Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 62 You don't want to marry me?
Realizing Alaric was serious, Galatea was genuinely scared and even more furious.
"Alaric, we agreed that I would only pose as your fiancée, not actually get married. How can you break your word?" Galatea asked angrily.
Hearing her accusation, displeasure surged in Alaric. He emphasized, "I did ask you to pretend to be my fiancée, but it was you, not me, who said we weren't getting the license. That doesn't count for me!"
"How can you twist my words like that? You never said it explicitly, but your previous actions made it very clear. You told me not to get any ideas about climbing the ladder, so how can you not keep your word?" Galatea retorted with frustration written all over her face.
Seeing that Alaric sped up without responding to her, she spoke up again, "Are you even listening to what I'm saying? Getting a marriage license is a choice made by two people in love. We're just faking it, and I don't want to go through it. Stop the car!"
Before she had already gone through a marriage ceremony with a man, even though he was in a vegetative state and she had never met him, but the procedure was legally valid and arranged through special processing by Mrs. Marigold. Although she now bore the identity of a dead man, namely Stellan Storm, she would eventually have to confront Mrs. Marigold about her child, and the fact that Stellan Storm was not yet dead would surely come to light.
She also didn't know if that man was still alive. If he was, then he was still her lawful husband. Therefore, from both a personal and a legal standpoint, she could not possibly get a marriage license with Alaric!
Alaric's face had darkened frightfully, and he remained silent, his driving speed increasing constantly.
Galatea was somewhat scared by the high speed and clutched the armrest tightly, raising her voice, "Alaric, I know you're used to giving orders, but getting a marriage license is a mutual decision, not something you command, and I obey. I do not agree. I do not want to get a marriage license with you. Did you hear me? I want..."
Before Galatea could finish her sentence, Alaric suddenly hit the brakes hard. Fortunately, she was wearing a seat belt, or her head would have surely slammed forward.
"Is marrying me really so objectionable to you?" Galatea was still reeling from the sudden stop when Alaric loomed over her, his eyes burning with anger, "Do you know how many women dream of marrying me? Now, I'm offering you a status, and it's your good fortune. Don't be so ungrateful!"
Alaric was truly angry. He had made up his mind to get a marriage license with Galatea, and her refusal infuriated him.
"If there are so many women who want to marry you, why are you so intent on marrying me?" Galatea explained seriously, "All those things you thought before, about me wanting to climb the social ladder, playing hard to get, and manipulating, those were just your malicious speculations. I have never thought that way, not at all!"
As Galatea finished speaking, the atmosphere in the car completely shifted. His veins were visibly bulging, his expression ferocious like a bloodthirsty lion.
"Galatea, I'm going to ask you one more time, are you going to get a marriage license with me or not?!"
Galatea admitted that he was indeed frightening, but she couldn't consent, not at all. "I won't go!" Galatea said decisively, "Even if you bind me and take me to the county office, my answer is still the same. I won't get a marriage license with you!"
As her words fell, Alaric clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles cracked crisply as if he were about to strangle her.
Galatea felt a wave of fear and avoided his angry gaze as her heartbeat involuntarily quickened.
"Get out of the car!" Alaric suddenly commanded harshly.
"Get out?"
Galatea had just been paralyzed with fear, so when she heard the two words, she hardly registered them. Then Alaric yelled at her, "I said get out!"
That time, she heard him loud and clear. Since he had made his intentions so obvious, how could she just stay in the car? She immediately opened the door and stepped out.
After Galatea exited, Alaric's car sped away rapidly.
"What a lunatic!" Galatea couldn't help but curse.
Alaric had already run through several scenarios in his head. He was certain that Galatea's flattering behavior toward his son was just a ploy to climb the social ladder. She had been pretending all this time, but now that he had bluntly suggested getting a marriage license, she had definitely dropped the act.
How many women dream of marrying him? And here he was, ready to give Galatea a title, to take her home and spoil her, and he had not expected to be... rejected! Crazy woman! An ungrateful, crazy woman!
Alaric mentally cursed her with every insult he could think of, losing track of time, until the sound of raindrops hitting the window pulled him from his stewing anger. Was it raining now?
Galatea's words had indeed incited a rage in him, making him feel like he was going insane. Now, almost out of spite, he had driven so frantically far away, but his anger was starting to subside.
As he noticed the rain intensifying outside, Alaric's mind suddenly snapped back to reality. Galatea had just left the hospital today. Her health was already fragile.
He fumbled for his phone to call her, only to hear it ringing from the passenger seat. She didn't take her phone?
Right, in his fury, he had practically chased her out of the car without her having a chance to grab anything. No phone, no cash on her.
What a mess!
Realizing this, Alaric swiftly turned the car around and sped back to where he had abandoned Galatea, only to find the spot empty. Where had Galatea gone?
He drove from there to Galatea's apartment, moving slowly, scanning everywhere along the way, but he never spotted her.
With no other options left, Alaric headed to her apartment.
"Knock, knock, knock!" He pounded on the door urgently.
"Coming!" Mia's voice answered, and she quickly opened the door. Having never met Alaric before, she didn't recognize him and asked, "May I help you, sir?"
"Is Galatea back?" Alaric asked hurriedly, dreading the possibility that she might not be.
"Oh, yes, Stellan just got back. She said she got caught in the rain without an umbrella, was tired, and had gone off to bed."
She's back?
Hearing this, Alaric felt a wave of relief wash over him. But she got caught in the rain? That only added to his worries, considering how weak she had been. If the rain led to a fever... "Mia, who's here?" Elisa asked from inside the room.
"Here's my card. If Galatea has any health issues, call me immediately," Alaric, hearing Elisa's voice, quickly thrust his business card at Mia, and then emphatically reminded her, "Don't tell them I've been here. you mustn't say a word!" After saying that, Alaric quickly closed the door.
It was only after the door closed that he realized he still had Galatea's cell phone. He instinctively wanted to knock on the door and return the phone, but just as he was about to knock, he pulled his hand back.
He safely tucked Galatea's cell phone away and turned to leave. After getting into his car, he didn't start the engine right away. Instead, he sat there gripping the phone, worried about any health issues Galatea might face.
