Chapter 99

Gabi’s POV

We just got back to the B***d Rose pack. Tanner told me on the way home about the rogue that had been coming onto the packlands working for Taylor but did it because he needed the money for his family. That was what he had told Beta Peter, each time he was questioned.

Dana was sticking to her story of me having put a spell on Tanner as there was no way that I could be his mate. She was delusional, and Tanner told me that I could decide what to do with her. He was good with whatever I decided to do.

I have put some thought into it, and I think that I will speak to the rogue first. I believed what he was saying and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I understand how hard it is when you are broke. We headed down to the cells right off the bat when we got there. We both go to his cell, and he gets up from the bed on the far wall and approaches the cell bars with caution, as he doesn’t know me, but Tanner was the one who caught him, and he knows who he is.

“If you let me go, I promise you I will never come back. Please let me go. I have been gone three days now and I know my wife will be frantic, she cannot leave our children to go get food. I need to go back home. I am sorry for coming onto your packlands.

I was told it was easy in and easy out, and I didn’t cause any damage. I just needed money for my family”, the rogue told us.

“What is your name? Why do you not have a pack?” I asked him.

“Devon, we did have a pack, Shadow Ridge, but our Alpha went a little crazy when he lost his Luna and started sleeping with the Omegas. Originally, it was the unmated ones who accepted to sleep with him. But then he started cornering my wife and making advances.

He wouldn’t stop. So, we ran away in the early morning hours. Please don’t send us back there, he will kill me and our pups, and then start making my mate sleep with him”, Devon told us.

“I will not send you back, but I need to verify this with your wife. I will not hurt her, but if she tells me the same story, we will welcome your whole family into B***d Rose. I just want to speak to her first”, I told him. I saw Devon looking at me for a few minutes, as if trying to determine if he could trust me.

Tanner didn’t even flinch when I told him that I would welcome his family.

We just took in 100 people. All families needing some help. We can make room for one more. I wanted to actually build small homes like we had at Ever Green, here on his land for families to live in.

I already had made plans in my head for this, and even made a small drawing of where I wanted them built before I was taken, I just hadn’t told Tanner my plans yet.

“We are living in an abandoned shack we found about 4 miles off your property, to the north of here. Please do not hurt my family. They are innocent in all of this.

I was approached in town while I was trying to get a job, and it was easy money, or so I thought. I didn’t do any damage like she wanted me to do. I was just trying to take care of my mate and pups”, Devon told me.

“Devon, I have no cause to hurt anyone. As I told you, if your mate tells us the same thing, you will live here as a member of our pack. Do not worry.

We will go there now and be back soon. I will not harm them in any way”, I told him, and Tanner and I went back out to the front of the packhouse to leave and go check out the shack.

We passed Alan, Hudson, Jameson, and Gavin on the way back out and they asked where we were going. The guys were bringing their duffle bags in now that they had been assigned rooms. We told them, and they came with us in their own vehicle just as a backup, in case Devon had lied, but I don’t think he did.

We found the shack, as Tanner knew where it was when Devon told us where they were staying. It was an old hunter’s shack on land that belonged to a family who had moved away, and he was considering making them an offer for their 200 acres.

I asked them to let me approach her, as she would probably be scared with so many large men at her door and having their pups to protect. Tanner stood on the side of the shack and Alan on the other side to get to me quickly in case of any problems, and Hudson stood on the other side of a tree. He was armed, as he usually was just in case of trouble.

I knocked lightly on the door and then took a few steps back so she wouldn’t feel crowded or threatened by me when she answered. I had to knock a second time and step back again and call out that I knew where Devon was and that he had told me where she was.

I saw the door open a little and a she-wolf stood there looking at me with frightened eyes. I saw two small pups behind her, one on each leg and putting their little arms around the leg they were close to, as if they were scared as well.

I smiled gently at her and turned a little so she would see that I was pregnant and not here to fight her or hurt her. She seemed to relax a little and I explained whol was and that I just needed to ask her a question or two. She nodded and looked at me, waiting for me to ask the questions.

“How long have you been gone from your pack?” I asked her.

“Almost three months. We had to leave as the Alpha kept trying to sleep with me. He kept assigning me tasks away from others so he could catch me by myself. We were scared, so we left. Please do not send us back there. He would kill Devon, and he threatened him when Devon tried to protect me the last time”, she told me.

What is your name?” I asked her.

“My name is Sarah. We have a daughter, Emily, who is three years old. We have a son, Hayden, who is 2 years old”, Sarah told me.

“Last question for right now, I promise. What did you and Devon do in your old pack?” I asked her.

“I was an Omega, I could cook, clean, garden, repair, and make new clothes, I could basically do anything that needed to be done. Devon was a warrior, and a good one. He is strong and smart.

Can you please take us to him now? I have been worried about him for days. I knew he was alive and scared because I could feel it through our link. But I didn’t know where he was, and I couldn’t leave the kids to go hunt for food”, Sarah said with tears in her eyes.

“We will take you to him right now. Go ahead and pack up what you need to and we will take it with us. You will live on our packlands now.

We will make you members of the B***d Rose pack. You will all be safe with us. Do not be afraid, no one will hurt you, but there are men here to help you bring your bags to the car. Just pack it up and they will carry it for you”, I told Sarah.

“We don’t really have anything here, we left with just the clothes we had. The children don’t have any toys or books. We just left the pack light, as we just needed to leave. Let me just grab our clothes” Sarah said to me.

I asked Alan to go ahead and to their SUV, So Sarah wouldn’t be frightened, and to just leave Gavin behind with us, as he was the most nonthreatening of the group, and to wait for Gavin as he would ride back with them.

We would take Sarah and the babies with us, as she already knew me and would probably be most comfortable with me in our SUV. The guys headed back to their SUV and Gavin came forward to help her with her bag.

She was right, there was only one duffle bag, and they were ready to go. I glanced around the shack after she exited with the kids. It was a shack, with no real furniture, just some dirty blankets on the floor.

We will take care of them at B***d Rose. As we walked back to the SUV, Sarah was quiet and nervous, which made the kids nervous. They kept looking at Tanner and I asked her if it was OK for Tanner to carry one of the pups for her.

She thought about it for a minute and then allowed him to carry the little girl, who was quite content to allow Tanner to carry her. He gave her a couple of smiles and I could tell she thought he was great by the time we reached the SUV. She smiled back at him, with a big smile, like he was her new best friend.

I could tell that Tanner now has the newest and youngest member of his fan club, and that thought made me smile. Gavin loaded their bag into the back of our SUV and then got into the other SUV.

Sarah got in the backseat and held her son in her lap while Tanner buckled Emily up behind his seat.

It is silent in the SUV, as we head back to the B***d Rose pack. I know that Sarah is nervous as she doesn’t know us, but the love she has for Devon lets her make the hard choice of trusting us in this situation.

Emily is the only one making any noise in the SUV as she is singing a children’s song and swinging her little legs and seems perfectly happy to be coming with us. I smiled back at her and sang with her, and she grinned at me with a big smile too.

I guess it isn’t just Tanner with a new fan. I am glad that we have a wonderful new family at B***d Rose. I think that they will be very happy here with us.
