Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 382 Mr. Knight Still Cares About You

"Man, we've checked everything, but nada. No clues at all. Mr. Ambrose Vale, if you pulled this off, I gotta say, you're a real Houdini," Neil said with a smirk. "You're like our arch-nemesis, the king of perfect crimes." Pulling the wool over everyone's eyes, even his own dad's, and pinning it on Alaric? That was some next-level stuff.

"Officer Neil, you crack me up," Ambrose replied, playing it cool.

Neil chuckled, "Yeah, just messin' with ya. Anyway, Mr. Stuart Vale, Mr. Ambrose Vale, I gotta bounce. Busy day."

As Neil walked away, Ambrose watched Stuart's face closely and twisted the story, "Neil's totally been bought off by Alaric, trying to stir the pot between us. Dad, don't buy into it. Todd's death? Not on me!" He'd even thought about faking his own death to clear his name, and Stuart had seen it all. Since then, Stuart hadn't doubted him one bit.

Stuart sneered, "Yeah, Alaric's got Neil in his pocket. I really underestimated that guy; he's a tough nut to crack."

Ambrose let out a huge sigh of relief. Phew, Stuart didn't suspect a thing; he was sweating bullets there for a sec.

"Josep from the Institute of Medical Pioneers is here to pay respects!"

Stuart and Ambrose turned to see Josep. Stuart asked, "Is this the doc who saved Alaric?"

Ambrose nodded, "Yeah, if it wasn't for him sticking his nose in, Alaric would be six feet under by now."

Stuart glared at Josep with pure hatred. If it weren't for him, Alaric would be dead, and all this drama wouldn't exist.

"Mr. Knight, I'm sorry for your loss," Josep said to Alaric.

Alaric hadn't expected Josep to show up. He was genuinely grateful. "Thanks, Josep."

After Josep, Tommy came up, paid his respects, and bowed politely to Alaric.

"Uncle Josep." Funny enough, even though Tommy was Josep's nephew, they hadn't seen each other in ages. Since Tommy joined Nexus Innovations, they'd both been too busy to catch up. "Tommy?" Josep looked him over, barely recognizing him. "You've really grown up, and looking sharp. I remember you being this scrawny little kid."

Tommy grinned awkwardly, "Still scrawny, just taller now. How've you been, Uncle Josep?"

"Good, still kicking," Josep said warmly. "Come on, let's find a spot to sit and catch up."

Tommy nodded. "Sure thing, Uncle Josep."

"Who's that kid?" Stuart asked Ambrose, eyeing Tommy.

"No clue, but he seems to know Josep," Ambrose replied quickly. "I'll get someone to check him out."

Stuart nodded, saying nothing more.

Josep and Tommy hadn't seen each other in forever, so they chatted about family and what they'd been up to.

"Mr. Knight and Ms. Storm have been super good to me. They even hooked me up with a big house, and the pay and perks at the company are sweet. But there's not much work, and it feels weird taking all that money for doing nothing," Tommy admitted.

"Is that so?" Josep frowned. "How can you just take money without doing any work? They're doing me a solid because I saved Mr. Knight's life. After a few days, I'll have a chat with Galatea. You can't be the exception; it's not fair to everyone else. It's good to have work, but we can't let this cause trouble for them."

Tommy nodded, "Yeah, I feel the same. I don't mind hard or dirty work, but taking money for nothing? That's just wrong."

Josep sighed, "Alright, the Knight family's been through a lot lately, and they're swamped. We'll sort this out in a few days." "Got it, Uncle Josep," Tommy replied.

Marigold's funeral was a big deal, with all the big shots and celebs showing up. Today, there were no senior execs at Nexus Innovations; they all went, except for Stellan.

The house felt empty, and so did the company.

On the day of her mother-in-law's funeral, she was probably the only one who still went to work, right?

There wasn't much work today since all the execs were gone. But Stellan couldn't stay home, so she came in to look at some documents, even though she couldn't really focus. "You're not at home, and you actually came to the office," Rowena said, walking in.

"Why are you here? I thought you went to the funeral with Cormac," Stellan said.

"Cormac can handle it solo. I didn't have much of a bond with Marigold, so I didn't need to go," Rowena said, walking over and closing the document Stellan was pretending to read. "Stop pretending to work. You can't focus anyway. How about I treat you to some coffee?"

Stellan couldn't help but smile bitterly, "Alright, I really can't focus."

So, Stellan and Rowena headed to the coffee shop. Maybe it was just her imagination, but it felt like there were fewer people around today.

"I heard from Cormac that Mr. Knight found two eyewitnesses who've already given their statements to the cops. This case should be wrapped up soon," Rowena said.

Alaric found two eyewitnesses? Were there really eyewitnesses? Or did he...

"I know what you're thinking, but no matter what, it shows Mr. Knight still cares about you," Rowena said.

"That's why I feel so guilty." Stellan sighed again. "I feel like I've made a huge mistake. I'd rather go to the police station and be proven innocent than have Alaric handle it this way. I..."

Stellan was really anxious now and asked Rowena, "Rowena, do you think after all this, Alaric can just act like nothing happened? Will he think of Marigold's death every time he sees me, and there'll be this huge wall between us, or..." "Stellan, you're freaking yourself out.," Rowena quickly reassured her. "Don't overthink it. Mr. Knight knows right from wrong. Of course, he's sad about his mom's death, so just be patient with him for a while. Things will get better. You two love each other so much. There's nothing you can't overcome together.."
