Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 8
Chapter 8:
? ? ? ? ?
Fortunately, Lauren had given a fair explanation before Mitchel's suspicion germinated into distrust.
She chose to point out that there was something wrong with the wheelchair.
This way, even if Raegan decided to tell on her, Mitchel would have no choice but to think that Raegan was vicious.
It was like killing two birds with one stone.
However, Lauren was very upset by Mitchel's reaction. The Mitchel she knew in the past would never question her for the sake of another person. Today, he not only questioned her, but suspected her because of Raegan.
Lauren adopted a trick today to gauge the situation. He usually didn't like getting his hands dirty. If she wanted one person out of her way, she would get someone else to do the dirty work.
Thinking that Mitchel had been with Raegan for two whole years, Lauren's fingers dug into her palm. Her beautiful face twisted with anger.
How dare Raegan! Wait and see. Mitchel would be his again…
There was a pungent smell of disinfectant in the air.
In a hazy atmosphere, Mitchel stared at Raegan with his lips twisted in disgust as he asked, "Are you pregnant?"
The next second, he mercilessly spat out, “Abort immediately!”
"By no means!" Raegan shouted. Her eyes suddenly opened and she was drenched in cold sweat.
Everything I saw was white, including the walls, ceiling, and table.
It took Raegan a while to realize that she was in a hospital and that the scene she had just seen was nothing more than a dream.
She sighed in relief. It didn't take long for his breathing to calm down.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open and someone entered.
The man was slim, handsome, and wore narrow gold-rimmed glasses that gave him a rather elegant appearance.
Raegan's eyes snapped open. He was the last person I expected to see right now.
"What are you doing here, Henley?" he blurted out, his eyebrows raised in confusion.
“Well, I ran into Nicole in the parking lot earlier. “She was having an altercation with someone but she was worried about you, so she asked me to look for you first,” Henley explained patiently.
Memories of Raegan flooded into his head like a tidal wave. She touched her belly, worried if her baby was okay.
He wanted to ask her, but it was difficult for him to do so. He hesitated: "And my...?"
"Don't worry. The doctor gave you a good check-up. “The baby is fine,” Henley responded softly.
Hearing that, Raegan breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Thank you, Henley."
“Don't mention it,” Henley replied as his eyes darkened.
«I must say that I am quite surprised that you are already married. Do you want me to call your husband?
"No no. "It will not be necessary." Raegan shook her head slightly.
"Because?" Confused, Henley couldn't help but ask.
Raegan didn't know how to say it.
“Well, I… The thing is…”
How could she tell Henley that her unfaithful husband must be with another woman right now?
Seeing that he was in a dilemma, Henley decided not to interfere. He changed the subject.
“Anyway, how are you feeling now?”
I was worried about Raegan. His expression and demeanor were enough to show that he was not in a good mood.
"I'm fine. Raegan forced a smile as she looked at Henley and said, “Can I add you as a friend on WhatsApp?”
This request stunned Henley.
When Raegan noticed that Henley was looking at her with deeper-than-normal eyes, she immediately explained, “Oh, I just want to contact you later so I can reimburse you for the exam costs. That…"
"We're already friends on WhatsApp," Henley interrupted.
"Hey?"
Henley took out his phone and clicked on WhatsApp contacts.
Then he gave the phone to her. With a smile, he said, "Look, I sent you a message, but you blocked me."
Raegan was speechless.
He stared at the username for a long moment before it dawned on him.
On New Year's Eve, I had received a congratulatory message from him.
He responded by asking who she was, and later received a response saying it was Henley Brooks.
The answer stunned Raegan at the time. At the time, Internet fraud was prevalent, and Henley had already gone abroad. She found it strange that someone so successful would take the time and initiative to contact her on WhatsApp like a friend would.
He suspected a scammer was impersonating Henley, so he blocked him.
But it turned out I was wrong.
In an instant she felt a little embarrassed.
Holding her forehead, Raegan said guiltily, “I'm sorry, Henley. I had no idea it was you. Honestly, I thought he was one of those scammers. That's why I blocked you. Now I will remove you from the blacklist.
