Chapter 1604:
? ? ? ? ?
He wanted to fully embrace this pregnancy with Nicole, perhaps to make up for her absence during her pregnancy with Austin. The life growing inside Nicole's womb was his, and he was committed to her, no matter the obstacles.
Nicole stood up, her face marked by tiredness, saying: "I need to think about it before I give you an answer."
Although Nicole's stance had softened a little, it wasn't enough to reassure Jarrod. "I'll tell Conor to take you," she offered.
Jarrod knew that Nicole harbored a certain disdain for him, so he refrained from suggesting that he take her himself, despite his intense concern and desire to be by her side. Still, he understood her reluctance to accept his help.
Nicole's doubt was evident. She longed for a moment alone to gather her thoughts. "I'll go back alone," she said firmly.
Jarrod paused, but eventually agreed, respecting his decision.
Nicole stood up from her seat, ready to leave.
As Nicole approached the door, Jarrod followed her.
"Nicole," I called her.
She paused, sensing his presence behind her. Jarrod's voice dropped to a whisper. “Think carefully about it. “Austin misses you very much.”
His words carried a double-edged message, mixing a subtle plea with an implicit warning.
Despite knowing how much Austin missed her, Nicole felt powerless to change the situation. “I will,” she replied, her voice tinged with resignation and sadness.
As Nicole disappeared into the elevator, Jarrod's gaze lingered on the descending elevator, his heart sinking with each moment.
Conor approached Jarrod with the intention of asking him a question, but Jarrod remained silent for what seemed like an eternity.
A heavy silence fell between them until Conor, summoning his courage, finally spoke: "Mr. Schultz?"
After what seemed like an eternity, Jarrod finally broke the silence.
"Find someone you trust to protect you."
Sensing the distance in Jarrod's demeanor, Conor couldn't shake the feeling of helplessness. It was clear that his words had fallen on deaf ears.
Conor respectfully agreed. “Understood.”
“You can go now,” Jarrod ordered, his brow furrowed with intensity.
“Right away, sir,” Conor agreed.
As Jarrod watched Conor leave, he added, “And remind them to be discreet. We can't afford any slip-ups. “She must remain unprepared.”
Jarrod didn't want Nicole to resent his protective measures.
Nicole was a force to be reckoned with. When she declared she was done loving, she meant it. While she was moving on effortlessly, Jarrod found himself stuck in the past.
Jarrod found himself completely captivated by Nicole's presence. Every time she crossed his path or her name came up in conversation, a surge of awareness would set off in him, like electricity coursing through his veins. He realized that he had completely failed under his spell.
