Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 24 What Did You Do to My Mother?

Galatea stood silently on the sidelines, not understanding a word of Alaric's explanation. She remained quiet to avoid blowing her cover.

After hearing him out, the Nash couple fell into a heavy silence, unable to find words for a long time.

"I'm truly sorry things didn't work out with Orion, but I hope it won't affect the relationship between our families," Alaric added.

"Of course not," Griffon Nash gave a pained smile and said, "We all understand. After all, you two weren't truly husband and wife. If there's anyone to blame, it's Orion for not stepping up."

"Dad!" Orion had hoped they would help her salvage the situation, but to her dismay, Griffon saw no point in fighting a lost battle.

"Enough, don't say another word. You could have been a real family, but you blew it. This is all your fault, now go back to your room!" Griffon blamed her.

"Dad, I'm the one who got dumped. How is this suddenly my fault? What did I do wrong?" Orion's indignant response to her father.

"That's enough. If your dad says go, then go," Mrs. Ravenna Nash ordered. She feared that more trouble might come from Orion's words, and quickly pulled her upstairs.

By now, the atmosphere had thoroughly soured. When Orion's venomous gaze accidentally met Galatea's, she hastily looked away.

"She's just spoiled," Griffon Nash said with a forced smile, turning to Galatea, "Don't worry about it."

Galatea nodded hurriedly.

"Alaric, we all understand your situation. Just focus on being happy with Galatea and leave our daughter to us. We'll make sure she doesn't bother you anymore," Griffon Nash paused before adding, "but as for your mother, that's something you'll need to handle on your own. You know how she can be."

"I understand, and I appreciate your understanding," Alaric replied.

Griffon Nash smiled again, though it was strained, and then added, "I'll instruct the kitchen to prepare for dinner tonight."

"No need," Alaric, taking Galatea by the hand, stood to leave. "We have other commitments and can't stay for dinner but thank you."

"Of course," Griffon Nash said. "Just call me ahead of time, and I'll have something delicious prepared for you."

"Will do, thanks."

Griffon Nash escorted them to their car and watched as it pulled away, his smile gradually faded as the vehicle was out of sight.

"Neither my brother nor you two are on my side. Am I even your real daughter?" Orion was dragged back to her room, in tears and beyond consolation.

Griffon Nash entered the room, his face set in a stern expression. "Because you are our flesh and blood, we can't stand to see you being taken for granted. He's already brought another woman to our home. If you keep throwing yourself at him, aren't you just insulting yourself? Where does the honor of the Nash family stand in all this?"

"Honor? What's more important, your honor or my happiness? I've loved him for so many years. Finally, I'm on the brink of success, and then Galatea shows up out of nowhere. She has no right to compete with me for him!" Orion exclaimed. The mention of her made Griffon Nash pause in thought, murmuring to himself, "Where have I seen Galatea before?"

After Alaric led Galatea out of the Nash home, she let out a sigh, still feeling the awkwardness of the encounter.

"You handled yourself pretty well back there," complimented Alaric.

"Thanks," she murmured.

Although Galatea hadn't completely figured out their complicated relationship, she had a rough idea about it.

'Firstly, Orion was a famous TV star, the one she used to be incredibly infatuated with. And secondly, wasn't Alaric sick? Not only does he have a severe physical illness but mental illness too.

'Delusions where he sees everyone as his son when an episode strikes. And yet, unbelievably, some female celebrity still pursued him! It's a crazy world. Indeed, looks do matter a lot to some women.'

"As a doctor, I genuinely advise you to get hospitalized for your condition as soon as possible. Your symptoms could reoccur at any time, it's not responsible to drive by yourself - it's a risk to both your life and others," she advised. Galatea truly meant well, knowing he appeared normal on the surface but was critically ill.

"Thinking you're my fiancée now, are you?" Alaric sarcastically teased her.

"I'm clearly speaking as a doctor to a patient!" Galatea was frustrated, "What do I care about your well-being?" After saying this, she turned her head away.

Alaric huffed coldly, "Just remember what your business is and isn't. You did a good job earlier, and the Nash family is mostly settled. But dealing with my mother will be trickier. So, brace yourself."

'What? Like those dreadful mothers-in-law from the TV shows?' Galatea thought. "Why should I care about your mother? I'm not truly planning to be with you," she retorted.

Alaric flashed a smile in return. "Where do you live? I'll give you a ride."

"148 Maple Street, Springfield," she rpelied.

"I've never heard of that place," Alaric admitted, unfamiliar with the location.

"Trust me, it's the kind of neighborhood where everyone would stop and stare if your fancy car rolled in," Galatea remarked.

'That's quite a description,' he thought.

Alaric genuinely had no clue where he was. He depended on Galatea to lead the way, but just minutes after she'd finished talking, she doze off.

"Galatea? Galatea?" as he called out to her trying to illicit a response.

She was completely exhausted after doing multiple surgeries and putting on a performance for him that day. It was all too much.

Alaric gave up and resorted to rely on his GPS, and sure enough, it led him to an area that looked like the projects. No wonder she was bending over backward to charm his son. She was probably just trying to snag a wealthy man. As they neared their destination, Galatea's phone started to ring. Clutched in her hand, Alaric could easily see the incoming caller ID.

'Elisa? Is that her kid's name?'

What frustrated Alaric even more was that her phone kept ringing twice in a row, and Galatea kept sleeping soundly. He had never seen a woman able to sleep like a log quite like her.

Taking matters into his own hands, Alaric grabbed the phone and answered, "Hello?"

Hearing a male voice, Elisa was startled, and Caspian was even more shocked. 'Isn't that Dad's voice?'

'What were they doing together so late at night? What was going on?!' the children thought.

"Are you a man?" Elisa was truly stunned.

"Isn't it obvious?" Alaric replied, his patience wearing thin.

"My mom's with a man at this hour? What's your name? What's your relationship with my mom? Why are you answering her phone? What have you done to her?"

'This little girl has some guts,' Alaric thought, but somehow, he found her feistiness kind of adorable.
