Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 21 Bringing Mom Home, Would Dad Consider It?

Caspian sent Harry a message.

Caspian: [Harry, call me back when you can. It's an emergency.]

When Harry received the message, he glanced at Alaric, who had just removed his coat, and swiftly deleted the text before Alaric could notice.

"Dad, you must be tired from driving. Go rest, I'm just going to use the restroom," said Harry before darting into the bathroom and locking the door from the inside.

Caspian was waiting anxiously for the call. As soon as his phone rang, he locked himself in the bathroom as well.

"Caspian, what's the emergency?" Harry asked worriedly.

"It's about the setup the other day. You probably don't know yet. I'll fill you in." Galatea had mistakenly thought he was Harry, and the dinner that ended in chaos was the start of their misunderstanding. Caspian knew he had to clear the air with Harry.

Harry was dumbfounded after hanging up the call. "So, it was because of you that Mom got into trouble? No wonder she lost her temper with me that day."

"It's not the main issue, Harry. The thing is... their misunderstanding has blown way out of proportion. Mom even thinks Dad's lost his mind - that is certainly going to block any chance they might have to patch things up. You're the smart one. Think of something." Caspian requested.

"Smart, you say?" Harry gloated.

"Anyway, just figure out a way to clear up the misunderstanding between them," Caspian instructed.

"What can I possibly do?" Harry was at a loss.

Caspian hung up on him again, and Harry was ready to pull his hair out in frustration. Couldn't the guy wait for someone to finish talking before hanging up?

Sitting on the toilet, chin in hand, Harry mused. He had no clue about this past incident.

How could one clear up such a misunderstanding without exposing the truth? Perhaps, the only way was to ensure Alaric spent more time with his mom and fall for her charm.

Harry stepped out of the bathroom, to his surprise, and found Alaric cooking in the kitchen.

"Dad, didn't I tell you to rest? Why are you cooking?" Harry asked, rushing over.

"It's been a while since I've made you something. Let me cook for you today." Due to Caspian's medication, he had been on a strict diet, with meals prepared by professional chefs according to a nutritional menu. Seeing his son in good spirits lately, Alaric wanted to cook something Harry loved personally.

Alaric, a prominent man, actually cooking for his son was an endearing sight.

"Dad, you must've slept poorly in the hotel last night, and then you came to pick me up this morning. Cooking on top of that is too much. Let me cook for you, I'll show you what I've learned," Harry offered.

"You're going to cook?" Alaric said, astonished. He had never let Caspian in the kitchen before; how could he possibly know how to cook?

"Of course, I can cook. I've been taking care of lazy 'old' Elisa since I was three. Don't underestimate me Dad; I can honestly cook," Harry said as he gently ushered Alaric out of the kitchen. "Just give me ten minutes."

Harry pushed Alaric out of the kitchen and closed the door, leaving Alaric with mixed emotions of amusement and exasperation.

Indeed, Alaric was tired. After all, he had suffered an unexpected health scare last night and couldn't recover that quickly. He settled on the sofa and closed his eyes to rest.

About fifteen minutes later, Harry emerged with a beautifully prepared breakfast.

Alaric was surprised by the sight of the meal. His son Caspian genuinely possessed cooking skills. Since when?

"Give it a taste, Dad. A breakfast made with love," Harry said with a mischievous grin.

Though he hadn't even tasted it yet, Alaric felt a sense of bliss just at the sight of the meal prepared by his son. Lately, the kid hadn't only been free of illnesses but also seemed to be exceptionally thoughtful. "Caspian, when did you pick this up? Dad's pleasantly surprised."

"Surprise, huh?" Harry leaned on his hand and looked up at him somewhat coyly. "When I started feeling better, I discovered a bunch of new talents. Cooking is just one of them. Dad, see, you just kept the stepmom out of my hair, and look how much I've improved. Now, if you were to marry the woman of my dreams, I can't even imagine how much more awesome I'd be. You might want to give it a thought, dear old Dad?"

Even though he was still lobbying for Galatea to be his mom, his mix of cajoling and trickery made it hard for Alaric to get mad.

"When did you get so crafty?" Alaric was genuinely baffled by Caspian's change.

Harry just gave him an innocent, cheeky grin.

"School's about to start. Get ready for it and let me know if you need anything."

Right, school was indeed about to begin. He and Elisa had just come back to the States, and their mom had already enrolled them in a new school.

Everything was new - the people, the routines. Caspian would likely breeze through, but what about him? He knew nothing about Caspian's classmates or teachers!

He'd need to find a chance to grill Caspian for some info soon.

"Caspian?" Alaric called out to Harry.

"Huh?" Harry was still slow on the uptake with his new name, "What's up, Dad?"

"You used to board at school. If you want, Dad can arrange a driver instead."

'What, Caspian used to board?' Now, he was staying with Alaric while Caspian and Elisa were with Galatea. If the two of them started interacting more, Harry's and Caspian's secrets might be exposed too soon. Perhaps it would be better to board at school and not be around Alaric too much?

"Boarding school!" Harry said thoughtfully. "You're always so busy, Dad, with those late-night video conferences. I wouldn't want to be a bother."

Meanwhile, Galatea had already prepared everything Caspian and Elisa needed for the new school year.

"School's starting soon. As transfer students, you'll be meeting new teachers and friends. Make sure to get along well with them, okay?" she advised them.

"Don't worry, Mom, we're lovable wherever we go. Harry and Elisa charm everyone wherever they go," Elisa exclaimed.

That came naturally to the socially savvy Harry and Elisa, but Caspian was different - always the aloof one. Even his teachers would say he had an air of distance that was unusual in a child.

"Can I not board?" Caspian inquired. He had always been a boarding student, wanting to avoid Orion at all costs, but now he no longer wished to stay on campus.

"No need. I can't pick you guys up because of work. Mia will take care of the daily rides," she said.

Speaking of her job, she was all set to return to Serenity Heights Medical Center when Galen, the epitome of politeness, rang her up personally.

Being aware that her children's school would be starting soon, he offered her paid leave, saying that everything had been arranged in the office. She could start working after sorting everything out with the school. Alaric's influence was visibly strong; even without saying much, Galen was ready to pamper her.
