Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 376 If You're the One Bailing Me Out, I Don't Need It.

Neil was like, "Sorry, the surveillance footage didn't catch Marigold's fall clearly. We'll have to wait till she wakes up to get the full scoop." "When she wakes up, she'll totally say I pushed her," Stellan cut in before Neil could finish.

Neil asked, "Anyone see what went down?"

"Nope, everyone was in the first-floor lobby, and security had them blocked. Upstairs, it was just me and her, no witnesses," Stellan replied. "Man, that's rough. But don't sweat it; I'll dig up the truth. Let's see what the hospital says first." Neil was backing Stellan up.

"Thanks for having my back, Officer Neil." Stellan had to keep it formal here.

"So, what's the beef between you and Marigold?" Neil pressed.

What beef? She had no proof of Marigold and Ambrose's shady kidnapping plot. Bringing it up now would just make her look guiltier.

The drama at Marigold's sixtieth birthday bash was already all over the news, and the Vale family was in the loop.

"Marigold's accident on her sixtieth birthday is just perfect," Ambrose told Stuart.

"Totally saw it coming," Stuart said with a sly grin. "The Knight family's nightmare is just kicking off."

Saw it coming? Ambrose was thrown off. Why was it expected? He was clueless. "Marigold's old, falling from that height could be fatal," Ambrose pointed out. "Better if she croaks. If she does, Alaric and Stellan are next," Stuart said.

"Yeah," Ambrose nodded. "I'll let you get back to it."

After leaving, Ambrose told his crew to get the lowdown on the Knight family. Marigold was still in the ER, Alaric was at the hospital, and Stellan was hauled to the police station. Stellan only told Neil about some petty squabbles with Marigold, leaving out the kidnapping bit.

Just as Neil was about to speak, his sidekick whispered something in his ear. "Stellan, someone's posted bail for you. You can bounce for now. Keep your phone on, we'll hit you up if we need anything," Neil said. Stellan wasn't really a suspect, just caught up in the mess. Neil didn't want to make it harder for her.

Since someone was bailing her out, Neil was cool with letting her go. He didn't want her stuck there overnight.

Who was bailing her out? Alaric?

Would he? He should be freaking out in the ER, not worrying about her, right?

It wasn't Alaric but Ambrose. Seeing him, Stellan almost wished she could stay locked up.

"Stellan, what did I tell you before? Alaric can't really back you up. Between you and his mom, even if he says he's got your back, his actions scream he's Team Marigold," Ambrose said. Stellan shot back with a sneer, "Quit trying to stir the pot. That's his mom, for crying out loud. It's normal for him to be at the hospital while she's in the ER. I get it."

"Stellan, are you really gonna keep lying to yourself? Doesn't it bug you that he's at the hospital and left you hanging at the police station? Stop fooling yourself," Ambrose kept pushing.

"Do I need to spell it out? It's gross that a guy who set me up with Todd for his own gain now claims to love me. If you're offering help, I'll pass. I'd rather crash here for the night," Stellan snapped, turning to head back. Just then, Rowena's voice cut through. "Stellan."

Rowena had been searching for Stellan when she didn't show up at the hospital. Hearing she was at the police station, Rowena rushed over to get her out.

Stellan was a bit taken aback, asking, "Rowena, what are you doing here?"

"How could I not come when you got hauled in?" Rowena said, "Stellan, let's bounce."

Rowena quickly pulled Stellan away from Ambrose, knowing he was bad news.

Once they were in the car, Rowena explained, "Mr. Knight's at the hospital. Marigold's in bad shape, and the docs have already talked to him twice during the emergency. He can't deal with anything else right now." "I know." Stellan hadn't expected things to blow up like this.

She regretted losing her cool when she heard Marigold had taken the kids. She should've checked things out first.

If she'd known the kids were still on their way and not at Knight Manor, none of this would've gone down.

"Don't stress too much, Stellan. Even if something happens to Marigold, it's not on you. She fell on her own; it's got nothing to do with you," Rowena reassured her.

Stellan asked, "Rowena, you believe me?"

"Of course, I do. If you really wanted to get back at Marigold, you could've done it when Mr. Knight was still out cold. Why pick today?"

"And I've seen what kind of person Marigold is. She's nasty. Honestly, people like her deserve what they get."

After seeing Marigold's true colors last time, Rowena felt Marigold and Griffon were cut from the same cloth-heartless and ruthless.

In Marigold's twisted mind, she wanted Stellan gone. Now that she had an accident, Rowena felt zero sympathy.

"Of course, it's between us. In front of Mr. Knight, I'd never say such things. No matter how awful she is, she's still his mom. If something happens to her, Mr. Knight's gonna be wrecked," Rowena said.

"I get that," Stellan said, checking the time. It was already late. "Rowena, take me to the hospital."
