Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 454 He Still Doesn't Want to Go Home

Stellan just called Mia again, and Mia said Alaric still wasn't back.

Seeing the weather getting worse and rain on the way, Stellan couldn't help but call Alaric. He hesitated a bit before picking up. "Galatea."

"Alaric, where are you?"

Alaric figured Mia had told Stellan he went out, which ticked him off a bit.

"I was bored at home, so I went for a walk. Don't worry, I'll be back soon." Right as he finished, the waiter came over.

"Your coffees." The waiter set down two cups of coffee in front of them.

Alaric turned down the volume on his phone, but Stellan still heard a bit.

"Alright, I'll let you go. Looks like it's gonna rain, so come home early and don't get soaked like yesterday," Stellan said.

"Okay, I'm hanging up now."

After hanging up, Stellan felt uneasy and upset. Who was Alaric meeting? Could it be Neil?

She knew Alaric wouldn't tell her even if she asked. But she was sure whoever he was meeting had something to do with Marigold's case.

Alaric put down his phone and stared at Hestia. She looked reserved, but her eyes were determined.

"Mr. Knight, I know what I'm doing must make you mad, but Mrs. Marigold Knight is your mom. Now that she's gone, if she knew you still refused to believe the truth and were protecting Stellan, how heartbroken would she be?" "Enough!"

Hestia's words hit a nerve, and the nightmare flashed through Alaric's mind.

In the dream, Marigold was full of resentment, cursing him for sleeping with her murderer.

After a while, Hestia stood up carefully and said, "I'm just a maid. My words don't mean much. I just want to speak the truth and have a clear conscience. I don't dare to drink the coffee you offered, Mr. Knight. Enjoy it, I have to get back to work."

Hestia handed her coffee back to Alaric, bowed slightly, and left.

Now, Alaric was alone in the room. How could he be in the mood for coffee?

It started raining again, and Stellan couldn't focus on work. She walked to the office's floor-to-ceiling window, watching the rain.

Autumn had arrived, bringing frequent rains. They say autumn rain brings cold; whether true or just psychological, Stellan felt genuinely cold.

She adjusted her collar tighter, watching the rain intensify, and called Mia.

"Mia, has Alaric come back?"

"Mr. Knight hasn't returned yet."

"Okay, I know. Call me when he gets back."

"Got it, Stellan."

After hanging up, Stellan leaned against the window, watching the raindrops form small streams, like tears.

She placed her hand on the glass, as if touching the raindrops outside.

It reminded her of that night when Alaric preferred smoking in the car to coming home. With such heavy rain outside, she was really worried.

She worried that Alaric might catch a cold, get soaked, or have a sudden emotional breakdown.

But he couldn't feel her concern. He still didn't want to come home, preferring to watch the rain in some unfamiliar place.

Stellan waited all day for Mia's call, which finally came just as she was about to leave work.

"Stellan, Mr. Knight is back," Mia said.

Stellan glanced at the time. He must have come back because of Caspian, Harry, and Elisa. He had been out all day. "Got it, Mia. Have the chef prepare dinner for him. I'll be home soon."

"Will do."

After Mia hung up, she put her phone away just as Alaric walked in. Seeing him, Mia respectfully greeted, "Mr. Knight." Alaric responded indifferently.

Shortly after, dinner was ready, and Stellan, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa came in one after another.

"The rain is so heavy today that our gym class got canceled," Harry complained as soon as he walked in.

"Rainy days are great! You can watch the rain," Elisa said excitedly.

"Now that it's autumn and getting colder, you should wear more clothes," Alaric advised, seeing Caspian, Harry, and Elisa dressed so lightly.

"Got it, Daddy," Harry said happily. "So, when this autumn is over, you'll be fully recovered, and we can look forward to a romantic winter and then a joyful New Year!"

"Yes, this New Year will be the first one after Daddy's recovery and our first as a reunited family of five. We should celebrate in grand style," Elisa said expectantly. "Autumn has just begun, and you're already thinking about New Year? Go wash your hands and eat," Stellan told Caspian, Harry, and Elisa.

The kids obediently went to wash their hands.

Just as Stellan was about to say something to Alaric, he said, "I'll go wash my hands too."

With that, Alaric joined the kids in the bathroom. Stellan sighed lightly. Was it just her imagination, or was Alaric's attitude towards her particularly different today? During dinner, Alaric only interacted with three children, while Stellan remained silent from start to finish, feeling invisible.

After dinner, Alaric instructed, "Go do your homework."

"Yes, sir!" The three obediently went to the study, leaving Alaric and Stellan alone in the dining room. Alaric said, "I'm going to take a shower."

"Alright." Stellan watched Alaric enter the bathroom, where he stayed for a long time.

Alaric, a former soldier, was used to quick showers, but this time he stayed in there for over an hour.

After soaking for a while, Alaric came out wrapped in a towel, glanced at the living room, and saw Stellan talking to Mia.

Alaric withdrew his gaze and walked into the bedroom. Hearing him enter, Stellan also got up and went into the bedroom. Suddenly, being alone together generated an indescribably stifling tension.

"It's getting late. Let's rest," Stellan said.

"Galatea, I want to talk to you about something," Alaric said.

Hearing this, Stellan tensed up. What did he want to talk about? Was it about Marigold's death?
