Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 381 Someone Else Might Be Responsible for Todd's Death.

Stuart let out a nasty laugh and said, "Mr. Knight, what's that supposed to mean? I'm just here to pay my respects, no hidden agenda or anything."

Then he glanced at Caspian, Harry, and Elisa standing next to Alaric and said, "These your kids? They look sharp. Man, you're lucky with two sons and a daughter. Unlike me, I had two sons, and now one's gone." "When Todd Vale's funeral happened, I was still recovering. Sorry I couldn't make it," Alaric said.

Stuart's face twisted with anger, his fists clenching. Alaric quickly moved the kids behind him and warned, "Stuart, today's my mom's funeral. Anyone causing trouble today, I'll make sure they join her." Alaric's words were ice-cold, and Stuart sneered, "Mr. Knight, you threatening me? I came here with good intentions, and this is how you treat me? That's messed up."

Alaric stayed quiet, his fists so tight one could hear his knuckles crack. If they were here to stir up trouble, he wasn't gonna hold back.

Seeing this, Cormac stepped in, "Alaric."

"Daddy," Elisa, scared, clung to Alaric's leg. He had to calm down, picked her up, and said, "It's okay, Elisa, don't be scared."

"Stuart, after you pay your respects, please follow me," Cormac gestured for Stuart to leave the hall.

Just then, Neil, dressed in black, walked in. Stuart shot him a nasty grin and left with Ambrose.

After Neil paid his respects, he said to Alaric, "Alaric, I'm sorry for your loss."

"Thanks, Neil," Alaric replied.

Neil nodded, and Cormac led him out. It was clear Neil had something to say, but since Alaric couldn't leave, Cormac went with him. "Stellan didn't show up for Marigold's funeral?" Neil asked straight up.

"Nope," Cormac answered.

"The two witnesses Alaric found have given their statements, but..." Neil paused, "When Stellan was at the station, she said everyone was in the first-floor hall, no witnesses around. Now, suddenly, two pop up. If they're lying..." Cormac shot back, "They're not lying. We wouldn't fake witnesses. Galatea was too emotional to notice. The two maids went upstairs to use the bathroom since the one downstairs was occupied and saw what happened." "Good, as long as there's no false testimony. If there was, I wouldn't stand for it," Neil, a stickler for the rules, said.

Cormac assured, "Officer Neil, you can chill. There's no funny business going on."

"Good to hear," Neil replied. "As Alaric's buddy, you should keep an eye on him. With his health, he shouldn't be getting too worked up."

"Got it. Thanks for the heads-up, Officer Neil," Cormac said politely. "I gotta get back to it."

"Alright, you do your thing." Neil watched Cormac walk away, and Stuart and Ambrose were eyeing the whole scene.

"Isn't Neil the cop on Todd's case? Why's he so chummy with Alaric's crew?" Stuart asked.

"Probably some shady deal. Who knows what Alaric promised him," Ambrose replied.

As Ambrose finished, Neil glanced their way. Feeling a bit guilty, Ambrose quickly looked away.

Neil walked over to them.

"Mr. Stuart Vale, Mr. Ambrose Vale," Neil greeted them.

"Officer Neil, seems like you don't have enough cases in Arizona if you can attend a suspect's family funeral," Stuart said sarcastically.

"If only my job were that easy, I would be happy," Neil said, then turned to Ambrose. "Mr. Ambrose Vale, you're a hard man to find. When I was looking into the case, I wanted to chat, but you were always MIA. Got to know your lawyer pretty well, though."

Ambrose forced a smile. "Sorry, Officer Neil. Running multiple companies keeps me busy. Hope you understand."

"No worries, your lawyer's been very helpful," Neil said.

"Officer Neil, us regular folks are counting on you for justice. But Todd's case just fizzled out. And now, it looks like you've gotten cozy with Alaric while investigating. Is it right for a cop to be friends with a suspect? Doesn't that hurt the victim's family?" Stuart said.

"Mr. Stuart Vale, you're blowing things out of proportion. And if you're just a regular guy, then who isn't?" Neil said, glancing at Ambrose. "And calling someone a suspect is jumping the gun. My investigation points to someone else being responsible for Todd's death."

Hearing this, Ambrose felt a cold sweat but kept his cool.

Stuart asked, "Neil, are you trying to clear Alaric?"

"Not at all. Don't question my integrity. I go by the facts," Neil said. "Alaric didn't kill Todd. As for who did, Mr. Ambrose Vale, you were at the scene that night, right?" Ambrose felt a pang of guilt, especially since Denny had been missing for so long.

If Neil had Denny, he might've already spilled the beans about Todd's death.

But if he had, Neil would've acted against Ambrose by now, not let him walk free. So, how much did Neil really know?

"I was there, but by the time I arrived, the place was already a wreck," Ambrose said. "If you doubt my story, Officer Neil, feel free to investigate."
