Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 426 I've Got It Done, Hurry Up and Worship Me
Today was day two after treatment, and Alaric was still flat on his back all day. He was feeling way better than yesterday, even managed to chow down a bit. Just as Ambrose's call came in, Alaric picked up. Ambrose said, "Mr. Knight, your assistant should've filled you in, right? The paperwork for that land is done, and it's now under Stellan's name."
Right after wrapping up the paperwork, Ambrose hit up Alaric. "Like we agreed, once the land's yours, you hand over all the dirt you got."
Ambrose was seriously getting blackmailed this time, and his guilty conscience had him sweating that Alaric might flake on the deal. "The evidence is just the confessions of those who spread rumors. You can grab them straight from the police station," Alaric said, all chill. Ambrose thought, 'Confessions of rumor spreaders? That's all?'
"Alaric, are you screwing with me?" Ambrose was fuming.
"So, Mr. Vale, what kind of evidence are you after?" Alaric shot back, "Proof of Todd's murder? Evidence of the construction site accident? Or maybe the dirt on you framing the Storm Family years ago?" Ambrose was stunned and clenched his fists. He'd been too careless this time. If Alaric really had the goods, he would've handed them to Neil ages ago. He wouldn't be haggling with Ambrose. "Don't sweat it, I'll get that evidence," Alaric said coolly, "Denny knows all about your shady stuff, right? Guess where Denny is now?"
"Alaric! Quit the suspense and don't try to spook me. If you really had Denny, you wouldn't be playing these games." Ambrose was on edge but tried hard to keep his cool. He couldn't afford to lose it now.
Ambrose snapped, "Alaric, you know how I feel about Stellan, and I know you love her. If you really care about her, you should think about her and your three kids."
"It's easy to come after me, but going after those hidden big shots is nearly impossible. If you wanna die, that's on you, but do you wanna drag Stellan and your kids down with you?"
"Look at you now, barely hanging on. How can you fight them? If you're a real man, you should cut ties with your family and take all the heat yourself. Don't drag them into this mess!"
Alaric stayed calm. "You're overthinking it. I won't die, and neither will my wife and kids. The only one who's gonna face the music in the end is you. While you still have cash, you should start planning your funeral. Otherwise, when you go broke and kick the bucket, you won't even have a chance to set one up." After that, Alaric chuckled and hung up.
Ambrose, pissed off, chucked his phone to the ground. He'd been played again, losing a piece of land for nothing. Alaric had no real evidence at all. Damn it!
After the call, Alaric was about to get out of bed when Stellan walked in. She held out her hand. "Hand it over!"
Alaric gave a helpless smile and handed over his phone.
Stellan scolded, "I told you to rest and not to deal with other stuff, but you didn't listen."
Stellan knew Alaric had been on the phone with Ambrose, and his words had her on edge. He was still in the middle of treatment, and she was genuinely worried.
With a stern face, Stellan said, "For the next four months, until your treatment's done, you're grounded. I'll keep your phone. If there's an important call, I'll let you know through the landline."
"Alright, I'll listen to you," Alaric said, trying to get out of bed. Stellan quickly moved to support him. "I feel a bit stronger today. I can make it to the dining room."
"Okay, I'll help you." Stellan helped Alaric out of the bedroom. Seeing Alaric come out, Caspian and Elisa quickly rushed over to help.
"Daddy can get out of bed today. That's awesome!" Elisa said, beaming.
"I only feel crappy on treatment days, okay? I'm not that weak otherwise," Alaric said, glancing at Caspian and Elisa. "Where's Harry?"
"He's hitting the books hard. Don't worry about him." Harry was currently working on their plan, and Alaric and Stellan couldn't know about it.
"What's he studying? Why isn't he even coming down for dinner?" Stellan said, about to head to the study on the second floor, but Elisa quickly stopped her. "Mommy, he'll eat when he's hungry. Don't stress about him. Daddy's the patient now, and we need to take good care of him."
Stellan sighed, "Alright, as long as you all don't starve yourselves."
The kids didn't need her to worry. She should focus on Alaric.
Alaric sat down at the dining table, and Stellan, Caspian, and Elisa kept serving him food.
"I've got the strength now. I can eat by myself. You all eat and don't worry about me," Alaric said, soaking in the family vibe.
Alaric's family life had been rough since he was a kid, and he had always longed for a harmonious family. Now that he had one, he was super content and cherished it.
Despite his contentment, Alaric also felt anxious. What if his illness couldn't be cured? What if those enemies really harmed Stellan and the kids? He had to recover quickly, ensuring his body was in top shape to deal with those enemies. "I did it!" Alaric was deep in thought when an excited voice interrupted him. Harry came rushing down the stairs, shouting, "You two should worship me..."
Harry was so pumped after completing his task that he ran down shouting, not expecting Alaric and Stellan to be there.
"What did you do?" Stellan asked directly, "What are you up to behind our backs?"
Elisa, feeling guilty, quickly gave him a look. Harry strategically laughed and explained, "I solved a super tough math problem, an advanced function!" "Yeah, Mommy, Harry doesn't like that Caspian is better at math, so he's been hitting the books hard," Elisa explained.
"Really? What advanced function? Bring it down and let me see," Stellan said.
This left Harry dumbfounded, turning to Caspian for help. Caspian, however, kept eating like it was none of his business.
Harry cursed inside, 'Caspian, you jerk! At a critical moment, you won't even help me!'
"What are you standing there for? Go get it," Stellan urged as she saw Harry standing still.
