Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 337 Why Is He Still Alive?
Actually, Stellan's thoughts were quite similar to Cormac's. Hearing Cormac say this, she felt completely at ease.
"Alright, then I won't tell him." Stellan decided, letting out a sigh of relief. "Let him rest well. Thank you, Cormac."
"No need to thank me," Cormac replied, "But it's truly inhumane for Marigold doing such things. Even if we can't find evidence in the end, we can't let her off so easily." Stellan nodded. "I know."
Marigold had done so many bad things. Stellan definitely couldn't let her go.
After seeing Cormac off, Stellan returned to the bedroom. Being able to stay by Alaric's side and take care of him made her very happy.
"You're already a director at Nexus Innovations. Don't you need to be busy at the company?" Alaric asked.
Stellan smiled. "Don't worry, I won't slack off in handling your work, but taking care of you is more important. Cormac is still at the company, so me slacking off for a day or two won't make much of a difference."
While massaging Alaric, Stellan said, "After a few more days, Josep will come to continue your treatment. Only until you're almost fully recovered can I feel at ease going back to work."
Alaric held Stellan's hand, which was massaging him, and then pulled her into his arms.
"Don't work so hard. I'm sick, but you need to rest too," Alaric said, "I've slept for too long and don't want to sleep anymore, but I want to hold you and let you sleep."
Stellan had been thoroughly exhausted during this time, and Alaric's words truly warmed her heart.
"Alright," she said, taking his advice to heart. "Then hold me close and let me get some good rest."
With that, Stellan closed her eyes and snuggled into his embrace, finally able to relax.
Meanwhile, Alaric's awakening made someone else feel frustrated. Denny was the first to inform Ambrose of the news.
"How many times has this been now? How is it that Alaric is still alive?"
Ambrose had expected that even if Alaric didn't die this time, he would at least be in a coma for another three years. He was taken aback by how quickly Alaric had recovered.
"Yeah, it's infuriating. How could Alaric still be alive despite such severe conditions?"
Ambrose was deeply troubled. Stuart had given him only six months to not only take Alaric's life but also deal with Stellan. Failure to meet these demands meant Stuart would fulfill his threat and hand over the Vale Family's assets to someone else.
But Ambrose had no intention of going after Stellan.
"And what about Neil? He's still digging around, and he can't find any evidence. The lawyer said he's been back again today."
"Let him dig," Ambrose replied dismissively. "I've planned this for too long. They can't uncover anything useful. They're just wasting their time."
He thought, 'From the last car accident involving Orion to now, has anyone noticed anything suspicious? The investigations are fruitless. Even if they continue, it will only end in a rushed conclusion, wasting everyone's time!'
In the following days, Stellan stayed home to care for Alaric, and his condition steadily improved. One day, she accompanied him outside for a walk in the garden and then handed him the treatment and recovery plan she had drafted.
"Six months? That seems like a long time," Alaric said, astonished when he saw the timeline.
"Is that a surprise? You were snatched from the brink of death. Six months is the bare minimum," Stellan explained. "Josep's treatment plan was similar. But once we get past this, the pain will be much less. Don't worry." "I haven't met Josep yet. I need to thank him in person for saving my life."
"He'll be your primary doctor from now on, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to meet him. There's no rush," Stellan reassured him.
"Alright," Alaric agreed, then asked, "Todd's dead. Ambrose must have taken over smoothly, right?"
Although he hadn't read the news, Alaric could guess what had happened.
"Unfortunately, yes. I hope Officer Neil finds evidence soon and brings that despicable man to justice." Stellan's disdain for Ambrose was palpable; she loathed him so much that she wished he would just disappear immediately. "It's been a month already; finding more evidence now would be quite the stretch," Alaric remarked.
It wasn't just about this issue. There was also the matter of the Storm Family's bankruptcy from years ago. Ambrose had claimed to have evidence that linked the incident to the Vale Family.
Todd, though reckless, wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. If he'd been captured, it might have been easy to get him to spill the beans about the Storm Family's secrets. But with his death, everything had circled back to square one. "You see? I told you to focus on your recovery and not worry about these things. But you just can't help yourself," Stellan said sternly. "If you keep this up, I'll be really upset. I've been avoiding any topics unrelated to your health during this time."
Alaric couldn't help but smile at her seriousness. "My wife's really taking on that CEO vibe, aren't you?"
"It's an honor to receive praise from Mr. Knight, " Stellan responded with a smile. "But you need to stay off your feet for now. Let me help you back to bed."
Alaric felt like a child being pampered, and he had grown quite dependent on Stellan's care.
Stellan helped him back to the bedroom, where Caspian, Harry, and Elisa quickly came to assist. As she settled him in, her phone rang. It was Rowena calling.
Rowena knew Alaric was awake and wanted to visit. However, realizing he was still fragile, she thought it might be best to check in first.
"Alaric is improving every day. Aren't you teaching Aurora music right now? You can stay busy with that and skip the visit."
"Aurora's off to taekwondo this afternoon. I have some free time, so I thought I'd drop by and see Mr. Knight," Rowena explained.
"You don't need to come over. Your gesture is appreciated, but it's not necessary."
After ending the call, Alaric asked, "How are Rowena and Cormac doing these days?"
He thought, 'During my month-long coma, have there been any new developments between them?'
"Not much has changed. Cormac is still being tight-lipped, so Rowena is probably having a hard time with it," Stellan replied.
Alaric gave a rueful smile and said, "Galatea, you've been cooped up here taking care of me. It must be so dull. You've got Rowena as a friend now-why not go out with her for some shopping or a movie? It might do you some good to unwind."
He was genuinely concerned about how Stellan had been cooped up and wanted her to enjoy a bit of normalcy.
