Raven’s POV

Once Rose awoke in my mind, she wasted no time trying to heal my broken spine. The only problem is that it is taking longer than my father and mates would like.

Each day all five of them come to the hospital demanding to know what the doctor is doing to further my healing. But each day, they are told the same thing. They are told my wolf needs time to heal my spine, but the doctor assures them I will be back up on my feet in no time.

Today feels different. Visiting hours start at 9:00 AM. I watch the clock on my wall with a smile on my face. As soon as it hits nine, the five of them will come bounding into the room. I count down the seconds, “Three, two, one…”

Turning my attention to my doorway, I wait for them to come in the door, but nothing happens. Every day for the past week, they have not missed a day. I cannot help but stare at the clock and wait.

The minutes tick by slowly; before I realize it, I have been looking at the clock for over an hour. Tears fill my eyes as I continue to wait.

Suddenly, a ball of blonde curls comes bouncing into my room. I quickly wipe the tears from my eyes and plaster a fake smile on my lips.

“Ashley,” I try to hide the sadness in my voice. “What are you doing here?”

“Can’t an aunt come to visit her favorite niece?” Ashley says, but there is an odd tone to her voice. It sounds as if she is trying to hide something from me.

I roll my eyes and g***n. “Where are my boys?” I ask, referring to my fathers and my mates. “They never miss visiting hours.”

Ashley glances over her shoulder. “Umm,” she mumbles. “Have they not been here yet today?”

“Do you see them?” I snap at her. “What is going on? What are you hiding from me?”

“Nothing,” Ashley squeaks.

I shake my head. “Come on,” I say as I struggle to swing my legs over the edge of the hospital bed. “You are taking me to wherever they told you to keep me away from.”

“No can do,” Ashley says with a high-pitched laugh. “You have physical therapy in ten minutes.”

Dangling my feet off the bed’s edge, I wiggle my toes gingerly. “Look,” I say. “I can wiggle my toes. Therapy is done.”

“I don’t think so, Luna Queen,” Ashley laughs as she gets a wheelchair from the hall. “You can’t miss therapy.”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I grumble, “I refuse to move until you tell me what is happening.”

Ashley chews nervously on her bottom l*p. They couldn’t have sent a worse liar to cover for them. Ashley has never been able to keep things from me.

“Promise you won’t be mad at me?” She asks.

“Promise,” I growl.

“Today is Elise’s execution day,” Ashley says quietly.

“But there wasn’t a trial,” I say in confusion.

“There was a trial,” Ashley says quietly. “The elders convicted her almost immediately.”

“But I wasn’t there!” I cry out. “I am the Luna Queen. How could they hold the trial without me?”

“It was your fathers’ idea,” Ashley replies softly. “They thought that you had been through enough already…”

“They can’t kill her yet,” I say, trying to get to my feet. “What if she knows more? I need to look through more of her memories. I need to know who the scarred woman is.”

“They haven’t told you?” Ashley asks in a whisper.

“They haven’t told me what?” I demand to know.

“It isn’t my place to tell you,” Ashley shakes her head. “Ace, Bryce, and Chris should really be the ones to tell you.”

I firmly plant my feet on the floor and try to take a step forward. I am determined to go through Elise’s memories one last time before her demise. I shuffle one foot before the other, and my knees buckle. I tumble to the ground, landing on my hands and knees. Ashley kneels by my side, trying to help me to my feet.

“Don’t touch me,” I growl.

Ashley backs up and holds her hands in the air. “I am just trying to help you,” she says with a whimper.

“I don’t need your help,” I growl again. “I don’t need anyone to keep coddling me. I am the f*****g Luna Queen, and people need to start treating me as such.”

A nurse rushes into the room, and I see the nurse call button in Ashley’s hand. A feeling of betrayal washes over me, and I glare at Ashley. The nurse gasps when she sees me stuck on the floor and immediately tries to help me up.

Without thinking, I throw my Luna Aura over the room. “I said, no one touches me,” I snarl, and both women back away from me, baring their necks to me in submission.

The nurse is whimpering as she tries to fight against my command. She is desperate to help me up from the floor.

‘Rose,’ I call inward. ‘Can you help me up?’

Rose is panting inside my mind as she tries to help me escape the predicament that I have gotten myself into. Joining all of our energy together, Rose manages to give me enough strength to get to my feet.

Gripping the side of the hospital bed, I use my upper body to help me get to my feet. I am still wobbly, but I am standing unassisted. I am glaring at Ashley and the nurse, refusing to let my Luna Aura fade from the room.

‘We need to sit down,’ Rose pants heavily in my mind. ‘I am unsure how long I can keep you standing.’

Leaning back on the hospital bed, I let my Luna Aura fade from the room. Ashley is staring at me with tears in her eyes, but the nurse has already rushed to my side and is trying to take my vitals. I sit unhappily still while the nurse runs around me, poking and prodding at me.

Ashley’s look of shock has turned into a glare, and I know she is holding back from saying what is truly on her mind. The nurse quickly finishes up my vitals and excuses herself from the room.

The tension between Ashley and me is thick. I know she is angry because I used my aura on her, but I don’t give a damn. She, my fathers, my mates, and the elder council have all betrayed me. I should have been a part of that trial. I should have been allowed to flip through Elise’s mind. Those things were stolen from me.

“Go on,” I snarl. “Say your peace and then leave.”

Ashley lets out a huff of frustration. “We are all just trying to protect you,” she begins. “Why can’t you see that?”

“You are trying to protect me by keeping me in the dark,” I shout at her. “That is not protecting me. It is disabling me from being able to do my job.”

Ashley doesn’t have time to respond before my fathers and my mates storm into the hospital room. They all look pissed, and I know that Ashley must have mind linked them and told them what was happening. Little do they know, I am no longer playing nice.
