Return of the Prodigy Chapter 210

Adam left Hartley Group and went to the hospital as Katie spoke to the new members of the Chamber of Commerce at the office.

Lucas was lying on the hospital bed in the ward.

Adam asked, "Are you all right?"

"I'll survive," Lucas replied angrily,

Adam smiled as he walked up to sit by the bed.

After a few moments, Lucas could no longer suppress his curiosity. He asked, puzzled, "Wasn't I at the bar? How did I end up driving into the river? I remember sitting in the car before passing out." Adam did not bother explaining that someone had planned to murder him. He said casually, "You said it yourself, you'd lost consciousness... You might have driven your car into the river by accident." Lucas frowned as he asked quizzically, "Is that so? Why do I have zero impression of it happening?"

Lucas spent a few moments trying to recall before giving up resignedly. He nodded and said, "Fine. Perhaps you're right. I nearly died back there. In the process, I have learned something important." "What did you learn?" Adam asked.

Lucas said with a serious look on his face, "Even men have to take good care of themselves, especially the rich handsome ones like me."

Adam was rendered speechless.

If you'd really learned anything, you'd realize you had been stupid enough to let a woman drug you. Should I slap you in the face with the truth so you remember this lesson?

Adam could not be bothered chatting with an idiot, so he asked, "Do you have any intel about the Moodys and the Banks?"

"I've only been investigating for a couple of days, so I don't have an answer for you yet," Lucas said solemnly. "You're an uncivilized man, so you won't get it. You don't understand how complicated things are in big families. Do you think you can win by smacking them a few times?"

Adam was annoyed. Even though what Lucas said made complete sense, he did not appreciate the sarcastic tone.

"Is the doctor done examining you? If you are well enough, then get up. I'm going to introduce you to some people," said Adam.

Lucas pulled off the blanket and got off the bed. "Who are we meeting?"

"Just some big names in the local underworld," Adam said casually.

Lucas was caught by surprise. He opened his eyes wide in astonishment and cried out, "Are you talking about Paul Booker?"

Adam looked at Lucas quizzically. He wondered how Lucas knew about Paul, but as it happened, Lucas was right, it was Paul that Adam wanted to introduce him to. This way, they could communicate and handle minor affairs on their own without bothering him. "Do you know the guy?" asked Adam, puzzled.

Lucas shook his head and replied, "No, I don't. I've just heard his name. Before I got thrown into the river, I heard about him at the bar. Shortly after, the woman came over and drugged me. Damn it! I know I'm hot, but she didn't have to do this." Adam was quiet as he eyed the man before him. Lucas' mind certainly works in strange ways.

He did not know what to say, so he simply continued, "Since you've already heard of him, then hurry up. He's also staying at this hospital."

Lucas was dumbfounded. He automatically asked, "Are you for real? Hang on. Why would you be friends with him? From the looks of it, you must have done well for yourself in these years."

Adam glared at him and said, "Are you going or not? He doesn't know my true identity, so don't get my name wrong."

Lucas rolled his eyes cockily and retorted, "I'm a civilized and educated man, okay? Do I look stupid?"

Adam responded by kicking Lucas out the door. He was unsure if Lucas was considered a smart man, but he was undoubtedly annoying!

Lucas clutched his butt as he looked at Adam indignantly. Before long, the two of them arrived outside Paul's hospital ward.

Paul had spent some time recuperating, so he was able to get off the bed and move a little.

After walking through the door, they saw Paul exercising slowly with the help of the couch. His forehead was covered in sweat and even his hospital gown was soaking wet. "Very good, Paul. Recovering well, I see," said Adam mildly.

Lucas gaped in astonishment.

Why does he sound so high and mighty talking to Paul?

Also, he is on a first-name basis with the local mob boss. It sounds as though he is speaking to an underling.

For God's sake Adam, you aren't the man you used to be! Can you stop talking this way? You might get beaten up one day!

Lucas was on pins and needles. After all these years, Adam had gotten even cockier than before. He privately decided to say a few nice things on Adam's behalf. However, before he knew it, Paul immediately dropped to his knees when he saw Adam.

"Thank you, Boss."

Lucas was gobsmacked, unable to make head or tail of the scene before him.

Did he have to kneel? What the hell was going on?! Is he not the local mob boss? Shouldn't everyone hold him in reverence?

"Rise. Has Black Dragon spoken to you yet?" Adam said mildly.

Paul supported himself with the couch and stood up. He said excitedly, "Yes, he has. Black Dragon said Mario was thrown into jail and is serving a life sentence!"

Adam nodded. Mario had made the mistake of trying to kill him repeatedly. This crime alone was enough to get El Coco's son executed. Since Adam did not want Enrico to overreact, he had made arrangements and just awarded him a life sentence. Enrico was right about one thing. The Black Snake Brigade might be powerful, but they lacked the ability to absolutely control the local underworld in just a day.

If Adam wanted to do it, he had to issue a direct order and summon the entire Black Snake Brigade to Alameda County.

However, it was completely unnecessary and too much. There were countless other ways for him to take out Enrico.

"Someone I know happens to be in the hospital, so I brought him over for an introduction. Why don't you get to know each other? From now on, we're allies." Adam stepped aside since Lucas was standing behind him.

"Huh?" Lucas quickly snapped out of his thoughts. He extended his hand and said, "I'm Lucas Carter from Dragon Conglomerate. It's a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Booker."

Paul was stunned. Since Adam was personally introducing the man, he reckoned the two must be very close. He waved his hand and said humbly, "The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Carter."

Lucas felt puzzled.

Isn't he the biggest local mob boss? From the looks of it, he seems like a nice guy and does not have the typical airs of a mob boss. I wouldn't mind being friends with the guy.

"You're too kind Mr. Booker. I'm really honored to meet you."

"You can skip the formalities and just call me by my first name."

"How could I? It would be rude of me."

"Of course, you can. Be my guest."

The two continued chatting courteously until Adam started to feel awkward.

"You guys continue chatting. I'm going to check on Joseph." Adam shook his head and went over to Joseph's hospital ward.

Joseph was recovering from leg injuries, so even though he had been recuperating in the hospital for a very long time, it was impossible for him to recover fully in the short term. For now, he still had to move around in a wheelchair. When Adam got to the hospital ward, he was caught by surprise.

Joseph and Bianca were packing up.

Adam frowned and asked, "Are you planning to leave?"

Joseph raised his head and looked at Adam. He replied with a solemn look on his face, "Yeah. Bianca isn't doing well. She has gotten a lot weaker than before."

Adam turned to glance at Bianca. She was wearing a thick down jacket and coughing incessantly.

Adam sighed. He nodded and said, "Fine. If Sobbing Ghost refuses to treat her, give him my number."

Joseph paused and looked at Adam quizzically.

Adam reminded him. "Don't tell anyone about this, especially Fannie!"

Joseph was even more puzzled now, but in the end, he simply nodded in assent.

Adam sighed inwardly. He was on the path to rebuilding the family. If things did not work out for Joseph, he could get Sobbing Ghost to come straight to Lisle. After all, he could perform medical miracles, so he could come in handy! However, he was not sure of how the old man felt about the Drake family after all these years.

Will he still be willing to work for us?
