Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 132 Alaric Suddenly Becomes Capricious
After finishing a call with Mrs. Marigold, Alaric's mood remained unsettled, and he felt even more sorry for Caspian.
He thought about all those years when Caspian had suffered so much and recalled him desperately crying out, "I want Galatea to be my mommy; I only recognize her as my mommy!" Remembering how heartbroken Caspian had looked while he repeatedly rejected and shouted at him, Alaric realized that this could be his fault.
"I'm back." Galatea walked in with a shopping bag filled with noodles.
"Why were you gone for so long?" he checked the time and asked.
"The supermarket near the hospital didn't have any noodles, so I went to another one. It took me some time. Are you hungry? I'll cook for you right away."
After saying that, she quickly made the noodles while he watched her, feeling strangely curious.
Previously, when he misunderstood her, he could find reasons to dislike everything she did. But now, no matter which angle he looked, he only felt more and more fond of her.
Soon, she served the noodles on the table and said, "Alright, come and eat."
He got up from the bed and sat down at the table, eating. She was quite surprised to see him enjoying the noodles so much.
"Nobody would believe that the noble Mr. Alaric actually loved eating plain noodles."
"Although exotic dishes are good, they can be tiring when eaten too often. Unlike this bowl of plain noodles, they don't have much flavor when eaten, but they can be savored and leave a lasting impression." "Oh." Galatea nodded as if she understood.
"Stay here tonight."
"Huh?" she froze.
"I'm sick, and I need someone to take care of me."
"But didn't you already live here alone for a week before? You took care of yourself during that time without anyone around, and now you suddenly need someone to take care of you?"
"I realized how pitiful I was to not have anyone taking care of me, especially at night. It's almost unbearable."
Was Alaric really saying this? He sounded so sweet.
"But I've been busy before and haven't spent much time with Harry and Elisa. I want to spend more time with them at night."
"Oh, okay then. It's important to spend time with the children." His visible dissatisfaction immediately appeared, his words in a passive-aggressive tone.
"Then you should go to bed early."
"I have to get the IV drip in the evening, so I can't go to bed early. But it's okay," Alaric said as he got onto the bed. He continued, "It's getting late; go back and spend time with Harry and Elisa. They're waiting for you." Galatea found his tone both funny and frustrating. How did the cold and distant Alaric suddenly become a 3-year-old child?
"If you have to get the IV drip at night, how about I find a nurse for you?"
"No need. I don't like strangers next to me." he immediately refused, turning his body away and saying, "You should leave quickly. The kids are waiting."
She sighed helplessly and said, "Okay, I'm leaving."
"Uh-huh," Alaric replied in a moody and superficial manner.
She then left the room. Just as she stepped out, a nurse pushed a medicine cart into his room. It seemed that he'd need to receive several bags of medicine tonight. Looking back at Alaric, who was still lying on the bed with his back turned, Galatea gave a bitter smile full of resignation and walked back in.
However, as soon as the nurse pushed the cart into the room, she was urgently called by another patient. She quickly responded, "I'll put an IV in bed 3 and head over."
There weren't enough nurses on duty tonight, perhaps due to the high number of patients on the floor. Galatea showed her physician's ID to the nurse and said, "I'm a doctor; I can handle it. You can go and attend to your other duties." The nurse glanced at her ID and saw the urgent situation downstairs, so she said, "Thank you so much for your help."
Thus, Galatea took the medicine bag and syringe and entered the room. She approached the bed and said, "Get up. It's time for your injection."
Seeing her return, he asked, "Didn't you say you were going home to be with the children? Why are you still here?"
"How could I leave you alone in the hospital?" she said as she applied medicine to him. "Well, considering how caring you were while I was in the hospital, I'll reluctantly stay."
"At least you have a conscience," he said.
This man's emotions sure changed quickly.
She was used to him being cold, stern, and arrogant. Seeing this side of him for the first time made her feel like he was more down-to-earth. She finally felt like he was an ordinary man. "Bear with it; I'm about to inject you," Galatea said, then went ahead and injected the needle into the vein on the back of his hand. Surprisingly, Alaric didn't feel any pain.
"Dr. Galatea's needling technique is really good," he asked curiously, "Did you all start by practicing on yourselves?"
"Needling is child's play. Moreover, I'm a doctor, and my main focus is clinical research. It involves dissecting donated bodies, studying where to make incisions, how to remove tumors perfectly while avoiding organs and arteries, and dealing with various accidents that may occur during surgery," she gestured on Alaric's stomach as she spoke. "Well, forget it; you wouldn't understand."
Seeing her proud look, he teased, "No wonder Dr. Galatea was able to enter Country M's Medical Research Institute at such a young age."
"I'm not boasting; that institute is the pinnacle of the medical field. It only recruits every five years, with tens of thousands of applicants, and only three being selected. I was ranked first in both the written test and the interview, and Director Josep treated me well at that time. He tried persuading me not to leave the institute several times, saying that I could come back anytime if I wanted to."
"Since it's so difficult to enter that place and the dean treats you well, why did you come back?"
Galatea was just talking casually earlier, never expecting Alaric to ask such a serious question. "Because..." In this situation, she didn't want to lie. "I came back because I wanted to find..." "Ambrose?"
She was about to reveal that she wanted to find her son, but she didn't expect Alaric to interrupt her!
"What?" she didn't have time to react before he bit her lip again, sternly reminding, "Forget about him completely; Alaric is your future husband's name, do you understand?" Future husband?
"Did you hear me?" he asked again when she didn't respond.
"I... I heard that," she replied.
He smiled and kissed her again, leaving her in awe. She couldn't believe it; after all, he was still getting treated at the hospital!
