Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 436 Don't You Care About Daddy's Pride?
Cormac was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes. Rowena couldn't help but tease him, "Why are you crying?" "Just really happy," Cormac said, his voice all choked up.
He was genuinely thrilled. After the Nash family went bankrupt, he never thought he'd get to be a dad. They'd only just started trying for a baby, and it happened so fast-it felt like a dream. "Come on, let's get you home to rest." With that, Cormac scooped Rowena up. Rowena, feeling a bit helpless, said, "Put me down, I can walk."
"No way, the first three months are the most delicate. We have to be super careful," Cormac insisted. "You don't have to lift a finger during the whole pregnancy; I'll take care of everything." Rowena rolled her eyes. "Isn't that a bit much? Pregnant women need to stay active."
"That's for later. Right now, we need to be cautious," Cormac said.
He treated Rowena like she was made of glass, being extra careful. Once they got home, he carried her straight to bed.
"When Aurora comes back this weekend, we'll tell her you're pregnant. She'll be over the moon," Cormac said, grinning.
"We'll surprise her and have a big celebration," Rowena said, her face glowing with happiness.
Cormac was doting on Rowena in every way possible. When his phone rang, he had just brought her some water to wash her face. Seeing it was Alaric calling, he quickly wiped his hands and answered, "Hey, Alaric!" His joy was obvious. Alaric couldn't help but tease, "Are you grinning from ear to ear right now?"
"Absolutely," Cormac said. "I thought you were still in treatment and didn't want to bother you. I was going to tell you in a few days."
"Your wife already told my wife, so of course I know," Alaric chuckled. "I want to be this kid's godfather."
Cormac laughed. "Of course, how could I turn down such a rich godfather?"
"Alright, it's settled then. I'll cover the wedding fund for this kid in the future," Alaric said.
Cormac teased, "You better mean it. You'll be paying for my kid's wedding."
"Deal," Alaric laughed. "Alright, go take care of your pregnant wife. I won't keep you."
Alaric had called Cormac from his study. After the call, he handed his phone back to Stellan, who was waiting in the living room.
Stellan took his phone and asked, "How is Cormac?"
"Cormac is over the moon, and he's really into money now. I said I'd cover the wedding fund for the kid, and he got even happier," Alaric said with a laugh.
Rowena's pregnancy made the adults happy, and the kids were even more excited.
"We're getting a new buddy, how awesome!" Elisa cheered and then said to Alaric and Stellan, "Daddy, Mommy, you can have more kids too."
"Yeah!" Harry chimed in, all excited. "Get me a little sister. That way, Caspian and Elisa can team up, and I can be with the little sister. It's only fair. Three siblings always feel a bit off; four is just right!" Alaric shot Harry and Elisa a quick look, knowing Stellan had a serious hang-up about having more kids.
"Dad, what's with the look?" Harry asked, puzzled. "Don't you want more kids? Are you not capable?"
Alaric went silent.
"You know the answer and still ask? Don't you care about Dad's pride?" Caspian cut in, making Alaric's face darken.
"Kids shouldn't meddle in adult stuff. Go do your homework," Stellan scolded.
"Alright," Caspian, Harry, and Elisa replied in unison.
Taking advantage of Stellan not looking, Harry sneaked up to Alaric and whispered, "Dad, I need to tell you something."
Alaric muttered, "You go first, I'll catch up."
Harry nodded. "Okay."
Stellan didn't catch what they were saying, but she saw them whispering. After the kids went back to the study, Stellan asked, "What were you two whispering about?"
"Nothing," Alaric said quickly. "Alright, go take a bath. I'll be in the study for a bit."
With that, Alaric headed to the study. Seeing him go in, Stellan went to the bathroom. While undressing, she noticed Alaric's phone. She thought for a moment, then picked it up and opened his email, finding that the encrypted email titled "Investigation Results" was gone.
Did he delete it after reading it, or what? She really wanted to ask but was afraid he was secretly investigating Marigold's death. Asking would make things awkward, so she decided to let it go.
Seeing Stellan go into the bathroom, Alaric locked the study door. Harry quickly pulled him to the computer and said proudly, "Dad, just wait, you're about to witness my brilliance."
Harry operated the computer, and Tommy's detailed information popped up. Harry explained, "This is his college info and his previous school records. Like us, he's a total genius."
"Like me," Caspian corrected immediately. "Stop bragging, you can't even get full marks on elementary school tests. What kind of genius are you?"
"Shut up," Harry retorted, then quickly said to Alaric, "Dad, there's something important. Tommy seems to have had a tough life. His parents divorced when he was young, and no one took care of him."
"That's so sad," Elisa said, her voice tinged with sympathy as she shook her head. "We didn't have Dad when we were little, but we still had Mom."
Caspian asked, "If no one took care of him, how did he manage to study all the way to get a PhD?"
Usually, in such cases, people would drop out early to work. What happened to him?
"Someone must have sponsored him," Elisa replied. "There are still good people in the world, right?"
'Someone sponsored him?' Alaric mused, lost in thought. 'Indeed. If no one had, he wouldn't be where he is today. But if someone did, who could it be?'
