? ? ? ? ?

Disappointment washed over her immediately.

As he turned to leave, a display case on the other side caught his attention.

Nicole walked over to her and watched. Inside were several shelves full of objects deeply related to her. Some were her graduation project, her graduation photo, the scarf she had knitted for Jarrod, a lunch box she used to bring him food, and many more.

There were too many objects and I didn't even remember some of them. He searched his memory until he recognized that they were the ones she had given him. Everything was meticulously preserved and organized inside the closet. Furthermore, the closet itself was immaculate.

Obviously, someone had been cleaning it regularly.

Since no one could access this secret room, that only meant that Jarrod was the one who cleaned it every day.

Suddenly, Nicole felt something oppressing her heart. These objects reminded him of those happy moments they had shared before. Jarrod was so good to her back then.

They both loved sunbathing on summer afternoons, sharing good stories. In autumn, they used to walk hand in hand along the path covered in autumn leaves. They enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers that bloomed in spring, and huddled together on snowy winter days for warmth.

But one day, everything suddenly changed. Life turned Jarrod into a monster. He began to hate her and deliberately trample on her.

And now, she was no longer different from him. Hatred had corroded his heart and mind.

Nicole knew that Jarrod's goal was to turn her into a monster like him.

Finally, he did it. Now they were the same type. No matter what happened, she could no longer live a normal life. Those ordinary days he had longed for were now out of reach.

Nicole thought for a while. She didn't even realize that tears were already streaming down her face uncontrollably.

Suddenly, several footsteps were heard outside. Then a maid said, "Alec, you're back."

“Yeah…” Alec just hummed in response.

Nicole panicked. He hurriedly left the secret room and pressed the button to return the bed to its original place.

As soon as he did, the door to Jarrod's room was pushed open from the outside.

When Alec saw Nicole inside, the expression on his face changed drastically. He frowned and snapped, "Who let you in here?"

Nicole became nervous, feigning calm. «Who else? Jarrod scheduled me to give him the medicine at this time.

Alec fixed his sharp eyes on Nicole, almost as if he could see right through her.

Nicole feigned calm. She looked at him and asked, "Where's Jarrod?"

Alec asked mockingly, "Miss Lawrence, don't you know?"

«Know what? Is it gone? Where has he gone? Nicole played dumb.

After all, she really wouldn't know that Jarrod had fainted if she hadn't heard the maids' conversation. To avoid trouble, she did not admit the knowledge voluntarily.
