ALPHA KING JOSH'S POV

Adam swallowed hard and audibly when I repeated my question.

I wasn't trying to interrogate him. He was my trusted Beta after all.

"So what are you doing?" Max questioned in my mind, trying to understand me.

And I responded, "I am simply trying to be a possessive male before Rose. Women like these things and-"

Max retorted, "You are crazy. I mean it. You are insane."

Yes, I was insane. All thanks to the green-eyed woman who had kept me awake all night. I have been thinking about how to understand her. All night, I couldn't come up with a plan because all my life, I had never dated any woman. I have been weirdly allergic to women which made dating a problem and I thought it was better to wait for my mate.

However, Rose stormed into my life and made me forget the possibility of having a destined mate. That was how much I have fallen for her. Was this love? I couldn't be sure. It could be a pure obsession.

Adam finally realized what I was trying to do. He frowned, "I am here to check if she is still here and alive, Alpha King Josh. Or have you forgotten that you ordered me to watch her despite my many and strenuous duties as your Beta?"

I rolled my eyes and etched, "I define your duties, Adam." Adam's lips thinned as I shifted my gaze from him to the breathtaking woman standing between the door frame. "Good morning, Rose. How are you doing? Did you enjoy your first night in my home and as my Girl-"

Rose cut my statement short and she laughed breathlessly, "Thanks for your hospitality, My King. You are so kind." I could hear the sarcasm in her voice but I ignored it and moved closer to her, invading her personal space. "Stay back...."

Rose muttered, taking steps away from me as she flushed. I smirked and asked, "You Have bags under your eyes, Rose. Didn't you like the room enough to feel comfortable at night?"

My playful tone became serious as worry seized me. However, Adam blurted in my mind, "I am still here, My King."

"Then disappear. Take your presence with you and while you are at that, assemble the warriors for the morning training session."

Adam didn't appreciate the fact that I was making him leave. He was curious about Rose and even though he must have figured out who she was in his head, knowing Adam, he would want to confirm with Rose herself. That must be why he was conversing with her before I walked in on them.

"I will take my leave and assemble the warriors, My King." Adam grinned as he spoke audibly. "We will be waiting for the Alpha King. Hopefully, he will join us soon." Adam added, making emphasis, on the word "waiting" and the words, "join us soon".

He was being extra dramatic but thankfully, he took the hint and left to assemble the warriors like I asked him.

"So... Why do you have eye bags and why are you tense, Girlfriend."

I focused on Rose as she fiddled with her nails avoiding eye contact with me. Jokes aside, she was tense and the bags under her eyes made me worried.

When she didn't respond, I asked, "Do you want me to call Tamira, or better still, order Judy to check your health-"

"I am fine, Alpha King Josh." Rose uttered firmly but she doesn't look fine to me.

I stated, "Don't blame me for worrying about my girlfriend-"

Again, Rose cut in, "Can you please stop referring to me as your girlfriend? It's odd and-"

I countered, "Does that mean you are ready to answer my questions?" Rose became quiet. "I thought so. Until you are ready to answer my questions, you will be my Girlfriend, Rose. Get used to that."

She tucked her lower lips into her mouth before shaking her head, disagreeing with me but before she could let out her argument, I voiced, "Change your outfit. Wear something comfortable and thin." My eyes racked her body as I spoke. I noticed that Rose was still in the same dress that Tamira wore for her while healing her.

"Why will I want to do that? Something thin? I might as well walk naked to please you."

She fired, making me realize she had misunderstood my words and intentions.

But I chuckled, "I like your line of thoughts, Rose. I will like to see you naked and get to save every part of you in my mind."

I didn't bother to let her know that I told her to change her outfit because I wanted her to join the warriors and me on the training field. Rose's eyes widened when I became extra suggestive. She tried to slam the door in my face but I held the door with one hand while my other and shot out to grab her,

"Let's go of me!" She yelled when my hand circled around her waist and pulled her out of her room completely.

"Will you stop fighting me and do as I say for once?"

I yelled right back but Rose didn't seem to be listening to me. Her eyes scanned the corridors fearfully. She inhaled and exhaled sharply as her eyes shifted from one corner to another. "She feels unsafe, Josh. She is scared."

Max informed me as he accessed Rose's scent. I quickly pulled her into my arms hoping my action would assure her that she was safe with me, but still, she struggled against my hold. "Leave me alone! You have to let me go!"

She started panicking just like she did when she woke up in the previous room. She was close to experiencing another panic attack but I won't let her.

I hugged her tightly and let out the truth, "I wasn't sexualizing you when I told you to change, Rose. I said you should change because I wanted you to come to the training field with me so calm the fuck down!"

"I thought it would be a good way to get to know you and also get you to relax." I added with a gentle tone as she stopped trashing against me.

"I want more than s*x from you, Rose. I want everything you are willing to offer."

I confessed, opening my heart to her again. Her breath became normal again and her scent also carried a calmer aura.

Rose relaxed in my arms and I held her tightly for about two minutes before she pulled back slowly. Her face was flushed and I could still see fear lurking in the corners of her green eyes. What was she so scared of?

Alpha Richard? Or was there another villain in her life?

Obviously, I had to find those answers myself. She wouldn't tell me.

The invitation to the training field was majorly to help me get answers. On the field, I would be able to measure her strength, find out her bloodline; whether she was an Alpha Blood female or not; and get closer to her by training her myself. That was the plan and it seemed like a good idea for a first date, right?

"Right." Max answered sarcastically.

"Don't blame me. I have never been this close to a woman."

I defended myself and returned my attention to Rose. "Come to the field with me-"

Rose surprised me by nodding even before I could finish asking nicely. Her eyes shifted from one corner of the corridor before they met mine. Rose mumbled, "I will come with you."

Well, that was better. I thought but Rose stunned me when she added a but, "But"... She took a break and kept me in suspense.

"But what?"

I asked curiously.

Rose answered nervously, "But I do not have any clothes. So I can't change."

Oh... That was no problem.

"Come with me."

I voiced and grabbed her hand without thinking twice. I noticed Rose's reluctance and also perceived the way her fear skyrocketed.

To be honest, this woman had become a shadow of the woman that found me in the forest that night, fucked me hard despite my injuries, and somehow saved me from dying that night. Why was she so broken? What could be the reason she had become a scaredy cat all of a sudden?

"You become scared when you have something to lose, Josh." Max announced in my mind. "She must be protecting something or someone."

Even though... She could choose to open up to me and ask for help instead of wallowing in fear. My determination to know more about my mysterious woman became stronger. Regardless of any circumstance, I was determined to get to the root of her problems and uproot the entire büllshit...

"Come with me, Rose. I don't bite unless you ask me."

I voiced and pulled her away from her bedroom door after I closed the door.

"Where are we going?"

She questioned and I was tempted to tell her, "You will see." Just to remind her of yesterday but I stopped myself and said this instead, "To get you into your training gear, Girlfriend." Rose hissed and mumbled under her breath while I chuckled contentedly, walking through the corridors of my home with my girlfriend.
