Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 244 Such a Secretive Matter
"Mr. Vale, I heard Alaric and Ms. Storm went to the airport early this morning. Any idea where they're headed?"
The entertainment center was almost done, and Ambrose needed it perfect, so he was worried about Alaric's whereabouts.
Ambrose pressed on. "They went early, just the two of them, no kids?"
"Yes."
Vacation? No way. Stellan's Reassuring Clinic just opened, and Alaric's swamped with work.
So, it must be a business trip. But what kind of business?
Ambrose ordered, "Get some Nexus Innovations employees to dig up info."
"Yes, Mr. Vale."
Early this morning, Alaric and Stellan boarded the plane. After settling in, Stellan leaned on his shoulder.
"It's a three to four-hour flight. If you're tired, take a nap," Alaric said, pulling her closer.
Stellan shook her head. "I can't sleep. I'm nervous. I hope this trip pays off."
"If it does, great. If not, we'll try another angle," Alaric reassured. "I have friends at the DA's office, so getting the old case files isn't hard. But for a retrial, we need evidence. So, we start there." "Yes," Stellan nodded. "It's an old case. A retrial won't be easy. Thanks for your caring, Alaric."
"If you're sure Brennan wouldn't do anything illegal, then it's a wrongful conviction. We need to clear it up!" Alaric said firmly. "This is about justice. We can't back down."
Alaric's words hit Stellan hard. She nodded with renewed confidence. "You're right!"
"Don't worry. Even if the truth is hidden now, it will come out eventually."
"Absolutely," Stellan said, feeling Alaric's presence was grand.
"Relax. We got up early. Take a nap."
"Okay," Stellan nodded, then lay in his arms and closed her eyes.
Seeing Stellan asleep, Alaric leaned back and closed his eyes, hoping this trip wouldn't be in vain.
Denny asked around but found nothing.
"So secretive?" Ambrose was surprised. If it were business, Nexus Innovations staff would know.
If not business, then personal. And if Stellan's involved, it's likely about her.
Something related to Stellan?
Alaric was really helping Stellan re-investigate the Storm family's bankruptcy from seven years ago? Did Alaric have so much free time for that? Meanwhile, Ambrose already had enough evidence to apply for a retrial.
But Stellan chose to trust Alaric over him. Damn it!
Damn it!
If this kept up, his chances of winning Stellan back were zero.
Thinking this, Ambrose called Marigold. She was busy trying to get the kids to go out and play.
Elisa was up for it, but Caspian and Harry preferred staying at home over going out with Marigold.
Marigold tried hard to convince them but failed. Seeing Ambrose's call just added to her frustration.
"Caspian, Harry, don't you want to go to the amusement park? I can book the whole place so it won't be noisy." She ignored Ambrose's call and kept trying to win them over.
"No," Harry said. "Going out should be lively. Just the three of us is boring."
Marigold added, "Then we won't book the whole place. You can play with other kids. How about that?"
"No," Caspian said seriously. "More people mean more germs. It's noisy and annoying."
"Then one of you can have a private session, and the other can play with others."
"Boring!" Caspian and Harry said together.
Marigold was helpless.
"Just so you know, we're only here because Mom told us to. It doesn't mean we accept you as our grandmother," Caspian said seriously. "Yeah. Over time, we'll be influenced by you. Unless you completely change, don't play with us. We'll be led astray," Harry added.
Elisa shrugged and said, "If you guys aren't going, I won't either. I'm going back to sleep."
With that, Elisa went to her room and locked the door. Caspian and Harry went to their study rooms to do homework. Marigold's efforts were wasted.
"Mrs. Knight, you need to take it slow," Joe advised.
"Didn't I just do so?" Marigold snapped. "It was fine before, but ever since Alaric married Stellan, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa have become more disrespectful to me. They've been corrupted by Stellan." Joe had no solution and stayed quiet.
Marigold's phone rang again. It was Ambrose.
"What does Ambrose want now? Can't he see I'm annoyed?" Marigold was about to hang up again, but Joe said, "Maybe he has another idea?"
Marigold snorted, "His last idea failed and backfired. How can I trust him?"
Joe advised, "People on the same side can be temporary friends. You both want Mr. Knight and Ms. Storm to split. Two minds are better than one." "That makes some sense."
"Just hear him out," Joe urged.
Under Joe's persuasion, Marigold reluctantly answered the call.
Ambrose said, "Mrs. Knight, I'm honored that you answered."
"Cut the crap. What do you want?"
"It's important. Can we meet to talk?"
Meet to talk?
If the kids had agreed to go out, Marigold wouldn't have met Ambrose. But since they ignored her, she had nothing else to do.
"Fine," Marigold agreed. "You pick the place, and we'll talk."