Raegan was tapping the screen of her phone. Suddenly, his phone went off.
His shame quadrupled.
"No problem. Unblock me later. Henley smiled from ear to ear as he said cheerfully, “Take a good rest first. Nicole will be here soon.
Her warm smile reminded Raegan of her college days. His presence and smile cheered her up immediately.
“Henley!” Raegan shouted as Henley headed for the door. He hesitated for a moment and said, “As for the baby, can you keep the secret from me? "If Nicole finds out I'm pregnant, she'll confront my husband and it could end badly."
He didn't want to humiliate himself anymore.
Hearing Raegan's words, Henley nodded without asking further.
As he walked out, he glanced at Raegan who was lying on the bed. He noticed the incomprehensible emotions swirling in her gentle eyes. His forehead was wrinkled.
After a while, he turned around and left.
Raegan's eyes landed on the ultrasound results on the nightstand. The blurry black and white image filled his heart with a strange warmth.
Honestly, I had thought about having an abortion.
I wasn't sure that giving birth to a child under those circumstances was the best thing.
But when she felt that sharp pain in her belly, she prayed not to lose her baby. All he wanted was for her to be safe.
After all, the baby was innocent.
I wanted to protect him.
Fortunately, the baby was strong enough. He saw no reason to deprive the poor little angel of coming into this world.
Raegan began toying with the idea of raising the child alone.
Shortly after Henley left, Nicole arrived at the hospital. Raegan was fine, except for the bruises. Therefore, he could go home to recover.
Nicole had no idea what was happening. She insulted Mitchel, scolding him for being the most ruthless husband. The basis of Nicole's anger was that he was nowhere to be found at that critical moment.
As soon as Raegan returned to her apartment, she ordered chicken soup at the restaurant downstairs before going upstairs.
It was dark in the apartment when he entered. However, he could feel someone's presence.
Remembering that her neighbor had just told her about a robbery, Raegan's heart pounded in her ears. He prepared to run.
Before he could move a muscle, he saw a black figure approaching him.
He immediately threw the food at the person and turned around.
She was barely out the door when a strong hand grabbed her wrist tightly. Raegan pulled back, but couldn't free herself.
Suddenly there was a snap.
The light came on almost immediately.
Blinded by the light for a moment, Raegan squinted and looked up, only to see the handsome face of a man.
It was the same man Nicole had scolded on her return.
Mitchel raised an eyebrow at Raegan.
«Hey, what were you thinking? Did you want to kill your husband?
His tone was playful.
But to Raegan those words sounded harsh and even ironic.
As she frowned at him, Mitchel let go of her and picked up the takeout from the floor. Then he threw it in the trash can.
«This is bad for you. I've already ordered something else. "It should arrive any moment."
Raegan gulped as she saw the food lying in the trash can.
She was so exhausted and hungry that she didn't even have the strength to argue.
For a moment, Raegan felt like she would share the similar fate of the takeout in the trash can. With Lauren's return, Mitchel could divorce her at any time.
«Don't bother. I'm tired. Mr. Dixon, please leave me alone.
Her tone and expression were very cold as she walked alongside him towards the bedroom. Before she could take any steps, Mitchel grabbed her wrist again and pulled her back. She instantly fell into his arms.
“I didn't want to push you, Raegan. "I was just worried about Lauren," he said softly, looking into her eyes.
Raegan's eyelashes fluttered and her heart skipped a beat.
Somehow, she felt his tenderness for her. But then he realized he was imagining things again.
Mitchel's voice had always been cold and somewhat sweet.
A stab hit his heart before he could now enjoy its tenderness.
At that moment, their bodies were so close. Raegan could smell her scent, and there was a strange feminine fragrance that was definitely not hers.
It was the same one he had smelled before when he was close enough to Lauren.
There was only one way Lauren could have passed her scent on to him, and that was by hugging! Thinking about them in that position made Raegan feel bad. He pushed Mitchel away and ran into the bathroom.
It wasn't until Raegan vomited everything in her stomach that she felt much better.
He wiped his mouth and headed for the bathroom door when Mitchel blocked his way. He took her hand and looked at her face with half-lidded eyes.
"What's the matter?"
