Chapter 1605:

? ? ? ? ?

However, the harsh truth that had struck Jarrod in the Valley of the Witches shattered his heart. Nicole's love for him had vanished without a trace. No matter what trials she endured, her affection would forever elude him.

Nicole's gaze held a truth that shattered Jarrod's world. The love he once professed was now in ruins.

Reality plunged Jarrod into deep despair. He had really tried to free Nicole. But fate, with its twisted sense of humor, had played a dirty trick on him. Now, Nicole was pregnant with her child.

Jarrod felt an overwhelming debt of gratitude towards Nicole's lawyer. Without the photograph Rhett had presented to him, he would have been completely unaware that Nicole was pregnant.

That instant confirmation had rekindled Jarrod's dull heart with overwhelming joy, making him realize that deep down, he had always longed for this opportunity.

Despite Jarrod's overwhelming joy, a dark cloud of fear hung over him, overshadowing his happiness. Memories of his past mistakes haunted him relentlessly, especially his failure to protect Austin, his own son, and the pain he had caused.

The mere thought of history repeating itself, of potentially subjecting another innocent life to the same anguish, made him shudder.

As Jarrod pondered the specter of losing something he had not yet had, fear gnawed at him with relentless persistence, tightening his grip with each passing moment.

The last time he had felt such overwhelming dread was when Nicole staged her own death, and now it had resurfaced. Fear gnawed at his soul, unable to express his anguish.

Silently, Jarrod pleaded, “Nicole, please. Let the boy have a chance. Give me a chance to make amends.”

That night, as soon as Jarrod was free from his work commitments, he positioned himself downstairs in front of Nicole's house, his eyes fixed on the glowing window upstairs.

Jarrod barely slept a wink that night. It was unclear whether he had managed to sleep at all.

For the next three nights, Jarrod stood in for Nicole. According to reports of her movements, Nicole seemed quiet during those days, avoiding gatherings and staying indoors.

For three agonizing days, Jarrod had been trapped in a state of torment. Every passing second felt like a sharp sword hanging over his head, ready to strike and shatter his world at any moment.

In the end, even Conor couldn't bear to watch it any longer. Every night, Jarrod showed up punctually. Jarrod took care of the company's business during the day and then stood guard all night without a break. Even the strongest of nerves couldn't stand such relentless pressure.

Conor said, his voice tinged with concern, “Mr. Schultz, you've been through a lot. Why don't you just open up to Miss Lamence? She might be convinced if she knew how much you care. “I’m sure she wouldn’t be so cruel as to abort if she understood your feelings.”

Jarrod's response was swift, his tone cold and tinged with sarcasm. “You don't understand, Conor. No matter what I say, she'll only resent him more. “My words won’t make a dent in her resolve.” The gap between them was so great that it seemed impossible to bridge.

Conor's mind was reeling with confusion. How could a man as charming and handsome as Jarrod not win a woman's heart? Jarrod was fiercely devoted, but Nicole rejected him time and time again.

And now, the burden of carrying the child fell solely on Nicole's shoulders. Conor couldn't help but question the effectiveness of Jarrod's fervent guardianship in ensuring the safety of the baby. Any unforeseen event could jeopardize the baby's well-being in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Conor wisely chose to keep his thoughts to himself. He understood Jarrod's anxiety and realized that voicing his concerns would only serve to increase his distress.
