Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 449 You Don't Think You're More Important Than My Wife, Do You?
Even though they were soaked and had just been fighting, Alaric grinned and said, "Stuart's totally buying it."
"Huh?" Cormac blinked, caught off guard by Alaric's sudden topic switch. "Why do you think that?"
"Just look at how he's acting. Pretty soon, Stuart and Ambrose are gonna go from uneasy to a serious falling out," Alaric explained, then turned to Cormac. "I figured something else out too." "What's that?"
"Besides me, there's someone else who had a reason to bribe Matthew and set up the car crash that killed Orion."
"Who?" Cormac couldn't think of anyone else.
"Ambrose," Alaric said confidently.
"Ambrose?" Cormac was baffled. "He never had any dealings with Orion. What motive would he have?"
"Before I get to that, let me tell you something else," Alaric began. "Galatea rented a shop to open the Reassuring Clinic. There were these thugs on that street who tried to shake her down for protection money. Ambrose beat them up, and they never bothered her again."
Cormac looked confused at first, then thoughtful. After a moment, it clicked. "You mean the motive is Galatea's previous car accident? He's doing this for her?" "Exactly. He knew Galatea's accident was no accident; it was Griffon's doing. Killing Orion was the perfect revenge against Griffon and a way to frame me." "So he knew about Aurora from the start. His jewelry company wanted to mess with you, which is why he could so easily kidnap Aurora to blackmail me."
"Yep, it all adds up."
Realizing Ambrose was behind Orion's death, Cormac couldn't hold back his anger.
"Ambrose, that heartless jerk!" Cormac spat out.
"Not much longer now," Alaric said, staring out the car window at the pouring rain. "First rain of autumn, the weather's getting colder. It's time for him to go." "Since we know who caused Orion's accident, I can go straight to Neil. You coming with me?"
Cormac was ready to head straight to Neil, but Alaric quickly said, "I'm not going."
Neil was also looking into Marigold's fall down the stairs, and Alaric wasn't ready to face him yet.
"You're not going?" Cormac was surprised by Alaric's quick refusal. "Why not? Aren't you and Neil friends? You grew up together, and now you don't want to see him?" Cormac was getting better at joking around. Hearing this, Alaric decided to play along. "Let me tell you something first, then you can decide." "What is it?"
"Your wife had a threatened miscarriage and is in the hospital."
Griffon was buried, and Rowena needed to stay in the hospital for at least a month. Cormac would find out eventually. "What did you just say?!" Cormac's heart pounded. "Rowena's in the hospital? I thought she was staying at your place!"
"To keep you from worrying, I had to lie. Galatea's with her at the hospital now."
"Alaric, why didn't you tell me sooner!" Cormac's anxiety was palpable, and he sped towards the hospital.
"Drop me off at home first. Galatea's at the hospital, and if she sees me like this, she'll definitely scold me," Alaric said, drenched and knowing Stellan would be furious if he saw him.
"Drop you off at home first?" Cormac was incredulous. "You must be joking, Alaric. You don't think you're more important than my wife, do you?"
Alaric was at a loss for words. If Cormac wouldn't drop him off, he should at least let him use the car. But Cormac insisted on taking him along, and now...
Cormac drove quickly to the hospital. Alaric knew Stellan was in the room and hesitated; it seemed inappropriate not to visit Rowena.
"Rowena," Cormac burst into the room, visibly anxious. "How are you? Why didn't you tell me about the threatened miscarriage?"
"You were busy with your father's funeral. Telling you would have just added to your stress. Don't worry, the doctor said as long as I stay in the hospital and get proper treatment, it's not a big deal."
Hearing this, Cormac's tense heart relaxed a bit, but he continued to ask nervously, "How did the threatened miscarriage happen? Was it because you were scared at the hospital that day? How do you feel now? Does your stomach hurt?"
"I'm fine. Don't be so nervous, it's okay."
"Yes, Cormac, she had another check-up this morning, and all the indicators are much better than yesterday," Stellan said, seeing how worried Cormac was. "Relax."
"Galatea, thank you so much for these past few days," Cormac said gratefully to Stellan.
"Cormac, why are you wet? Did you get caught in the rain?" Rowena asked, noticing his wet clothes now that he had calmed down a bit.
"It started raining during the burial."
Hearing this, Stellan worried. "What about Alaric? Did he get wet too?"
Alaric had been standing outside the room. Hearing Stellan mention him, he couldn't avoid it any longer and walked in. Seeing him soaked, Stellan immediately became anxious.
"Why are you so wet?" Alaric was already a patient undergoing treatment. What if he caught a cold or fever? "Even if you didn't have an umbrella, couldn't you have waited in the car? Why did you let yourself get so wet?" Alaric remained silent, not knowing how to explain.
"Are you at a loss for words? You're an adult now. Don't you know to find shelter when it rains? You're a patient, you know that?" Stellan was furious.
Seeing Alaric's silence, Stellan sensed something was wrong and looked at Cormac. "Cormac, did something happen?"
