Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 410 Alaric, You're Drunk

Talking about this stuff and seeing Alaric's face, Cormac couldn't help but get serious and asked, "Marigold's death hit you hard, huh?"

Alaric shrugged, "Not really a hit, but yeah, it sucks," he took a sip of his drink and said, "I can't talk to Galatea about this 'cause I know my mom hurt her bad."

"For someone who wanted her dead, Galatea should hate her. Even if she's gone, Galatea shouldn't forgive her, and I can't ask her to. I mean, I'm not the one who got hurt."

"I've known since I was a kid that my mom was super selfish and cold-hearted. Even as a wife, she never loved my dad, so his death didn't really faze her."

"In her words, the only person she cared about in this world was me. She lived for me. The biggest difference between her and Griffon is that Griffon could be ruthless to you, but she couldn't treat me like that." "Anyone in this world has the right to curse her, to say she deserved it after she died, but I don't. She looked after me like crazy during the three years I was in a coma."

"When I woke up, the doctors said it was a miracle, but it wasn't just me, it was also her. The doctors said she never gave up and took great care of me."

"So well that I almost didn't have any of the severe physical reactions that a person in vegetative state would have. I really wanted to live in harmony, but she had to be so extreme."

"I had no choice but to cut ties with her. I thought I'd never see her again, and I'd look at her one last time on her deathbed in ten or twenty years, but I never expect she'd die like this." "Others said she deserved it, but how could I not be sad? No way I can say these things to Galatea."

"Because if I did, she'd feel even more guilty and remorseful towards me. As a victim, she shouldn't have to bear this, so..."

At this point, Alaric couldn't continue. Cormac totally got his emotions.

Marigold had always loved Alaric. What if Griffon suddenly died now? Could Cormac not be sad? Probably not.

Hate was rooted in love, especially the love of family. Cormac understood. He didn't say anything, just raised his glass to Alaric. Alaric raised his glass too, and they both downed it. "You're still in treatment, don't drink too much," Cormac reminded.

"Don't worry, I won't," Alaric said, "Spilling it out makes me feel better."

Cormac nodded. "Yeah. We've grown up together since we were kids, even though we had a falling out in between, we're still tight now. If there's anything you can't say to Galatea, you can always come to me. I'm not that naive kid anymore." Alaric gave a bitter smile and teased, "Not a rich guy anymore, I can tell from how stingy you are."

"I'm not stingy. This is called rational spending, okay? After those tough days, I realized that these expensive drinks are no different from the cheap ones, and they don't even get you drunk as fast. Why waste the money?" Cormac said. Alaric laughed again and said, "Let's not talk about these trivial things. Let's talk business. I've applied to resume the jewelry company's project. Keep an eye on it these days and see if it gets approved." "Okay," Cormac said, "I'm just worried the Vale family might stir up some trouble."

Alaric shrugged, "They definitely will, but their tricks won't last forever."

Cormac nodded, "Yeah, honestly, I'm not too worried about the Vale family now. I know them well. What freaks me out is the person sending the threatening letter. You just filed to reopen the Storm family case, and bam, a threatening letter shows up. It means someone's watching us, like, all the time."

"Yeah, especially that photo. It's got me spooked. There's a mole," Alaric said, dead serious.

"A mole?" Cormac sighed. "With all the Knight family's assets and the army of servants and Nexus Innovations employees, it's too easy for someone to get bribed. And with so many people, it's a nightmare to investigate." Alaric squinted. "There will always be slip-ups."

Cormac reminded, "We gotta stay sharp."

Alaric nodded. "For sure. I've already got bodyguards on the kids and Galatea. No one's getting near them," Alaric said, "And one more thing, I'm about to get another treatment injection. The last one hit me hard, and this one might be worse." Alaric added, "I've already talked to Galatea. If I react badly, she'll take over the company. If she comes back, some of the senior execs might give her a hard time. You should talk to them."

Cormac replied, "Got it, no problem."

Alaric said, "If she comes back, help her out. After all this, she'll definitely have some psychological scars, and she's too kind-hearted and easy to fool."

Cormac promised, "Don't worry, I'll have her back. You just focus on getting better and stop stressing."

"Okay," Alaric nodded. He said he wouldn't worry, but how could he not?

Even after everything, Stellan still believed there were only a few bad people. Meanwhile, Alaric was getting more and more paranoid.

After drinking with Cormac, the driver took Alaric back to the Knight Mansion. Maybe Alaric drank a bit too fast, 'cause he was feeling kinda dizzy.

"Did you drink?" Stellan saw he was clearly tipsy and quickly went to support him.

"Just a little, it's fine," Alaric slurred, "Cormac is so stingy now. He was supposed to treat me, but he whined about the expensive drinks and made me transfer the money to him. Isn't that ridiculous? Is he still Cormac? He used to have wine worth a car, but now he's so stingy!"

Hearing Alaric rant, Stellan knew he was drunk. Normally, he wouldn't talk like this.

Stellan said, "Alright, you're drunk. Let me help you to your room to rest."

"I told you I'm not drunk. I just had a little," Alaric insisted. "Galatea, I'm really not drunk. Don't help me, I can walk by myself."

Stellan just watched him, clearly drunk but still trying to hold on. Although his alcohol tolerance wasn't great, he had never been this drunk before. He must be feeling really down.
