Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 432 Heartache

Stellan was peeking at Alaric, who was standing with his back to her, right in front of the big window, with the moonlight pouring in and casting a long shadow. From where she was, Alaric looked so tall, but also so lonely.

Since he started his treatment, he almost quit smoking. If he was up in the middle of the night for a smoke, he must be really bothered. Was it that dream again, keeping him awake?

Stellan kept her eyes on him, then glanced at the clock. It was already 3 AM. Was he planning to stand there all night, smoking until the sun came up?

Seeing him like this made her heart ache even more.

'Alaric, do you really trust me? Have you never let go Marigold's death?' Stellan wondered silently. It was a question they both always dodged. Bringing it up would hit the core of their relationship. They both avoided it, but they knew it was an issue that couldn't be ignored.

Just as Stellan expected, Alaric stood by the window smoking all night. As dawn approached, he carefully cleaned up all the cigarette butts.

And she played along, ignoring the strong smell of smoke.

"Awake?" Alaric asked.

"Why are you up so early today?" Stellan wouldn't mention that he hadn't slept all night.

"I've slept enough these days," Alaric said. "Since I haven't had my treatment shot yet and can still move, I'll make you breakfast. What do you want to eat?" Stellan quickly grabbed him. Seeing him like this really made her heart ache. He always kept things bottled up inside.

She said softly, "Since you know you have to get your treatment shot today, just stay in bed and wait. There's no need for you to make breakfast."

"It's precisely because I know I'll be lying down after the shot that I don't want to lie down now. It's still early; you sleep a bit more, and I'll go make breakfast." After saying that, Alaric gently pushed away Stellan's hand and turned to leave.

Stellan felt even more distressed. She got up, freshened up a bit, and went into the kitchen.

Alaric asked, "What did I tell you? Why are you down here?"

Stellan just walked up and hugged him from behind, saying, "How could I let you cook for me? You're in treatment now; I should be taking care of you."

Alaric smiled faintly, then turned around and hugged her. "You've done enough. While I still have the strength, I should take care of you. If you can't sleep, go wake up Caspian, Harry, and Elisa, okay?" After saying that, he gently removed her hands from around him.

Stellan had no choice but to let go and said, "Alright, I'll go wake them up."

Stellan left the kitchen but couldn't help looking back. Alaric was busy in the kitchen alone.

Stellan went to wake up Caspian, Harry, and Elisa. They obediently dressed themselves and went to brush their teeth and wash their faces. By the time they were done, Alaric had already finished making breakfast. "Daddy made breakfast today?" Elisa exclaimed, seeing the spread. "Daddy, haven't you heard that patients need the most care? You're a patient; how can you make breakfast?"

"Exactly," Harry chimed in, "Being a good man doesn't mean doing everything yourself. We have so many servants; there's no need for you to make breakfast."

Alaric gave a wry smile and looked at Harry, saying, "It's one thing for others to say that, but Harry, you have no right to say it. Didn't you say before that you would only eat the food I cooked, and if it wasn't good, you would get mad at me?" Harry fell silent. That was back when he thought Alaric was bullying Stellan and was deliberately causing trouble. Normally, he wasn't like that. Alaric really held grudges.

"Why do you only remember the bad things I did and not my good qualities?" Harry said, feeling a bit guilty.

"That's because your flaws far outweigh your good qualities. When it comes to you, the first thing that comes to mind is your many flaws," Caspian mercilessly added fuel to the fire.

"Shut up and eat. You are so annoying." Harry shot back.

As long as Caspian and Harry were together, they would always bicker, and their bickering made the house feel especially lively.

"It's the weekend today, and we don't have school. Daddy, you look pretty good; can you play with us?" Elisa asked.

"Your dad has to get his treatment shot today, so he doesn't have time to play with you," Stellan said.

"Another treatment shot so soon?" Harry was startled. "Didn't he just get one? Are the shots that frequent?"

"I'm a patient. If you don't want to end up like me, take good care of your health and don't get sick," Alaric said with a bitter smile.

"Okay, seeing how hard it is for Daddy to get treatment, we'll take good care of our health," Elisa said sensibly. "Today, we'll take care of Daddy at home."

They took care of him in every detail, and Alaric was quite happy about it.

After breakfast, Alaric went back to the bedroom and lay down obediently.

Stellan really didn't want to give him the shot. It would make him feel incredibly uncomfortable.

"Just do it," Alaric said. "After you give me the shot, go to work. With Caspian, Harry, Elisa, and so many servants at home, you don't need to worry." How could she not worry?

But since he didn't want her to worry, she had to pretend to reassure him.

"Okay, after I give you the shot, I'll go to work," Stellan said, holding his hand. "Alaric, hang in there."

Alaric smiled and nodded, "Go ahead."

Stellan gave him the treatment shot. As soon as it was done, Alaric said, "Go quickly, don't be late for work."

Stellan knew he didn't want her to see him in pain, so she nodded, "Alright, I'll go now. You..."

"I'll be fine, stop nagging and go."

Stellan had no choice but to leave first. After she left, Alaric closed his eyes weakly, waiting for the pain to come.
