Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 364 The Threatening Letter
Seeing what was inside that package freaked Stellan out big time. The first thing that hit her when she opened it was a blood-stained photo of Alaric, slashed up by someone with a knife.
In the pic, Alaric was rocking a military uniform, looking all young and fresh-faced. Given when he retired, this photo had to be at least eight years old.
Stellan had never laid eyes on this photo before. She tried to keep it together and pulled out the bloody pic. Underneath was a piece of paper with some printed text.
[If you don't want Alaric to bite the dust, make him drop the investigation right now. You can call the cops, but that'll just get your family wrecked again.]
[The dead are gone, but the living keep going. Why not appreciate the life you got now? The three kids are still young, and Alaric's body can't take any more hits. Is it worth risking your whole family's lives for the truth?] [I hope you listen. If the retrial application was not withdrawn in three days, it will cost you a life of your family of five.]
Reading this made Stellan's blood run cold. She quickly glanced out the floor-to-ceiling window, suddenly feeling like someone was watching her.
She yanked the curtains shut, still feeling freaked out. Looking at Alaric's photo again, she wondered how the hell the sender got a pic she'd never seen.
Plus, hardly anyone knew about Alaric's request for a case review, yet this person knew everything.
Seven years ago, the Storm family went bankrupt, and Brennan fell to his death. If there was really something shady behind it, the sender had serious power, and she had no clue who was lurking in the shadows. Alaric's body really couldn't take any more hits. The kids were still so young. She couldn't be selfish and risk Alaric's and the kids' safety just to dig up the truth about the Storm family.
But if Alaric found out she got a threatening letter, he wouldn't back down. He was never one to be scared off by threats.
So, she couldn't let Alaric know about this. But if she didn't tell him and just asked him to drop the investigation, he wouldn't go for it either. What the hell was she supposed to do?
Stellan felt panicked and lost. She forced herself to calm down and, after a bit, called Silas to her office.
Silas asked, "What's up, Ms. Storm?"
"Who dropped off this package?" Stellan asked.
Silas glanced at the package and said, "A courier brought it to the front desk. I happened to see it and brought it to you."
A courier? Stellan quickly checked yesterday's surveillance footage. The footage showed a medium-built person in a uniform, wearing a hat and mask, making it impossible to see his face clearly. There was no way to track him down. Stellan's mind was a total mess. She had no one to talk to about this, except for Cormac.
When Cormac saw what was inside, he was just as freaked out, especially when he saw Alaric's photo.
Cormac said, "This is from his military days."
"Yeah, I've never seen it before," Stellan replied, feeling more and more spooked. "The fact that they have a photo from his military days is seriously creepy."
Cormac added, "This means they know the Storm family and Alaric really well. That's terrifying."
Stellan nodded, "Yeah, Alaric is still recovering. He can't handle any stress or accidents. Otherwise, not even God could save him, let alone Josep. I can't let anything happen to Alaric and the kids."
Stellan was genuinely scared. She'd already been through the pain of a broken family. Now that she had a new one, she couldn't risk their lives.
"I get it. I'll figure something out," Cormac said, knowing Alaric must not find out about this.
After some thinking, they decided to loop in Neil. Stellan took photos and sent them to him, then gave him a call.
"Did you just get this today?" Neil asked.
"It probably arrived yesterday, but I was in a rush to get home and didn't open it until today," Stellan explained, quickly adding, "Neil, I trust you, but Alaric's health can't take any more hits. He can't know about this."
"I get it," Neil said. "Leave it to me. Tomorrow, I'll tell him the review was rejected. Then you can convince him to focus on his recovery and lay low for a bit to let the other side chill. Don't worry, we'll investigate quietly and keep your family safe."
Hearing this, Stellan felt a wave of relief. "Neil, thank you so much."
Neil replied, "It's my job. No need to thank me. You're probably being watched. Have your assistant dump the package and other trash in a nearby dumpster not covered by surveillance, then tell me where it is. I'll send someone to pick it up."
"Okay," Stellan nodded. "I'll do it right away."
Neil added, "Alright, don't tell him. Isn't Mrs. Knight's birthday coming up? Focus on celebrating it at home."
Marigold's birthday?
"Got it. Thanks a lot, Neil." Stellan didn't want to get Neil into the Knight family's drama, just feeling grateful to him.
After the call, Stellan followed Neil's instructions, giving the package and other trash to Silas. After Silas got rid of it, he told Neil where the dumpster was.
"We've got it," Neil informed her after retrieving the package. "We'll keep it as evidence and start the investigation."
Stellan replied, "Okay, Neil, please be careful." Neil's job was already risky, and investigating these people was even more so.
Neil said, "No worries, I'm used to danger. Take good care of Alaric and don't let him catch on."
"I understand," Stellan nodded.
"Since Officer Neil said so, you can chill," Cormac said. "I'll head back to the Knight Mansion with you this afternoon." "Alright," Stellan nodded.
