Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 22 Get Ready, I'll Take You Somewhere

On the first day of school, Alaric drove Harry to school, and as he stood at the gate, he was truly astounded.

Luxury cars lined up; all the high-end models but paled in comparison to his dad's ride.

Harry couldn't help but marvel, "Man, even getting into primary schools is so competitive now?"

"Caspian, haven't seen you during the entire vacation, and look at you-a handsome young man now," greeted the principal while he helped with his luggage.

It wasn't just because of Alaric; Caspian was the pride of the school, a model student who had won first place in a global math competition for youth-a dream student for any teacher.

"Dad, I'm off to school. Just focus on your work. No need to worry about me. I'll be home for the weekend," Harry said before Alaric's phone began to ring, changing his expression. He dismissed the call with a flick of his hand and waved at Harry, "Got it. Be good and listen to your teacher."

"OK," Harry replied, reassuring him.

Before, Alaric would have been genuinely worried, hoping that Caspian would make more friends. Now that he seemed different, Alaric had nothing to worry about.

The principal led Harry to the dorms and even made his bed personally in a luxurious single room.

Talk about living it up!

Harry sent Caspian a message.

Harry: [Caspian, your school is amazing! All the teachers truly like you. Are you adjusting well to the new school your mom set up? If not, we can switch back temporarily.]

Receiving this message, Caspian and Elisa had just stepped into the classroom and were still looking for their seats.

Caspian: [No need.]

Seeing Caspian's terse reply, Harry couldn't help but comment again.

Harry: [Man of few words, huh?]

While Caspian was texting Harry back, Elisa found a seat and was about to call him over when a little boy sat down next to her. "Are you the new kid? What's your name? Let's be seatmates, okay?"

"You can call me Elisa. And about being my seatmate, well, that spot's already taken," she said, drawing a line in the air.

"A taken spot can be reclaimed by someone else," came the confident rebuttal. "From now on, I'm your seatmate!"

"Move aside!" Before Elisa could articulate a response, a commanding voice boomed overhead. Caspian was making his presence known.

The boy, hearing Caspian, craned his neck upwards and snapped, "And who might you be? Seats aren't assigned by the likes of you. What gives you the right to tell me to move?"

"I'm her brother," Caspian asserted, his tone brooking no argument. "Move aside!"

To the young observer, Caspian's domineering presence was palpable. In the end, the boy surrendered, huffily vacating the disputed territory.

Caspian took the seat beside Elisa, neatly stowing away his backpack before helping her organize the books sprawled across the desk.

"Harry, you were so brave just now," she remarked.

"You're my sister. Of course, I've got your back. As long as I'm here, no one's going to get a chance to mess with you!" he proclaimed.

He cherished this adorable sister of his. In a family that had once doted solely on him, her presence was a rare gift, one he intended to protect ardently. "Thanks," replied Elisa with a smile.

Just as Galen had mentioned, the hospital had indeed allotted a spacious new office to Galatea.

"Galatea, this will be your office from now on. If you need anything, just let me know," Galen offered with a distinct air of generosity.

Galatea, uncomfortable with such privilege, was quick to downplay the gesture. "Galen, I'm just a regular doctor. There's no need for any special treatment."

"Your talent speaks for itself despite being young. The perks you're getting are well-deserved," Galen responded.

'Is that so? Or does it have something to do with Alaric?' she wondered silently.

Galen's approachable demeanor suggested that should she request access to any files, he would surely acquiesce. That would be something to bring up in a day or two.

"I appreciate it, Galen. I'll continue to work hard," Galatea responded with an earnest determination to justify the special treatment with her performance.

The day had thrown her into the deep end-a brutal multi-vehicle pileup, injured patients all at once. She had endured over twelve straight hours of surgery.

Stepping out of the operating room, she felt completely disoriented, as if her limbs no longer heeded her commands. After shedding her scrubs and washing up, she slumped against the wall, exhaustedly collapsing to the floor. "Dr. Galatea, you're nothing short of amazing. A surgeon of your caliber is truly a rare gem," a voice praised.

"Yeah, we truly are lucky having you here today. We would've been swamped otherwise."

Although worn out, the outpouring of gratitude from her colleagues, coupled with the lives she helped save, made her ordeal feel worthwhile.

After some rest, she returned to her office to check her phone, noting a missed call from an unfamiliar number. Seeing it was a stranger, she paid it little mind.

It was a message from the teacher.

Teacher: [Mrs. Elisa, your children performed exceptionally well today. They've adapted quickly and are especially bright. This is undoubtedly due to your consistent efforts in their upbringing. Together, let's continue to make great strides with their progress.]

Galatea was overjoyed. Pride swelled in her heart. This was an unmistakable pride of a mother delighted by her children's accomplishments.

She was about to send a courteous thank-you message in response when her phone rang with a call from the same unfamiliar number.

"Hello?"

"You never learn, do you?" Galatea was immediately met with a man's scolding tone on the other end of the line. "I said to be on call 24/7, and you dare play hide and seek with me!" 'What in the world?' Galatea was dumbfounded.

"Mr. Knight, not everyone enjoys the luxury of setting their work hours like you do. I was in surgery and obviously couldn't—"

"I'm not interested in excuses," Alaric's voice was as commanding as ever. "Get ready. I'll pick you up shortly, and we're heading to the Nash residence." 'The Nash residence? Orion's home? Why?' she wondered.

Before Galatea could ask any questions, the call abruptly ended. 'Arrogant and insufferable,' she thought.

During the busy shift change at the clinic, Alaric's car brazenly blocked the entrance, garnering everyone's attention as Galatea climbed inside.

As soon as she was in the car, she could faintly hear the surprised whispers and gossip from her colleagues. This man truly had a flair for the dramatic. "Looks like Dr. Galatea is Mr. Knight's latest flame."

"Seems like it. Impressive indeed. It's all about looks; beauty often means a stroke of good fortune."

"Isn't that the truth..."

Galatea could guess what people were saying, but that no longer mattered. She didn't care about their opinions.

As soon as she was in the car, Alaric's gaze swept over her, making her feel slightly uneasy.

"I wasn't informed in time to prepare something special, so this is just my everyday work attire. It's presentable, right?" She was dressed in her professional attire, makeup-free and a bit tired from the day, but even without makeup, her beauty was unaffected the pure, clean beauty that stood out even among heavily adorned women.

"It'll do," Alaric stated before handing over a file folder. "These are some basic details about me that you'll need to remember."

After all, she was supposed to pretend to be his fiancée, and basic knowledge was essential to avoid any slip-ups in front of Mr. and Mrs. Griffon Nash.

Galatea carefully took the documents from the folder and began to look through them.

Surprisingly, one detail stood out to her; he had served in the military and even held the rank of colonel.

To Galatea's astonishment, upon finishing her reading, she had stumbled upon a minor yet puzzling detail. With her brows furrowed, she inquired, "Why is there a three-year gap here?"

Although the narrative wasn't overly detailed, the sudden leap over three years certainly piqued Galatea's interest.
