True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1368
Devoted herself to love?
When Maria heard him, she felt that she was being laughed at. However, wasn't she such a person?
She was outrageously devoted to one person.
She chose to walk this path no matter what. Even if it was difficult and rugged, she still wanted to see it through.
Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, Maria didn't want to be seen through by Ernest.
Only God knew how tired she was and how hard it was for her to persist.
"Ernest, it's confusing that you described me as such," Maria chuckled and turned to look at the night sky in the distance. A while later, she muttered, "I can't live up to such a beautiful description."
Ernest smiled gently and asked, "Didn't you devote yourself to going to London University out of love for the place?"
Maria was stunned. She was really a little surprised by what Ernest said.
She blinked and burst into laughter.
"Well, Ernest, if that's the case, I don't have any objections to what you said," She stood up as she said, "That's just how I feel about London University."
Ernest stopped talking.
He knew that it was because Liam had spent three years at London University.
Since he was there, Maria persisted.
Truthfully, he didn't really like Maria at first, and he didn't think that she and Liam would be a good match.
However, now, he didn't know what to feel. There was a sense of loss in his heart.
He felt that Maria's persistence needed a result.
It needed a wonderful and fulfilling result.
It was as if that was the only way to give him a sense of satisfaction in life.
He was incomplete, but he suddenly hoped that Maria would not follow in his footsteps.
Ernest sat beside Maria.
Maria was stunned and turned to look at him.
The 20-year-old Ernest had a very coy face and a slender figure. He was a handsome boy.
He was her cousin.
Maria looked at Ernest at that moment, and she could see the concern in his eyes.
She smiled wryly, "Are you worried about me?"
If it was in the past, Ernest would probably just smile and not answer.
But this time, he actually nodded and admitted, "Yes."
Maria raised her eyebrows at him and was a little surprised.
"Don't scare me. I'm terrified now that you're suddenly so emotional."
"Are you worried that I have a hidden motive?" Ernest chuckled and looked up at the night sky.
"Yes, I always thought that you disliked me," Maria said bluntly, "Although you're very gentle, polite and quiet, I know that you didn't like me."
Ernest cleared his throat and felt a little embarrassed.
"Sorry, Maria," He apologized, "I really didn't like you before."
"Do you mean that you like me now?" Maria laughed and looked at Ernest's clothes.
Ernest only turned back to look at Maria and said, "You're my cousin, and we're related by blood."
Maria pursed her lips slightly. She could tell that he really didn't like her before.
However, it did not matter. She wasn't really a likeable person anyways.
When she was younger, everyone addressed her as a little devil.
Now that she thought about it, she felt that the memory was distant and behind her now.
"You're a decent person. I hope you'll be happy," Ernest spoke in a solemn tone.
Maria lowered her gaze and suddenly felt like laughing out loud. She remembered that four years ago, Ernest told her that Liam was not suitable for her. Over the past four years, Ernest had never taken her to meet Liam. She knew that they had met each other in secret multiple times. They were friends, so it was natural.
She could only suppress her feelings and rely on her own efforts to get close to Liam. Yet, Liam did not even remember her last name. Now that she recalled that, it was really ridiculous and sad.
The lights outside were not as bright as the inside of the house, but Ernest could detect Maria's sadness at a glance.
Her gaze was lowered and she was trembling slightly. She looked lonely.
"Maria, I'm sorry," Ernest murmured softly yet seriously.
Maria looked up and stared at her. Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, she seemed to think of something and her emotions started to stir.
She wanted to laugh, but she didn't know why. Her eyes were teary, and her nose felt stuffy. Soon, her tears began to stream down her face. Ernest was shocked as his eyes narrowed.
"Sorry, I didn't really want to cry," Maria wiped away her tears with the back of her hand. However, her tears just wouldn't stop, and soon she cupped her face with both of her hands.
She said with a muffled voice from between her fingers, "I feel worthless, but your words touched me. It's actually really rare for me to feel like this."
Ernest was stunned and sighed. He tried to joke around, "Are you secretly cursing me?"
"No," Maria quickly shook her head as she wiped her tears dry. She then stared at him and clarified, "I really didn't mean that."
"I always feel like you're insulting me," Ernest said as he laughed, "However, even if you're like this, I won't be angry."
"I'm just laughing at myself," Maria didn't want to hide anything. Since Ernest was honest, she decided to come clean with her emotions and said, "Ernest, you are smart. I cried today not only because you apologized and moved me, but more importantly, because you saw through me."
Ernest was confused until she mentioned Liam.
"I like Liam," Maria admitted, "This kind of love is beyond everything I know. I know that even if I don't admit it, all of you can see it clearly. If I don't admit it now, I'm just trying to cover it up and pretend that I'm fine."
There was a flash in Ernest's eyes and a trace of pain in his heart. He could empathize with her.
Love was the most hurtful thing in a one-sided relationship.
Now, Maria could at least say that she liked Liam.
Yet, he was not even qualified to say that he liked Celeste.
"Maria, you still have a chance," Ernest didn't want to upset Maria anymore. Even if he thought they were not suitable, he didn't tell her since he knew it would hurt her more.
He wanted to comfort Maria.
The corners of Maria's eyes were soaked with tears. However, her eyes were twinkling.
Then, she broke into a sincere and bright smile and laughed, "Thank you, Ernest."
Looking at her teary eyes, Ernest also smiled sincerely and warmly, "Silly girl, you don't need to be so polite to me."
Maria shook her head and looked at Ernest's face with mixed feelings. A while later, she muttered, "Also, I'm sorry."
Ernest was stunned. They were all smart people. Naturally, he understood why Maria apologized.
"I should have apologized four years ago," Maria looked at him seriously and said, "I owe you an apology. I'm truly sorry."
She had helped Gary four years ago, but by doing so, she had hurt Ernest.
"It's not your fault," Ernest shook his head and sighed, "It's just a matter of fate. No one can control that."
