The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate -
Chapter 21
ROSE'S POV
This has to be a dream.
But why on earth would I be having such a dream?
I heaved, hoping to let out my frustrations but his words which were the cause of my frustrations stuck with me. They have been ringing in my head over and over for the last few hours... Even through the night. "Ahhhh...."
I screamed into the soft pillow which I have held through the hours of the night. I was in the room Alpha King Josh showed me to yesterday after he announced his ridiculous options. I have been in the room since noon yesterday. The fear of running into him or anyone else kept me within the walls of the beautiful room he called mine.
The walls were painted in a dark shade of purple and small circles were made on the wall with paint. The bed was well laid with white sheets and a duvet. Nothing in this room reminded me of the shabby room I had in Alpha Richard's home.
The room had a pleasant smell and I would have been comfortable if I hadn't been thinking about the dark-eyed Alpha King.
Alpha King Josh had thrown me into a maze and I spent all night trying to figure out my life and also find a way out of the maze.
"Don't blame him for the restless night you had, Rose." Cali supported the Alpha King, making me roll my eyes.
Of course, she stood up for him. My wolf beast has been doing that even though we had both initially agreed that I should stay far away from the Alpha King.
"He said he will be dating me. That's absurd, Cali and you know it."
I gritted, hugging the pillow.
My wolf beast snorted, "I heard him when he said that, and even if I didn't, you have been repeating the same words in your head since he left yesterday. How can I not know?"
"I can't believe you." I let out my confusion. "If I didn't know better, I would think you are happy that he spew those nonsense words yesterday-"
Cali interjected, "Yes! I am so happy, Rose. Why not? You and I know you have never experienced this before. No one dated you. Alpha Richard just appeared out of the blue to claim your hand and we both know where that has led us."
My wolf beast was right. And to be honest, the idea of dating someone, especially an Alpha King that I have banged didn't sound bad.
I loved it, in fact.
However, I was scared of what would happen if I stayed in this pack and with the Alpha King.
"Let's experience this peacefully, Rose. Even if you do this and break the blood oath, you will die happy." Cali chimed. "Dobt you want to die with a sense of fulfillment? What happened to the rose that left her mate's home in search of a capable man? What happened to the Rose that rode an injured stranger to pleasure?"
Cali added, taunting me, "Has she become a prude or has Alpha Richard finally tamed you?"
"That's not the case, Cali." I replied, "You know I detest that bastard?"
My wolf beast didn't respond immediately. I didn't know why but she took her time before speaking again.
"What if-"
However, before Cali could share her thoughts with me through the mind link, I heard a loud rap on the bedroom door. It happened so fast. I didn't sense or hear anyone approaching before the loud bang.
I assumed it was because I was lost in thought. Slowly, I jumped off the comfy bed and stepped towards the door. "Who is there?"
My hand froze on the doorknob when I realized that the person on the other side of the door might be the same man that stole my sleep by announcing and calling me his girlfriend.
"If you really wanted to avoid him, you would have tried to escape during the night, Rose."
Cali teased me yet I didn't open the door.
"Who are you?"
I asked again yet there was no response and neither could my nostrils pick up any scent. It's either the person on the other side was hiring his or her scent or no one was there... But I was certain I heard a knock.
"Just open the door, scaredy cat." Cali urged me, telling me that she couldn't perceive anyone too. Eventually, I opened the door. To my surprise, there was no one there.
"Is the Alpha King playing tricks on me?"
I gritted through the mind link between Cali and me but she didn't take my emotions seriously. I was ready to slam the door loudly but my eyes shifted to the marble floor of the corridor. Shockingly, I saw an envelope lying there. Perhaps I would have overlooked it if my name wasn't boldly written on the envelope.
I rolled my eyes, presuming that Alpha King Josh was onto something silly. He already said he wouldn't let me escape and I understood that he was trying to date me but what was this? So early in the morning? Grow up, Alpha King Josh...
Despite my sentiments, I picked up the envelope and closed my door. I didn't bother to move back to the bed. I stood by the door and tore the envelope open and pulled out the paper within it.
It was a letter addressed to me. I read it with interest.
"I heard you tried to escape, Rose...."
The letter started like that. I snorted and mumbled, "I thought we moved past that already."
I continued reading the letter;
"I thought we agreed to be honest this time? Why will you try to leave the Royal pack when I sent you there to be a spy, Rose? Don't test me."
My eyes widened and my hands began to tremble when reality slammed into me like a fast moving truck.
The letter wasn't from Alpha King Josh. In fact, this letter wasn't written for some silly games like ve stupidly assumed.
It was from Richard.
He has found me... Alive...
"Relax, Rose." Cali whispered to me even though she was also panicking, "Continue reading."
I wanted to throw the note away and hide from the world but I kept reading still.
"I have eyes on you even though I am not there, Rose. I am closer than you think and it will be in your best interest to convince the Alpha King that he should attack my pack. Don't get too comfy there because I will be coming to see you soon. You know how much I hate writing letters. Make sure he gets you a cell phone and text me with your number as soon as possible."
Alpha Richard remained his shameless self. He didn't think it was proper for me to have a cell phone when I was in his home but after I left, he thought I should have another man get me one.
I continued reading the letter, "My eyes are on you. Get the job done without getting caught. Remember the oath we took and never forget that your pack's future is in my hands."
The letter ended with that. I hissed and squeezed the paper in my hand as I balled my fists.
I was still trying to contain the mixture of emotions that stacked my mind after reading the shitty letter from my shitty mate when another knock came on the door.
I jumped away from the door in fear. I could have sworn I had jumped out of my skin when I heard the knocking sound.
"Good morning."
A familiar masculine voice came after another knock. I began to regulate my hyper breathe after I confirmed that the person at the door wasn't Alpha Richard... However, what if the person at the door is one of the eyes Alpha Richard claimed to have around me? "It's Alpha King Josh's Beta, Rose. Calm down, please."
Cali tried to assure me but how would I ever be sure that this so-called Beta wasn't a traitor?
The Beta's voice rang again, "Are you alright in there? Do you need help?"
Yes, I needed help.
I wished I could cry to someone and be saved but I quickly and quietly hid the letter I received from Alpha Richard under the bed-in between the bed frame and the mattress.
"I will be coming in in a minute if you do not respond or open-"
I pulled the door open. A fake smile stretched my face as I said, "Hello. Good morning."
The Beta scanned my body for some minutes the moment I opened the door before he whispered, "For a second, I thought you had escaped. You would have put me in so much trouble."
"I am sorry. I was-"
Of course, I was about to tell a lie but the Beta waved me off, saying, "You don't have to apologize." He grinned. "I believe we haven't properly met. I am Adam, Beta to the Alpha King Of the Northern Territory."
He stretched his hand to me and I took it in mine, shaking him.
"Nice knowing you, Beta Adam. I am Rose."
I stated simply. From Beta Adam's expression, it was obvious that he expected more from me but there was no one I was introducing myself as Alpha Richard's mate.
"You are that woman, aren't you?"
Beta Adam questioned me after he realized that I won't be giving out more information about myself.
My eyes furrowed. "What woman?"
Beta Adam opened his mouth to speak but a strong husky voice beat him to it, "What the fuck are you doing here... With her?"
His dark eyes found mine immediately and I nearly forgot my troubles until I remembered that he was one of the troubles in my sad life.
"My King."
Beta Adam stuttered, avoiding eye contact with the Alpha King.
"I asked, what are you doing here with her?"
Alpha King Josh repeated possessively.
