Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 211
Adam exited Joseph's ward and went back to Paul's. Lucas and Paul were sitting on the couch chatting happily.
"Mr. Carter, we're friends now. If you ever need my help, I will do my best."
"I appreciate it, Paul. We should exchange numbers now. When you get discharged from the hospital, I'll host a dinner for you." "Mr. Carter, how could I let you do it? Lisle is my town, and you've only just arrived, so it's only right that I should be the host."
"I disagree. Since I'm new in town, all the more reason I should be the one to entertain you as host."
"Mr. Carter..."
"Paul..."
Adam stared at the two in disbelief. He had been gone for a while now, but they were still going at it. Weren't they nauseous from the perfunctory social niceties?
Adam was annoyed, he was losing patience now. "Are you done yet?"
Lucas instantly shook his head and replied, "I really like Paul. I could talk to him forever."
Paul was pleasantly surprised. "Mr. Carter, you are too kind. It is my honor to meet you."
Adam was dumbfounded yet again. Could you shut up already?
"If you're done here, then please leave. Don't you have a company to manage?" Adam said in annoyance.
However, Lucas did not feel like leaving yet. He stood up and said reluctantly, "Paul, I'm sorry I have to leave. We can catch up some other time."
Paul got up and said, "That's right. We can do this some other time."
Lucas walked to the door reluctantly. Realizing Adam was not behind him, he turned to ask, "Aren't we leaving?"
Adam waved his hand and said, "I want to speak to Paul. Don't bother waiting for me."
Lucas was thoroughly perplexed now. Why does Rabbit want to talk to Paul in private? Perhaps I could gather more clues about him from their conversation. "It's fine. I can wait. After all, we are all friends." Lucas turned and walked back.
Adam was taken aback, apparently not expecting the reply. He frowned and said, "Can't you tell I am deliberately telling you to leave so that I can talk in private?" Lucas had been walking back into the room, and his leg froze in midair. He said awkwardly, "Do you have to be so blunt?"
"Just leave!" Adam was quickly losing patience. For some reason, the sight of Lucas made him want to blow up.
Lucas sighed powerlessly. He said sadly, "You've changed."
Paul was puzzled at those words. Is there some history between Drake the Dragon and Lucas?
Adam grabbed an apple, hurling it at Lucas as he said in annoyance, "Leave now. Otherwise, I will personally make sure you are bedridden for a month."
Lucas grabbed the apple, gritted his teeth, and took a bite before turning on his heels and leaving in a huff.
When he was finally gone, Adam said solemnly, "Do you know anything about the local bosses in the cities around Lisle?"
Paul was momentarily taken aback before saying in shock, "Boss, are you planning to..."
Adam nodded and said deeply, "Enrico will not stay in power for long. I plan on making some changes in Alameda County, but to avoid causing chaos, I plan on taking out every single one of his accomplices first and then have Black Snake Brigade take over everything."
Paul's eyes lit up. Once Adam proceeded with his plans, he would stand to gain more power.
Even if Enrico were to be deposed, Alameda County would not go into chaos. Black Snake Brigade would back a new underground leader, but who would they choose?
For a moment, a lot of thoughts crossed Paul's mind. He secretly felt relieved that he had picked the right side.
"I do know a little about them. There are four cities around Lisle, of which the capital is one. You already know what goes on there, so I shall not go into detail. The three remaining cities are Belmar, Earlston, and Whittingham.
"Sebastian Ramos is Belmar's mob boss. He's an aggressive man and vicious in nature; people also call him Hades.
"Gabriel Sanchez runs Earlston. He's young and capable. He's made a name for himself thanks to his martial arts. He's earned the moniker Tank.
"Whittingham's local boss Elias Myers. He tends to be a fence-sitter, but he's a very cunning and ruthless man. Since he often resorts to strategy, people call him Wily Fox. Before he rose to power, he used to be a strategist for his predecessor." Adam was quiet for a few seconds, then asked, "How are you feeling? Would you be able to invite them over to Lisle?"
Paul nodded before shaking his head. "I'm good. I can use a wheelchair. However, even if I invite them over, they might not come. Also, they might just tell Enrico about your plans to see them."
Adam had already factored in these outcomes. He did not care that Enrico would come to learn of his plans. To hide his intentions when it came to this was always going to be impossible. "What do you suggest?"
Paul narrowed his eyes and said, "We should speak to them in person. This way, they won't have a chance to communicate with Enrico. But we need to come up with a good strategy. After all, no one dares to oppose El Coco." Adam waved his hand. "That's fine. I'll get Black Dragon and his men to go with you. If it doesn't work out, I can go personally."
Paul felt glad that Adam had made plans. He said earnestly, "Boss, when should I start?"
Adam said mildly, "As soon as possible."
Paul replied promptly, "Okay then. I'll get myself discharged now."
Adam could not help asking, "Are you sure you're up for it?"
Paul patted his chest and laughed. "I'm fine."
Adam did not continue probing. He proceeded to fish out his phone and call Black Dragon.
After making the arrangements, Adam left the hospital.
When he got back to the office, Katie was done with her meeting, so Adam went straight into her office.
However, Adam was stunned to see the guest in her office. "Mom, what are you doing here?"
As she ate the fruit on the table, Gemma explained, "It's my father's eightieth birthday in a couple of days, so I'm taking Katie out to prepare some gifts."
Adam was quite surprised. Katie never mentioned her mother's side of the family previously, so he knew very little about them.
Since it was her grandfather's birthday in a couple of days, it was only right to prepare some gifts.
"Mom, Katie is busy. Why don't you let me handle it? What does he like?" Adam asked.
Gemma frowned and said, "Do you want to help? Are you sure you can handle it? My father doesn't like us, so I don't want to worsen the relationship." Katie rolled her eyes at her mother. "Mom, why can't you trust Adam? Has he ever disappointed you before?"
After calming down, Gemma had to agree Katie was right. Adam had always been a man of his word.
"Fine. Dad likes antiques and art. He also likes to drink wine."
Adam nodded. "What about the other relatives? I've never visited the family ever since I came back, so I'd like to prepare gifts for everyone in the family." Gemma pondered for a few moments before she sighed and said, "Don't bother buying gifts for the rest of the family. I doubt they'll accept them even if you try." Adam raised his brow slightly. This had given him an inkling of the family dynamics. From the looks of it, Katie's grandfather did not favor Gemma. However, now that he was back, he was determined to settle the problem for his mother-in-law, so this would soon become a thing of the past. "Mom, don't worry, I won't embarrass either of you."
