True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1367
After being teased, Celeste's face turned red in an instant.
"Haha, I'm not laughing at you," Maria chuckled, but she still couldn't help but laugh, "Celeste, I'm really not laughing at you."
"I don't believe you one bit," Celeste also started chuckling with a blush on her face, "If you want to laugh, then laugh. You'll experience these things in future anyway." Maria was stunned, and there was a flash of selfmockery in her eyes. Was she really going to experience it?
It was unlikely.
Liam didn't like her, but she still liked him.
That was why she didn't have much confidence in their future together.
"Come on, let's go downstairs," Maria patted Celeste to her feet and said, "They might get annoyed after waiting for too long."
"OK."
When they went downstairs, Maria had already calmed down.
Girl talk was always private.
Compared to a hearty talk between guys, girls would always choose to keep their gossip a secret between them.
When they reached the bottom of the stairs, they saw Gary and Ernest chatting as well. The main topic of their conversation seemed to be Liam. Maria's eyes twinkled.
Then, Ernest spoke, "Maria, Liam has returned home, and he is in an awkward situation."
"It's none of my business," Maria immediately retorted, "I'm hungry. Let's have dinner. It's a special day today. Shouldn't we celebrate?" Ernest turned his eyes and fixed them on Maria's stubborn face. He frowned and looked at Gary again.
Gary also looked at him but didn't say anything.
Celeste was well aware of Maria's mood. She was covering it up.
She did not want anyone to know about her feelings for Liam.
She looked at Maria and sighed silently, but could only attempt to help Maria by saying, "I'm hungry too. Let's have dinner together."
"Dinner's ready," Gary had already gotten up and ordered the butler to prepare the meal.
Maria deliberately pretended to be lively during the dinner. Everyone felt pity when they saw her like this.
Everyone knew that it was heart-wrenching for someone to put on a brave face.
Therefore, after the meal, Celeste did not want to leave because she was worried about Maria.
Gary had wanted to bring her back to their residence, but Celeste was worried and said to him, "I want to stay here tonight. I'll go back tomorrow." Gary glanced at her and asked, "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure," Celeste nodded very seriously.
"Must we stay here?"
"Yeah, I'm worried about Maria," Celeste explained.
Gary had no choice but to give in, "Okay."
"We can go back tomorrow."
"Sure," He was still very easy to persuade.
It was rare for Gary to not persist.
Nevertheless, Celeste was very grateful.
She was going to chat with Maria, but Ernest was one step ahead of her and pulled Maria to the rooftop to her surprise.
Over at the rooftop, they turned on the lights.
Although it was nighttime, the scenery was still beautiful and calming.
Maria sat down on the bench on the roof and looked at Ernest, initiating a conversation, "Ernest, what are you doing? You dragged me here right after dinner. What do you have to say?" "Wait a minute," Ernest took out his phone and said to Maria calmly.
Maria frowned and saw Ernest calling someone.
Soon, the call was connected.
Ernest quickly greeted, "Hello, Liam. From your voice, it seems that I woke you up?"
Maria was stunned upon realizing that he had called Liam. She was a little surprised, and her gaze unconsciously fell on the phone.
At that moment, Ernest, who was holding the phone, looked up at Maria. When he saw her eyes fixed on the phone in his hand, he understood her true intentions.
She really couldn't forget Liam.
With just one phone call made to Liam, Ernest had uncovered Maria's feelings towards Liam. Gary really knew Maria well.
It was no wonder that Maria helped his brother out in the very first place. It seemed that there were many things that were beginning to make sense.
"Liam, are you all right?" As Ernest said this, he turned on the speaker.
"I'm fine," Liam's hoarse voice could be heard from the other side of the phone. One only needed to hear his voice once to know that he was not doing well at all.
"Do you need help from Gary and I?" Ernest asked Liam.
As a friend, he didn't want Liam to feel depressed, and he didn't want Liam to give up on himself either.
"There's no need," Liam smiled and sighed, "No one can help me now."
Ernest was slightly startled. It seemed that Liam had been mentally prepared.
"There are still three years left before your contract ends, right?"
"Yes," Liam sighed, "I can't terminate the contract now as I'm bound to the terms and conditions. Even if someone wants to help me, they have to pay a huge sum. It's not worth paying a fortune for an artist like me."
Ernest didn't say anything because he understood that the compensation for terminating the contract was definitely not a small amount of money. It must be a huge sum.
Even if he wanted to lend a helping hand, he would
probably having to rely on his father.
"So you and Gary don't need to worry about me," Liam tried to laugh it off, "I'm already very touched to have you two as friends. I'm really moved that you are still asking me this now, but there are some things that I have to do by myself."
"Well, Liam, I hope you can get out of this situation as soon as possible," Ernest was sincere.
"Of course," Liam smiled again, "Take care of yourself. Let's get together soon."
"Okay," Seeing that the call was about to end, Ernest looked at Maria. There was nothing he could do to help.
"Alright, see you," Liam seemed to be in a hurry to hang up the phone.
When Ernest saw Maria's eyes narrow, he quickly added, "Liam, next time, you must find a reliable company to take care of you."
"Of course," After saying that, Liam paused and hung up the phone.
On the other side, Ernest and Maria heard the beeping sound of the call being cut, and both of them were a little stunned.
Maria smiled faintly, and her face looked a little pale.
"Ernest, why did you ask me to listen to your call with Liam?" Maria complained, "He's a blacklisted artist. Can he really pull himself back together?"
Ernest looked at her and didn't try to stop her from pretending to be okay. He just said, "Why are you being so sensitive? I asked you to come here for other things. Why do you think that I purposely let you listen in my call with Liam?"
Maria was stunned by Ernest's question, and she laughed at herself.
He was right.
She seemed to be very sensitive right now.
"Then what do you want to talk to me about?" Maria calmed herself down and flashed a smile at him. It was as though her loss of composure a while ago hadn't happened at all.
"Are you going to do your Ph.D. at London University?" asked Ernest.
"Of course," Maria nodded with a smile. "That place has always been my favorite."
The corners of Ernest's mouth curled up as he smirked, "Maria, you've gone beyond my expectations, but I really admire you."
"Why do you admire me?" Maria tilted her head to look at him. She still pretended to be strong and beamed at him.
Ernest also looked at her with a faint smile and explained, "You've devoted yourself to love."
