Charlotte mumbled.
"Are you okay? You looked disturbed. Are you not happy with the property?" Bella asked.
She was worried that something might be going on with Charlotte which may have something to do with the space they just got. Helen who had come with them was worried too. She had not seen Charlotte in such a mood before. "Are you okay, Charlotte?" She asked too. "Is there something wrong with..."
Charlotte shook her head quickly. "No, no. There is nothing wrong with the place we just got. You both know that I love it."
"Then why do you look so sad?" Bella asked.
Charlotte stared at Bella and then at Helen. Noticing how worried they were, she tried to fake a smile.
"Trust me. I am fine."
"Are you sure?" Helen asked and she nodded.
Bella said nothing. She could tell that Charlotte wasn't happy; something was going on with her. And as much as Bella wanted to know what was wrong with Charlotte, she knew this wasn't the right time to ask.
"Congratulations, once more, Charlotte," Helen said. "And Bella too." She added. "Because this is not Charlotte's success alone."
Bella smiled. "Thank you, Helen."
"Thank you, Helen," Charlotte said.
Helen sighed. "I wish I could celebrate this first step of success with you girls but I have a client waiting at the office. I have to go."
"You do not have to worry. We can always celebrate it when you have the chance," Charlotte answered.
Helen's eyes brightened up. "We can?"
"Sure," Charlotte answered.
Helen smiled. "Then I will find the perfect time to do that. The bills will be on me."
"I am looking forward to that," Bella answered.
"And me too," Charlotte said. Hannah kissed them goodbye and left. Charlotte sighed. "Can we go home now?"
Bella nodded. "Of course because you have a lot to talk to me about."
They left the storehouse and headed home in silence. Bella could not stop thinking about what could be wrong with Charlotte. She had been down for a few days now and she had thought it was stress from looking for a space. She had not expected her to remain like that even after getting such a good space at a cheaper price.
What could be wrong? Bella thought. Does it have anything to do with Mia? She had not called since the last time she did. Charlotte had tried calling her line but it never went through.
They got to the house and Charlotte headed to the kitchen to get herself a glass of cold milk. Bella followed her.
"What is going on with you?" She asked.
"Nothing is going on with me," Charlotte insisted.
"Please, don't tell me that. We both know something isn't right. You've been moody and absent-minded. We got back and you headed to the kitchen without asking me what I would like to take. That is so unlike you. Is it about Mia? You still can't get in touch with her?"
Charlotte sighed. She picked her glass of milk up and went to sit on the stool. She won't be keeping anything away from Bella; she had promised herself that.
"Not being able to get in touch with Mia was a problem at first. I had wondered why her line wasn't connecting. I thought she was still angry at me. It finally went through and I found out that Melvin's I mean the President of..." "I know who you are referring to," Bella answered.
"Well, I found out that his girlfriend left him after leaking to the media about our divorce."
Bella furrowed her brows. "You mean your divorce that was supposed to be a secret is known by all?"
Charlotte nodded. "The company is in a great mess and I feel pity for him."
Bella sighed. She has always known that her boss, now her friend has always loved the President.
"Is there a way we could help?" Bella asked.
She knows that is the only way to get Charlotte to smile again.
Charlotte nodded. "If only we could get some documents from the company."
"What about your divorce issue? Is there anything you can do about it?"
Charlotte nodded. "I think there is."
Bella smiled. "You do what you have to do. I will get all the documents you need. I am sure Mia will help out."
Charlotte smiled. "Thank you, Bella. You're the best."
**
The room had been in total silence for a while now; the sound of a falling pin could be heard. They had all been lost in their thoughts; all four of them.
"So what is the next step now that we've known all these?" Ryan asked, breaking the silence that had lingered for too long.
"I was about to say that," Matthew answered.
"But you did not. Which made me The sole owner of the suggestion."
"You do not have to pick a fight over that, you know?"
"Well, I do not think Ryan is the only one trying to pick a fight here, but you both," David said.
Melvin sighed. "I think I need a drink."
He had been quiet after listening to all Matthew had said about Alexia. It was difficult for him to believe every word he had said though at some point he also suspected Alexia's return. He stood up, heading to the door. "Melvin?" David called, standing up. "Let me go with you."
David was worried about Melvin. Seeing how sad and disappointed he looked.
Melvin nodded. "Fine."
They left the room together while Matthew and Ryan remained in the room.
"Do you have a suggestion?" Ryan asked Matthew. "I hope you do."
Matthew shrugged. "If I am to be truthful with you. The only solution is to bring Charlotte back. They do not have to be married again. They just need to make the people believe that they are together."
Ryan nodded. Though he hates to admit that Charlotte had been nothing but a good influence on Melvin and he had always disagreed with others about Charlotte, he could not disagree this time.
"Do you think we can get her into the picture?" Ryan asked.
Matthew shrugged. "I did a little research on her and I think I know where she is but getting in touch with her will be a bit difficult."
"Why did you say so?"
"Do you think we deserve to ask her for help? None of us were close to her when she was with Melvin. We had no good relationship, did we? Aside from that, we did nothing when Melvin divorced her. I do not think we deserve that." Ryan sighed. Matthew was right. They were never close to her and they never tried to know her.
"You were better Matthew. You had always defended her no matter the situation," Ryan said.
"But I never made that known to her. She doesn't even know me as Melvin's friend. Does she?" Matthew asked.
"What are we going to do now? Melvin and David will be back soon."
"Well, we find a way to get through to her. We can also do what you have suggested"
"Covering a scandal with a bigger one?"
Matthew nodded. "Exactly."
The door opened and David and Melvin walked in with two bottles of wine.
"Who is in for a drink?" David asked.
Ryan furrowed his brows. "Should we not be looking for a solution."
"Says someone who likes to drink," Matthew teased.
"Well, I am interested in the drink. I won't miss that for anything. But I think we should have a solution first. That way I can drink in peace."
"Well," David began. "Melvin and I talked and we came up with an idea. We were to share it with you guys over a drink but you were just too impatient."
"You mean Ryan, right? I wasn't impatient." Matthew defended.
"But you were worried," Ryan answered.
Matthew shrugged. "Isn't that normal?"
Ryan sighed. "Being impatient at this point is normal too. We all know that we need to act fast. I just want us to prove to Alexia that no matter what problem she caused, we can solve it in a twinkle of an eye. And if there is anyone who lost, that is her."
Matthew stared Ryan. "Is it Ryan talking or someone else?"
"What do you mean by that?" Ryan asked.
"You know," David said. "You've always loved your drinks more than anything. It's surprising to see you want to talk instead of drinking."
"I never said that I am not drinking," Ryan answered.
"But you are willing to do that after we reach a solution," David answered.
Melvin smiled. "Thank you, Ryan. I am shocked too though."
Ryan rolled his eyes. "Can we hear the idea you have? I might be changing my mind soon."
David and Melvin sat down. "We thought that it would be good to consider both my suggestion and Ryan's suggestion. What do you guys think?"
Ryan nodded. "Matthew and I have spoken too and we arrived at the same conclusion as you guys."
Melvin's eyes widened. "Do we have a solution now?"
