Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 411 Alaric, Do You Really Believe in Me?

Stellan helped Alaric flop onto the bed. The second he hit the mattress, Alaric felt the booze kick in hard, closed his eyes, and the room started spinning.

Seeing him like this, Stellan felt a pang in her chest. She knew ever since that night he saved her and woke up from a coma, he hadn't been right. Plus, with Marigold's death, he'd been down in the dumps. Stellan quickly undid his clothes, grabbed a towel and a basin of warm water, and started wiping his face and body.

"Galatea..." Alaric kept mumbling her name.

"I'm here," Stellan shot back quickly.

"Don't lie to me, don't hide anything from me..." Alaric was totally talking in his sleep.

"I know, don't worry. I won't hide anything from you. I'll tell you everything from now on," Stellan promised.

"Good..." Alaric's voice got softer and more mumbly.

He was wasted. Was it true that when people were drunk, their minds were the clearest?

"Alaric?" Stellan called out softly.

"Yes?" Alaric responded, sounding super lazy and dreamy, eyes still shut, looking half-asleep.

Stellan bit her lip, hesitated for a sec, and couldn't help but ask, "Alaric, those two eyewitnesses you found, they weren't real, right? They didn't see anything, right?"

Stellan and Alaric had never really talked about it, he just told her it was handled.

He found two eyewitnesses, and the case was closed. Whether they were real or not, Stellan never knew. She really hoped they were real. If someone had actually seen it, she could prove her innocence. Alaric answered truthfully, but his brow furrowed tighter, "They were fake. I didn't want to do it, didn't want to lie to Neil, didn't want to..."

Hearing this, Stellan felt a wave of disappointment. Alaric had become friends with Neil and would never lie about something so serious. But if he didn't lie, there'd be no proof of her innocence, and Neil would drag her to the station for all sorts of questioning.

Even if it ended up like Todd's case, with a conclusion of not enough evidence, Neil would still suspect her, right? To avoid that, Alaric chose to lie, which left him feeling tormented and guilty towards Neil.

Stellan felt just as guilty. Alaric had ditched his principles because of her and was now suffering this mental torment.

But she felt wronged too. Marigold had fallen on her own. She really hadn't touched Marigold.

"Alaric, do you believe I didn't push her?" After asking this, Stellan felt her heart race. She desperately wanted to hear the answer but was also scared of it.

Alaric's speech got more and more unclear. Stellan leaned close to his mouth to listen but couldn't make out what he was saying.

"My head hurts so much..." Alaric's brow furrowed tighter, looking super uncomfortable from the hangover.

Seeing him like that, Stellan naturally stopped with the questions. "Alright, just sleep. I won't bug you. Goodnight, Alaric."

Alaric didn't say anything else, just closed his eyes, still frowning even in his sleep.

Stellan carefully wiped him down, then lay beside him. He was already out cold.

When they woke up the next day, it was already 9:30 AM. Alaric felt the familiar hangover symptoms-headache and a bit of nausea. "Awake?" Stellan walked in with a bowl of soup.

Seeing Stellan and realizing he was in the bedroom, Alaric felt a bit out of it.

Seeing his confused look, Stellan couldn't help but laugh. "Did you lose your memory? Do you remember how you got back?"

Honestly, Alaric really didn't. It felt weird. He hadn't drunk that much. Was it his mood? How did he get so hammered?

"Did Cormac bring me back?" Alaric asked.

Stellan couldn't help but mock him, "Wow, you really did lose your memory. No, it was your driver."

Alaric thought, 'The driver brought me back? I really have no memory of it at all, so...'

"Did I do anything embarrassing?" Alaric had never been drunk before and didn't know what he was like when he was. Did he lose control?

Seeing Alaric so nervous, Stellan couldn't help but tease him, "Yeah, you did a lot. After getting drunk, you didn't sleep. You sang, danced, made a mess. After puking, you rambled on."

Alaric was stunned, really dazed for a few seconds. Seeing that he seemed to believe her, Stellan burst into laughter.

Alaric knew Stellan was messing with him. "Galatea, you've gotten cheeky."

"You asked for it," Stellan replied honestly this time, "You didn't do anything. You came back and slept till now."

Alaric felt relieved. "That's good."

"Why'd you suddenly drink so much? Bad mood?" Stellan asked seriously, sitting beside him.

"No, I drank because I was in a good mood," Alaric said, "The big jewelry brand that was supposed to team up with Far East International bailed on them. And they promised to work with us. Such a great thing is worth celebrating, so I couldn't help but drink a few more with Cormac."

Was he really in a good mood when he drank? If he was, he wouldn't have been like that yesterday. But since he didn't want to talk about it, Stellan didn't push.

"That is great news, but no matter what, you shouldn't drink in your current condition," Stellan said sternly.

Alaric stated, "I know. I promise you, from now on, I'll quit drinking and won't touch a drop."

"That's good," Stellan said, "Just now, before you woke up, I got a call from Josep. He said he's been in Country A long enough and is heading back to Country M. His flight is this afternoon. I'm going to the airport to see him off. You coming?"
