Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 455 Another Argument
"What do you wanna talk about?" Stellan asked, feeling a bit on edge.
Alaric threw out, "Does Mia have any family?"
"Huh?" Stellan was caught off guard. She thought they were gonna chat about Marigold. "Why are you asking?"
"Just making conversation. Does she have any family?"
"Even if she does, they haven't been in touch for years." Stellan replied honestly. "Mia came to the city alone to work and has been with our family ever since. She never got married, no kids." "Got it..." Alaric mused for a bit. "Since Mia doesn't have any family, let's buy her a house in Arizona and let her retire."
Let Mia retire peacefully!
"What do you mean? Why do you suddenly want Mia to retire? Are you trying to get rid of her?" Stellan was totally shocked and couldn't believe it.
"I just think Mia's getting old, and it's time for her to rest. We can buy her a house and hire a caretaker so she can enjoy her life. You wouldn't want her to keep working as a maid at her age, right?" Hearing this, Stellan suddenly realized something, and her heart ached. She asked directly, "All this talk about letting Mia enjoy life is just an excuse, right? You just don't want Mia to stay here anymore." At that moment, Mia was about to knock on the door with Stellan's phone, which she had left on the living room sofa. Hearing them talking about her, she paused.
"I don't mean that. I just think she's old and should retire."
"Then why didn't you say this when Mia and I first came here? Why bring it up today?" Stellan guessed, "Is it because Mia called me today to tell me you went out?"
"Yes!" Since the conversation had reached this point, Alaric didn't hide it anymore. "When I go out, she tells you. When I eat, she tells you. When I come back, she tells you. How is this different from being monitored?" Hearing this, Stellan felt a sudden surge of grievance and anger.
"I asked her because I was worrying about you. Your health isn't great, and I have to work, so I can't take care of you at home. I asked Mia to keep me updated on your condition. Is that wrong? Why do you see it as surveillance?" "I know you care about me, but I'm not a child. I don't want every move I make to be watched and reported to you. Can you understand that?"
Stellan suddenly laughed in frustration, tears welling up uncontrollably.
"If this makes you so bothered, I'll stop from doing this.I won't ask Mia to keep an eye on you. How's that? But I won't agree to let Mia leave! Mia lives with me. She's like my own mother. If it weren't for her, I would have died in the delivery room. She has no children and has spent most of her life taking care of me. If she says she's tired and wants to leave, that's fine. But if anyone tries to force her out, I won't agree!"
"Stellan, I don't want to push Mia out. I know she's like a mom to you. We can get her a house nearby so she can visit whenever she wants. Isn't that better?"
"Not really!" Stellan snapped, genuinely pissed. It felt like her hardworking mom was being disrespected by her husband.
"Alaric, if you force Mia out, you're forcing me out too!"
"Alright, let's just forget I said anything." Seeing Stellan's determination, Alaric had to back down. "It's late. Let's go to bed."
After that, Alaric lay down, but Stellan was too mad to sleep.
"You sleep here. I'll go to the guest room."
Stellan was about to leave when Alaric quickly grabbed her. "Stellan."
Stellan shook off his hand. "Just go sleep."
Hearing Stellan coming out, Mia quickly hid to the side and watched as Stellan, visibly upset, left the bedroom and went to the guest room.
This made Mia very unhappy. She didn't expect them to argue because of her.
That night, Alaric and Stellan, one in the master bedroom and one in the guest room, both couldn't sleep.
Stellan cried under the covers, feeling extremely wronged. Her concern had become a burden to him.
Alaric stood by the window, smoking non-stop. He didn't know what had gotten into him today. Seeing Mia constantly talking to Stellan made him inexplicably angry. He didn't want anyone, especially Stellan, to know about his meeting with Hestia. It would put a lot of psychological pressure on her.
But Mia reported everything to her, and he lost his temper.
The next morning, he got up early, planning to make breakfast and apologize to Stellan. After preparing breakfast, he saw Stellan coming downstairs, her eyes visibly swollen. Had she cried last night?
"Stellan, I made breakfast. Wash up and come eat," Alaric said gently.
Stellan ignored him and went straight to the bathroom. Looking at her swollen face and dark circles in the mirror, she felt ugly.
After washing up and putting on makeup to cover her dark circles, she went downstairs. Alaric, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa were already at the table.
"Mommy, come here. The milk is getting cold," Elisa called out.
"Okay," Stellan responded and sat down at the table. As soon as she sat down, Alaric handed her the milk.
"Daddy is so considerate today," Harry said.
Alaric just smiled and continued to hand Stellan the bread. Stellan ignored him and ate her breakfast.
After breakfast, a maid came to clear the table. Stellan looked around and asked, "Where's Mia? I haven't seen her this morning."
"We haven't seen Mia this morning either," the maid replied.
Hearing this, Stellan quickly ran to Mia's room. It was empty, with only a note left in the center of the bed.
