Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 377 Quarrel
"It's so late, and you're still heading to the hospital? Aren't you gonna crash at home?" Rowena asked.
Stellan shrugged, "Even if I go home, I won't catch any Z's. Might as well hit the hospital."
"Alright," Rowena sighed, spinning the car around and driving towards the hospital.
When they got there, the vibe was super heavy. They spotted Alaric slumped on a bench in the hallway, head down.
Cormac rushed over as soon as he saw them. "Marigold's gone. They couldn't save her."
"What?" Rowena gasped. Marigold's death didn't mean much to her, but she knew it was gonna be a mess for Stellan. Stellan was stunned too. 'Marigold, dead, just like that?' Marigold had done a ton of bad stuff, and even though Stellan was kind, she wasn't gonna shed tears for her.
But Marigold dying because of this? Stellan worried she wouldn't clear her name. She didn't care about others' opinions, but what about Alaric? Would he believe her? Stellan glanced at Alaric who was still sitting with his head down, and she slowly walked over. Cormac nudged Rowena aside, signaling to give them space.
Rowena shot a worried look at Stellan, but Cormac shook his head and led her away.
"Cormac, is it cool to just leave them? What if they start fighting?" Rowena asked, anxious.
"If they're gonna fight, us being there won't change squat." Cormac checked his watch; it was almost dawn.
"Let's head to the school and grab the kids. Having them around will lighten things up," Cormac suggested.
"Yeah, let's do that," Rowena quickly agreed.
Now, it was just Alaric and Stellan in the hospital corridor, their breathing the only sound.
"Alaric..." Stellan walked up, squatted in front of him, and looked into his eyes.
Alaric's eyes were filled with emotions she couldn't read, a look she'd never seen before.
Hearing her, Alaric slowly lifted his head, his cold gaze locking onto her face. "What happened? Why were you at the Knight Manor?" Stellan had to come clean, "I didn't plan to go. The school called, saying Joe took the kids to celebrate Marigold's birthday. I was scared..." Alaric cut in, "You were scared Marigold would hide them and you'd never see them again?"
Stellan nodded. "Yeah."
Alaric pressed on, "Then why didn't you tell me? Even if she hid the kids, I'd never let you be separated from them. Why'd you go alone?" Alaric was pissed. If Stellan really trusted him, why didn't she tell him?
Stellan tried to explain, "I wasn't thinking straight. When I heard she had the kids and then heard what she said in the interview, I lost it and..."
Alaric grilled her, "So you just rushed over without thinking, had it out with her, and now she's dead?"
Stellan started shaking, "I didn't push her, Alaric. She fell on her own. You gotta believe me, I didn't touch her."
She didn't care what anyone else thought; she just needed Alaric to believe her.
"All this just for the kids?" Alaric wasn't buying it. "You went to get the kids, she said no, and then you two got physical, right?"
Physical? If it was considered a fight, it could still be manslaughter, but she didn't do it.
Stellan shook her head, "No, we didn't get physical..."
"Then what happened?" Alaric pressed, "Galatea, spill it. Are you hiding something? Was it really just about the kids? She's dead now. She can't tell me her side. I need you to be straight with me. No matter what, I need the truth." Even if it was manslaughter, Alaric couldn't send her to prison anyway. He needed to know the real story.
Stellan decided to come clean. "It wasn't just about the kids. She tried to grab my phone, and in the struggle, she lost her footing and fell."
"Grab your phone?" Alaric was even more confused. "Why would she do that?"
Stellan swallowed hard, "Because she was guilty. When I got kidnapped, it wasn't just the Vale family. She was in on it. She was the mastermind."
Stellan blurted it all out, leaving Alaric stunned. What had he just heard?
Alaric's face was a mix of confusion and shock, "Wait, you're saying she was behind your kidnapping?"
"Yeah. If she hadn't teamed up with the Vale family, how would they have known where I was?" Stellan replied.
Alaric's mind was racing. He tried to stay calm, piecing it all together.
He thought for a moment, "She tried to grab your phone because you had proof?"
If she had proof, it wouldn't be a problem. But she didn't.
Stellan shook her head, "No."
Alaric asked, "If you didn't have proof, why would she try to grab your phone?"
"I lied to her," Stellan admitted, "She said she'd hide the kids and I'd only see them if I begged. So I lied and said I had evidence on my phone. If she didn't give the kids back, I'd go to the cops. That's why she freaked out." "You lied to her?" Alaric asked, "So you didn't have any evidence at all?"
