Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 63 Counterattack Against the Jerk
"Harry, what's going on with Mom? Is this how she looks coming back from a trip? Something seems off."
As soon as Galatea entered the house, she was drenched from head to toe. She explained how it had started raining at the airport, and she hadn't brought an umbrella. Worst of all, she'd lost her bag and even the taxi fare had to be paid by Mia, who had gone downstairs.
Plus, she looked extremely tired. Normally, if she got wet, she would definitely take a shower, but this time, she just wiped herself off with a towel and went to bed.
It didn't look at all like she had just returned from a trip!
Harry knew that Galatea had just been discharged from the hospital. Although the state one is in after being discharged is certainly different from returning from a trip, this was way too miserable! Where was Alaric? Hadn't he been staying at the hospital with her?
How could he let her come home by herself in the rain on the day of her discharge?
Unforgivable jerk!
Harry was already angry with Alaric after overhearing their conversation last time, and now he was even angrier. To think Alaric would treat his mother like this!
With that thought, Harry grabbed his phone, intending to call Caspian. He wanted to give Alaric a piece of his mind through Caspian. But just as he dialed the number, he immediately hung up.
No, he couldn't do it. The saying went that one should not bite the hand that feeds. He had just asked Caspian for his password and spent his money. He didn't have the nerve to lash out at him now! "Harry, did you hear what I said?" Elisa approached him, puzzled. "What are you doing? Why do you pick up the phone to make a call and then change your mind?"
"What do you think I'm doing?" Harry felt utterly defeated. "Elisa Storm, I've lost all my dignity because of you!"
"What?" Elisa was completely bemused. "How did we get to this extreme? I don't understand."
"With your brain, what could you understand?" Harry chided her. "Stop jumping to conclusions. Traveling around can be exhausting. Let mom rest without disturbance." After finishing his words, Harry locked himself in the bathroom, staring at Caspian's number on his phone for a long time before finally making the call.
"Hello, Harry." Caspian had always been rather aloof, but ever since he found out his dad had done something wrong, his attitude toward Harry had taken on a submissive edge.
"Caspian, are you thinking we should switch back?" Harry asked.
What?
Caspian's eyes lit up immediately, and he said eagerly, "Of course I do, why? Are you ready to switch?"
Hearing Caspian's excited tone made Harry feel a bit jealous. How come this quiet, cold guy was so adored by his mom and by Elisa?
"Don't get too happy just yet. I've decided we'll switch places again, but this time for just a few days."
If he couldn't maintain his dignity in complaining to Caspian, then he would become Caspian once more, be the son of Alaric, torment him right by his side, and get revenge for his mom! "Just for a few days?" Caspian sounded truly disappointed.
"You should be grateful for these few days. What more do you want? I'm trading my mom and Elisa for your deadbeat dad. I'm getting the short end of the stick here," Harry retorted. "Alright, just a few days. When do we switch? Right now?"
The two boys agreed on a place to swap lives, and Caspian couldn't have been happier. He had been preoccupied with the thought of his parents getting their marriage license.
But the prospect of seeing his mom soon made him forget all about calling his dad. He could just ask his mom directly when he saw her.
After the call with Caspian, Harry sneaked into Galatea's room. She was still asleep.
She had been getting so upset lately that it was taking a toll on her body. Plus, she caught a chill from the rain and felt completely drained when she got home, just wanting to catch some sleep.
"Mom, I'll be away for a few days, but I'll be back after I've settled the score for you," Harry whispered, then left the room.
"Mia, Elisa, the rain has stopped. A friend invited me out to play ping pong, so I'm heading out," Harry announced.
"Why are you going out so late again?" came the questioning voice.
"Because I love sports," Harry replied with a quick explanation before heading out the door.
Outside, he was surprised to find Alaric's car parked downstairs by his house. Huh? Harry was taken aback.
What was this about? After all the chaos he caused for his mom, he had the nerve to show up here pretending to be the devoted lover.
Jerk! Wait and see how I deal with you later!
To avoid being noticed, Harry took a roundabout way out of the building. Meanwhile, Caspian was still over at Cormac's place. The last time he swapped identities with Harry it had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, but this time he was prepared.
So Caspian packed up all the toys Cormac had bought for him these past few days. Seeing this, Cormac asked, "Caspian, what are you doing?"
"Cormac, my dad is coming home tonight, and I need to head back," Caspian replied.
"Is Galatea discharged from the hospital?"
"Yes," Caspian nodded.
"Alright, then I'll drive you home."
"There's no need, Cormac. I already called my dad's driver, and he's coming to pick me up. I have to go!" Caspian couldn't wait any longer.
Cormac watched as Caspian took all his toys with him, puzzled by his actions.
He had bought so many toys to make him happy, but Caspian didn't even open them. Now, he was taking them all home? Cormac just couldn't figure it out and shook his head in confusion.
At the designated spot, Caspian and Harry quickly changed clothes and phones.
"Wait for my call. Whatever time I say we swap back, we swap back, got it?" Harry instructed firmly.
"I understand," Caspian agreed swiftly, even if it was just for a few days. After all, once they were legally recognized, they'd be able to be together every day.
The two exchanged recent updates and then set off their separate ways.
After parting with Caspian, Harry immediately called Alaric, who was still downstairs from Galatea's place and hadn't left.
He clutched his phone, fearing something might happen to Galatea's health. Every time the phone rang, he tensed up. But seeing the call was from Caspian eased his worry a bit. "Hello, Caspian."
"Dad, I've come back from Cormac's house. Where are you? I need to see you now," Harry said with resolve.
Did he want to ask about the marriage license with Galatea? Honestly, Alaric wasn't sure how to explain things to Caspian.
Alaric looked up at the apartment, guessing that it should be okay since it was so quiet at this hour. "Okay, I'll head back right now."
After hanging up the phone, Alaric took one last glance at the apartment before starting the car and driving away from Galatea's neighborhood.
Not long after Alaric left, Caspian arrived in a taxi carrying two big bags full of toys.
Entering the apartment and seeing Mia and Elisa felt incredibly familiar.
"Mia, Elisa, I'm back!" Caspian called out.
"That was quite quick," Elisa observed, glancing at the clock.
"Where's Mom?" Caspian asked eagerly, not seeing Galatea.
"Have you lost your mind? Your mom has been asleep since you left," Elisa responded.
Asleep already? Guess I'll have to ask Mom tomorrow if she really did get the certificate with Dad.
"Harry, what's that you're holding?" Elisa curiously eyed the two large bags in his hands.
