When We Meet Again
Chapter 49

Melvin sighed. "Come on, Matthew. This is not the time to joke around. We both know you have a lot to say to me."

"But I do not want to spill anything out," Matthew answered, picking a file from the table.

"I know you do not want to, but can you please not be like that with the situation at hand? You know what is at stake right? If I don't find a solution soon."

Matthew sighed. "Fine, I will tell you everything I know. I wish I had a choice though, I won't say anything to you because you've never listened to me before." He sighed. "But seeing how much you are already suffering, I guess I do not have an option here. Let's call Ryan and David. They should meet us at our usual bar. I do not plan to repeat myself twice or three times"

"Thanks, man," Melvin said with a smile. "I do appreciate it, you know right."

Matthew smiled. "What are friends for? I just hope you will treat people better. You never can tell who will be of help to you." "When you mean people you mean Charlotte right?"

Matthew shrugged. "I wasn't really, referring to Charlotte. But we both know that if you had treated her better even though you are both divorced she would still be of help."

Melvin nodded. He can't disagree with that. He knew he had acted out of impulse making her come back from Paris without letting her finish her two weeks vacation. That was her first vacation in a long time; she had always been busy with work, dedicating all her time and energy to it.

He also knew that he shouldn't have divorced her just like that without giving her a few days or even weeks to process it. He knew he was wrong but he had not expected her to resign from the office, reject his compensation money, stay away from her family, and disappear into thin air.

He sighed. "I guess I am wrong,"

Matthew stared at him. Did Melvin just agree that he was wrong?

"You do not have to feel bad though. I promise you that we will find a solution and everything will be fine. Let me quickly finish signing these documents so we can leave."

Melvin nodded. "I will call Ryan and David."

Matthew began to sign the documents in front of him and was done in a few minutes.

"We can leave now, man." He announced and Melvin nodded.

"David and Ryan will meet us at the bar."

"Well, I think meeting at your house will be better," Matthew said. "The media are already after you. If they see you in a bar, don't you think they might want to drag you further?"

Melvin nodded. "I haven't thought about that but you are right. I do not want the media or online spectators dragging me on the internet. A lot is going on with me already. I will place a call to David and..." "You call David and I will call Ryan. It will be faster that way."

Melvin nodded. "That is a good idea."

Melvin placed a call to David while Matthew placed a call to Ryan. When they were both done, they left Matthew's office and headed to Melvin's mansion. Hannah welcomed them when they got home.

"Please get us something to eat," Melvin said. "Ryan and David will be joining us too."

"Ok, sir," Hannah replied.

Melvin and Matthew went upstairs to Melvin's room. Melvin headed to the bathroom to take his bath and change into more comfortable clothes while Matthew settled down on the couch. Melvin came out half an hour later. "Do you want to take your bath also? I have some new clothes in my closet. They should be your size."

Matthew shrugged. It will not be a bad idea to take his bath and feel more refreshed. He had been so busy throughout the day, going from one business meeting to another.

"I think I will do that." He said, standing up. "When David and Ryan come, they can't say a word before I return or I won't tell them what I know, too." He sighed. "I know they won't listen though."

Melvin smiled. "When you say they won't listen, you mean Ryan right? He is the only one who would want to talk just because you said he shouldn't."

Matthew nodded. "I should head to the bathroom. I hope the food will be ready before I come out. I am famished."

"I can tell you are. Your stomach has said it all."

Matthew rolled his eyes. "Whatever."

It was time for Matthew to tell them what he had for them. They were all done eating and rested for a few minutes. Ryan and Matthew sat on the bed while David and Melvin were settled on the couch, all ready to listen to Matthew. "Where should I start?" Matthew asked.

"Alexia," Ryan said. "I need to know why she came without informing anyone. Not even Melvin. I also need to know why she caused such a great problem for Melvin, only to leave without a word."

David and Melvin nodded in agreement. Just like Ryan, they also want to know.

"Well," Matthew began. "I have always been suspicious of her return. Aside from the fact that we do not like each other and we do not get along, I suspected her return. At first, I thought she had informed Melvin or maybe Ryan but when the two of you confirmed that you knew nothing about it, my suspicion increased and I began to investigate her. Do you know what I found out?"

"No," David said, while Melvin shook his head.

"How are we to know that?" Ryan answered.

"Of course, I know you don't. I just ask to be sure you are all following me keenly," Matthew answered.

Ryan furrowed his brows. "What do you mean by that? Are you saying we do not like to listen?"

"If there is anyone who doesn't like to listen, that should be you. We all know how much you like a conversation being summarized and I do not plan to do that," Matthew answered. "Are you..."

"Ryan, Matthew. That is enough. We have a lot to talk about." David said.

Melvin chuckled. "It's funny how they will act like they have no issue in a few minutes now."

Ryan scoffed but said nothing.

"As I said before I went on to carry out an investigation," Matthew continued. "And I found out that, Alexia had a big fight with another celebrity which led the other celebrity into a coma," "Wait, you mean Alexia got into a fight which led someone into a coma?" Ryan asked.

"Did you know what led to the fight?" Melvin asked and Matthew nodded.

"Alexia had been stealing some of her gigs. The celebrity knew about it but did nothing because her agency asked her not to. But the last one she took, caused the other celebrity a lot and she became furious so she went to confront her. That led to a serious fight and Alexia, you know how hot temper she can be. She picked up a statue and hit the other lady on her head and that led her straight into a coma. Now to the reason why she returned."

"That is not the reason?" Ryan asked.

"It's just a part. After the other celebrity got into a coma, her agency demanded an apology from Alexia and also asked that she take full responsibility for the treatment. She was to take care of her until she woke up since the doctor had assured them that she would. The coma was due to shock and the impact of the statue on her head. But we all know Alexia, she refused. The news of what she did was leaked to the other celebrity's fans and they went after Alexia. She had to run away and the best place to come was Melvin's place. She only needed to stay away from the media and no one would know where she was."

Ryan groaned. "What the hell?!"

"Why did she go back then?" David asked.

"Well, the celebrity woke up and Alexia's agency was able to come to terms with her agency. They were willing to pay for all damages and that settled it. This will lead me to why she caused a problem. It was time for her to return to her world but she couldn't because of Melvin. So she decided to leak his divorce with Charlotte to the media. That way, she could blame Melvin for everything and leave without a fault. She did not expect Melvin to find out she was the one who tipped off the media. She also did not expect the problem to have such a great impact on him,". He sighed. "She must have felt so bad about it but her life as a celebrity was much more important."

Silence took over the room with everyone lost in their thoughts. They were all hurt but not as hurt as Melvin who regretted taking Alexia back without proper investigation.
