Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 342 Give Us a Little Brother or Sister?
Stellan fell silent for a long while, unable to find the right words.
All the things she had previously chosen to overlook for Alaric's sake suddenly weighed heavily on her. This time, walking away felt impossible.
Think about it: if Alaric hadn't arrived that night in time, there were only two possible outcomes for her. One was that Todd would have raped and killed her right then and there. The other was even worse she would have been raped and then taken abroad by Ambrose, hidden away from everyone she cared about.
She would never see Alaric again, nor Caspian, Harry, or Elisa. Her life would be a living hell if not a definitive end.
Noticing Stellan's distress, Alaric quickly reassured her, "It's okay if you can't forgive her. Expecting you to do so is a lot to ask. I just hope you won't let hatred consume you; it's exhausting when you carry around vendettas." Hatred was exhausting.
"Yeah, you're right," Stellan finally said, forcing a smile at him. "Josep will be here tomorrow for your follow-up treatment. Just cooperate fully, and I promise in no more than six months, you'll be back to your prime, like when you were a special forces operator."
"Sounds good."
Stellan nestled into Alaric's arms, daydreaming a little. "In six months, you'll be back at Nexus Innovations running the show, and me? I'll be managing Reassuring Clinic, and I plan to open my own private hospital." "Wow, my wife's got it all figured out, huh?"
"Of course! I already have the main physician picked out, too," she continued excitedly. "It's Aurora from the Cormac family. She's determined to become a doctor-top of her class, totally brilliant. It won't be hard for her to earn a medical degree, so I'll snag her as my assistant when the time comes."
"You're thinking so far ahead-what's with the ten-year plan?"
"Ten years? Please. If that marriage certificate had been legit, we would have been married for seven years now."
Seven years. Alaric repeated the number, pulling Stellan closer. "Seven-year itch, huh?"
"Are you feeling itchy?" Stellan teased, playing along. "Show me where it hurts!"
As Stellan spoke, she immediately started tickling him, much to Alaric's amusement and dismay. He burst out laughing, pleading, "Honey, mercy! I'm really ticklish-hahaha, stop!" Outside the door, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa exchanged glances upon hearing the commotion.
"I was worried Dad might be uncomfortable, but it seems we were just being over-cautious," Harry remarked.
"Yeah, the power of love is truly amazing," Elisa sighed in awe.
"Totally. The adult world is just so mysterious to us," Caspian added, still feeling bewildered.
Elisa, with a mix of curiosity and sincerity, asked, "Do you think Mom and Dad might give us a baby brother or sister tonight?"
Caspian answered vaguely, "Probably not."
"Why not? They sound so close," Elisa said, genuinely puzzled.
"Because Dad's still recovering and isn't up for having a baby right now," Harry explained plainly.
"Oh," Elisa responded, half-understanding. "Well, I guess we're not needed here. Let's go wash up and get some sleep."
"Wash up and sleep," Harry echoed.
"Sleep," Caspian added.
After the trio retreated to their rooms, Alaric found himself unable to sleep, despite the fact that Stellan had fallen into a deep slumber. He was wide awake, contemplating the coming months. "Galatea?" he whispered softly, but received no reply. It was clear Stellan was exhausted.
He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, then sighed deeply.
Six months?
For someone as restless as him, having everything put on hold to recuperate was tough. With the company matters off his plate, he finally had the chance to investigate the Storm Family's bankruptcy. He had promised Stellan he would uncover the truth behind it, but progress had been slow, and he felt a pang of guilt.
He vowed to use this time wisely to get to the bottom of the Storm Family's financial downfall.
While Alaric spent the night lost in thought, Stellan slept soundly in his arms, her rest as peaceful as could be.
The next morning, Mia had prepared breakfast, and Stellan was planning to bring it to Alaric in the bedroom. Alaric, however, said, "I'm feeling much better now. I can make it to the dining room myself." "Are you sure?" Stellan asked with concern. "Please don't push yourself if you're not up to it."
"I'm fine," Alaric assured her.
"Well then, I'll help you over," Stellan said, guiding Alaric to the dining room.
"Dad, you're up!" Caspian, Harry, and Elisa, who had been anxiously waiting, were relieved but worried. "Is it okay for you to be out of bed?"
Alaric gave a wry smile. "I'm not that fragile."
"My dad's a superhero!" Harry declared immediately.
The family settled in for breakfast, enjoying a warm and cheerful meal together. As they neared the end of their meal, Stellan turned to the kids, "Caspian, Harry, Elisa, isn't school starting soon?"
"Yes, it's coming up fast," ;Caspian replied.
"I'm really sorry," Alaric said, looking apologetic. "Because of my illness, you've had to spend your vacation taking care of me instead of enjoying it."
"If you're feeling guilty, just get better soon and make it up to us with a trip," Harry suggested.
"Yeah, getting better and taking us on a trip would be the best way to make it up," Caspian agreed quickly.
"Alright, I promise," ;Alaric said.
"Am I too early?" Josep arrived just then.
Seeing Josep, Stellan quickly got up, and Caspian, Harry, and Elisa rushed over to him. "Grandpa Josep!"
Alaric, who hadn't met Josep yet, stood up politely.
"It's not early at all; we're just late," Stellan said, turning to Josep. "Josep, have you had breakfast?"
"I have," Josep replied with a smile. "I was up early and had breakfast already."
"Alaric," Stellan said, introducing him, "this is Josep. He took great care of me at the American Medical Research Institute. Without him, you wouldn't be here today."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Josep," Alaric said gratefully. "I can't thank you enough for saving my life."
"Saving lives is just part of a doctor's job," Josep said, giving Alaric a once-over. "You're looking quite well. It seems Galatea has been taking excellent care of you. Your recovery is coming along nicely." Alaric smiled and replied, "Yes, it's all thanks to my wife's attentive care."
"Josep, shall we start the treatment?" Stellan asked.
