Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 336 You're Amazing
Alaric's body was really weak now. The reaction to the medication yesterday really took a toll on him. Talking too much just now made him feel particularly uncomfortable, so Stellan gave him another injection, and Alaric drifted off to sleep. Knowing that Alaric was awake now, Cormac was particularly happy and quickly drove to the Knight mansion.
When he arrived, Alaric was still asleep. Stellan quickly made a quiet gesture to Cormac, who then walked softly.
Cormac asked, "How is he doing after waking up?"
Stellan replied, "He's very weak, he can't say much, but it's a process. It's good that he's awake."
Cormac nodded. "Yes, this proves that Josep's treatment is very effective. Josep will continue to treat him, and I believe he will recover soon."
"Yes." Stellan was also full of confidence.
Since Alaric was still asleep, Stellan glanced at Cormac and then asked, "Cormac, have you seen Rowena these past two days? I've been so busy taking care of Alaric that I haven't had a chance to call her." Cormac responded, "Oh, I saw her. She's teaching Aurora to play an instrument now."
"Really?" Cormac wasn't a stranger, so Stellan decided to be straightforward. "Cormac, after everything that's happened, I've come to see you as a brother. Since we're not just acquaintances, I'll be direct. I was talking to Rowena, and she mentioned that she's never really forgotten you. The breakup years ago was due to pressure from your family. Now, after a decade, you're reunited-it's almost as if fate has brought you back together.
"I understand you have reservations, and while those concerns come from a good place, what's truly best for her is to protect her for a lifetime. That's what she really wants."
Stellan's sudden confession left Cormac at a loss for words. Fortunately, Alaric woke up just then.
"Alaric's awake!" Cormac quickly shifted the focus and moved to the bedside.
Alaric had been deeply asleep this time and woke up feeling much better than before, with a bit more strength in his body.
"Alaric, Cormac came to see you," Stellan said quickly. "You're here thanks to Cormac. After you fell unconscious, my anesthetic was still in effect, and I was completely powerless. Cormac showed up just in time to get you to the hospital." "And I'm grateful you called me that night asking for Rowena's number. Otherwise, I wouldn't have anticipated the trouble you were in."
Alaric couldn't help but smile at Cormac's words. He had been frantic at the time.
He'd been trying to reach Stellan, but her phone was off. Feeling uneasy, he wanted to call Rowena, but didn't have her number, which led him to contact Cormac. "Thanks, Cormac. You've saved my life twice now."
Last time, Cormac had also been there when Alaric suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
"Seems like I'm in your debt for life," Alaric joked.
"Life's still long, so don't think you can get off easy. I'll make sure to find a way to get you to repay me for these two lifesaving favors," Cormac said with a grin.
Alaric chuckled and nodded. "Deal."
Stellan smiled and then added, "Alaric, there's something important we need to discuss. With you out of commission, Nexus Innovations couldn't operate without an acting board member. Cormac could handle it for a short while, but it's not sustainable for long, so..."
"So, you're the acting board member for Nexus Innovations now?"
That explained why Neil had mentioned going to the office to find Stellan.
"Yes," Stellan said carefully, "I was worried you might be upset. Initially, Marigold would have been the ideal choice, but..."
"I get it." Alaric understood perfectly. If Marigold were to take over as acting board member, Cormac's position would be jeopardized, and Alaric didn't want that for Marigold.
"You made the right choice. You're more suitable than she would have been." Alaric supported Stellan wholeheartedly, pleasantly surprised. "My wife is not only great at medical research but also at running the company. You're amazing." "Are you mocking me?"
"Not at all. My wife is truly incredible," Alaric replied. "While I'm recovering, you go ahead and handle things."
Stellan was touched by Alaric's support. She nodded and said, "Don't worry. I'll manage the company well. But you need to get better soon. I'm not entirely up to the task and can't handle it forever."
"Exactly," Cormac added. "You've got me helping out temporarily, which makes it hard for me to step away. So hurry up and get well, alright? Once you're better, we'll definitely have that drink you promised." "Count on it. I won't forget," Alaric said with a smile.
"Alright, you're still weak, so rest up. Don't worry about the rest. Now that you're awake, I can leave. I'm heading back to the office."
"I'll walk Cormac out," Stellan offered, leading him to the door.
As she had mentioned before, Cormac wasn't just a stranger; there was no need to stand on ceremony.
"You have something you want to discuss, don't you?" Cormac asked.
"Looks like a psychologist's intuition is spot on," Stellan said. "I do have something on my mind. The recent kidnapping incident was actually orchestrated by Mrs. Knight in collusion with the Vale Family." "Do you have any proof?"
"No, but I'm certain of it." Stellan's frustration was evident. "Cormac, do you think I should tell Alaric?"
Cormac thought for a moment before responding, "If you had concrete evidence, you should definitely tell him. It's important for him to see the truth about his mother and understand what really happened. But without evidence, if you tell him, Marigold will likely turn the tables. She'll put on a show, making Alaric choose between her and you. Marigold is his biological mother, and making him choose between his mother and his wife is a tricky situation. If he believes you, Marigold will undoubtedly be emotionally devastated and make a dramatic scene.
"If he sides with Marigold, then you'll be the one left heartbroken. None of these outcomes are ideal. From my experience, my advice is to hold off on telling Alaric until you have proof."
