Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 64 Harry Furiously Berates Alaric
"When I stepped out earlier, I passed by a store packed with children's toys, and I picked some up for you."
The toys selected by Cormac were traditionally boys' toys, and Caspian was anxious about whether Elisa would like them.
"Toys for me?" Elisa gazed at the two brimming bags in amazement. "All of these are for me?"
"Yeah," Caspian said nervously. "But I don't know if you'll like them, so if you don't, just tell me what you do like, and I'll buy that for you next time." Elisa couldn't hear another word. She immediately grabbed the bags from him and started taking out the toys.
As she saw the toys, Elisa was so shocked she was nearly dumbstruck.
"Wow, this is a premium LEGO set! I saw one of these before worth thousands!" Elisa couldn't believe her eyes. "Do you like it?"
"Of course, I'm crazy about it! When have I ever played with such high-end toys?" Elisa felt unimaginably blessed.
After her happiness, she gave Caspian a bewildered look and then fiercely pinched his face, leaving Caspian utterly baffled.
"Harry, did you switch souls again? Did you change from being a frugal soul who loves to tease back to a doting big brother?"
Frugal and loving to tease? Was she talking about Harry? And he was the doting big brother?
"Elisa, do you like me more than him?" Caspian blurted out, then immediately caught himself, "I mean, do you like this soul, not that one?"
"Totally, who wouldn't love a generous and indulgent big brother?" Elisa pleaded, "Harry, keep a firm hold of this soul, don't switch back, please. I beg you, I don't want to be forced to work at such a young age." "Work?" Caspian was shocked. Harry had mentioned Elisa was going to work?!
"Yeah, you said it a few days ago. You mentioned that both of us need to get part-time jobs to make money. I literally wanted to cuss you out. If you want to work, just go by yourself. Why drag me into it? It's so wrong." "Yeah," Caspian agreed, nodding. "That is wrong, very wrong!"
At that moment, Harry sneezed heavily. Who was badmouthing him?
Then, hearing the sound of a car pulling into the yard, Harry quickly settled on the living room sofa, ready to confront Alaric with an air of authority.
As Alaric entered, he noticed Harry, with a cold expression, sitting on the sofa, looking at him with fiery anger in his eyes.
"Caspian, it's getting late. You should head to bed," Alaric said.
"I'm too upset to sleep," Harry replied, his voice tense with frustration. "I was so mad this afternoon I couldn't even eat. I feel like I'm about to explode." Alaric's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. Did Harry already know that he hadn't successfully married Galatea? But how could that be possible? "What's wrong?" Alaric played dumb, asking, "Who managed to get under Caspian's skin? Cormac? If it's him, then I'll deal with it tomorrow..."
"It's you!" Harry said directly.
It seemed Harry had figured it out. But how was Alaric supposed to explain? Tell him he had planned to marry Galatea but was rejected.
"Caspian, I promised to marry Galatea, but right now her health isn't good. We'll have to wait till she's fully recovered before we go ahead with it," Alaric lied, trying to stabilize Harry's mood.
"Are you even my real dad? Do you even listen to the main point?" Harry said deliberately, "I just told you I was so upset I didn't eat lunch. Doesn't that bother you? Now I'm not only upset, but I'm so hungry I can hardly speak." "Alright, what do you want to eat? I'll make it for you," Alaric responded immediately.
"Don't you know what I like to eat? Why ask me?"
Alaric fell silent.
He was in a terrible mood today. he could see that Harry was purposely picking a fight, so his own expression soured.
"What's the matter?" Harry noticed the change in Alaric's demeanor. "Upset now? What, is it okay for you to have your way all the time, lose your temper whenever you're not happy, but no one else can get upset?" Harry's words hit the nail on the head. Alaric took a deep breath through his nose and stood up, saying, "I'll go cook for you."
Alaric then changed his clothes and went into the kitchen. Harry followed and watched him as he cooked with dedication despite his annoyance.
What a jerk, Harry thought. He has zero patience with his own kid, but he is always hard on women!
After finishing the cooking, Alaric served the food to Harry, who understanding when to stop, began eating without further complaint.
Regardless of everything else, Caspian sure could cook.
Alaric did not speak either, just watched Harry eat until he finished his meal. After eating, Harry looked at Alaric and said, "Remember I asked you to marry mom before? Well, I've changed my mind." "What?" Alaric was taken aback.
"I now want you to let Mom go so she can find a truly good man who cares for her."
Harry had decided this was the last exchange, and he laid it out plainly. As for how to handle the fallout, that was up to Caspian now.
"Caspian, what are you talking about?"
Before, Harry had so earnestly wanted Galatea to be his mother, wanted Alaric to marry her. What now?
"Because I was shocked," Harry said, "There's a kid in our class that I really feel sorry for. And why's that? Because he's got a deadbeat dad-a guy who actually hits his mom! Man, I can't believe there are still losers out there who bully women. I really love Mom, and because I love her, I want her to be happy. But the facts show that she won't be happy marrying you. Look at you with your macho attitude and terrible temper. Mom's such a kind soul-to marry you would be nothing but misery for her.
Now she's had this car accident and is in such bad shape. If she has to put up with your temper every day, how is she supposed to live? Rather than having her as my mom, I'd prefer she live a long and healthy life. So please, if you've got a grudge against someone, marry them instead. Don't ruin Mom's life. Let her enjoy a few more years, okay?"
After Harry finished speaking, Alaric was stunned into silence for several seconds, hardly believing these words came from Caspian's mouth.
Seeing his shocked expression, Harry continued, "I'm serious. I may be just a kid, but I know what it means to be a man. You have to be generous in spirit, tolerant with girls, and especially doting on your own wife. You, with your unpredictable moods-smiling at people when they obey and turning sour the moment they don't-who could stand that?
If you love giving orders so much, why not hire a few hundred maids to boss around every day? Wouldn't that be more satisfying than having a wife? Not only do I know about Mom's serious injury from the car accident, but I also know about how close she came to dying when she had a baby. It took her years to recover her health, and she couldn't handle much stress. So, please, do a good deed just once and let her go."
