Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 456 If I'm Guilty, Come And Arrest Me
"Stellan, I'm sorry for leaving without saying goodbye. I'm too old to take care of you, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa anymore. I'm heading back home. Stay well with Mr. Knight, don't argue, and don't worry about me." Stellan's eyes welled up with tears as she read Mia's note. Mia must've overheard her conversation with Alaric last night.
Alaric followed in and grabbed the note from her hand. After reading it, he looked just as shocked. Did Mia really hear them talking?
"Stellan, don't worry. I'll get someone to find her right away. We'll definitely find Mia," Alaric said quickly.
"Isn't this exactly what you want?"
Alaric was speechless.
"Now, the whole villa is filled with Knight family servants, all your people. No one will tell me anything anymore. Happy now?"
"Stellan, that's not what I meant..."
Stellan didn't want to hear it. She pushed past him and ran out. She didn't expect Alaric to help; she'd find Mia herself.
Caspian, Harry, and Elisa were confused and asked, "Daddy, what's going on? Where did Mia go?"
Alaric was filled with regret. He must've been an idiot last night.
"She didn't go far, just out for a walk. She'll be back soon," Alaric reassured them. "Alright, it's time for school. You three should hurry up and go." "Okay."
Caspian, Harry, and Elisa obediently walked over the car. The ride was tense.
"Daddy and Mommy must've argued again," Elisa said gloomily. "I don't get why people argue so much after getting married. Adults are so weird."
"I don't get it either. Maybe that's just life?" Harry sighed.
"Is life all about arguing? If people just argue, why live with others at all? It'd be way better to live with money. When you're happy or not, spending money can make you feel happier. How great is that!" "Yeah, it's great," Harry said, not really paying attention.
"We need to figure out how to stop them from arguing all the time," Caspian said urgently. "They just got married, and if they argue and get divorced, that would be..."
"Caspian, don't say that. You and your future wife will get divorced, not my Daddy and Mommy!"
"I don't want to argue with you," Caspian shot back.
"Me either," Harry glared at him.
"Watching Daddy and Mommy argue and then seeing you two argue every day, I'm really unlucky," Elisa sighed.
After that, they all fell silent.
Stellan frantically searched and made phone calls but still couldn't find Mia. If Mia had overheard their argument and left on her own, she must've left last night. By now, Mia could be on a train to another city. Where could Stellan possibly find her?
But she couldn't give up. Mia was old and had no family. If she couldn't find her, how could Stellan ever be at peace?
She remembered that Alaric and Neil were secretly looking into Marigold's case. With that in mind, she called Neil.
Neil was in the middle of grilling Bill. He figured if any of the three would crack, it'd be Bill.
He had just let Ambrose go, leaving Bill to sweat it out, which was sure to make Ambrose nervous.
"Neil, you got a call." Neil's phone was on his desk, and he was in the interrogation room. Seeing the call, his subordinate brought the phone to him.
"I'm busy. Later."
"But this call's come in a bunch of times."
Neil took the phone, surprised to see Stellan's name on the screen.
"Stellan."
"Officer Neil, sorry to bother you at work," Stellan said.
"It's fine. What's up?" Neil asked.
"Can I skip the usual process and report something directly to you?" Stellan asked.
"Report something? What's going on?"
"The lady who's been taking care of me, Mia, left a note last night and vanished. Can you file a report and help me find her?"
"Mia's missing?"
"Yeah," Stellan said. "It hasn't been 24 hours yet. If you can't file a report now, I can wait and call you after 24 hours."
"No need, we can file it now. Give me the details, and I'll have my team handle it."
Stellan quickly explained the situation. After listening, Neil said, "Got it. Don't worry, we'll do our best to find her once the report's filed." "Thanks, Officer Neil."
"It's my job. Anything else?"
"Actually, yeah," Stellan interrupted.
"What else? Go ahead."
"Officer Neil, you're looking into Marigold's case, right?"
"What?" Neil was caught off guard. Did Alaric spill the beans? He told him to keep it quiet. How did she know?
"No, that case was closed ages ago. I..."
"Officer Neil, don't lie. I know everything."
Neil was speechless. After an awkward ten seconds, he said, "Some new stuff came up, so..."
"I get it. If there are doubts, you should investigate. The way the case was closed before made you uneasy, and it made me uncomfortable too," Stellan said bluntly. "If you need my help during the investigation, just let me know. If it turns out I did something wrong, you can arrest me anytime."
"Alright, Officer Neil, please take care of Mia's case. Sorry to bother you." With that, Stellan hung up.
After the call, Neil felt a wave of frustration.
"Neil, it's dinner time. Are you gonna keep interrogating, or should we grab a bite first?" his subordinate asked.
"All you ever think about is food!" Neil snapped.
His subordinate was taken aback by the sudden outburst. As Neil was about to head back into the interrogation room, he turned and barked, "Get in here and keep the interrogation going! Why are you just standing there like an idiot?" "Yes, sir." The subordinate quickly followed him in.
"If Bill doesn't spill tonight, I'll eat my hat!" Neil said angrily.
