Chapter 1603:

? ? ? ? ?

She stood firm on her decision not to carry the pregnancy to term. Without entering into arguments, Jarrod instructed his assistant to take back the agreement. “Don't act impulsively. Review it before making a decision.”

Nicole examined the terms carefully. Under the agreement, they could dissolve their marriage after the birth, with both parties retaining visitation rights. Their children would reside with either parent but would retain the autonomy to choose their primary residence, while the other parent would be granted visitation privileges.

At first glance, the terms seemed fair. Jarrod was not coercing Nicole into giving up her children, but was instead proposing joint custody.

Nicole, however, was deeply suspicious of Jarrod. She perceived him as cunning and suspected that his desire for this child stemmed from a calculated attempt to manipulate her. Could he be so altruistic as to present such seemingly fair terms? She remained skeptical.

“Jarrod, I refuse to carry this baby to term,” Nicole declared decisively. “I won't. One child was already a problem. Adding another would only amplify her vulnerabilities, subjecting her to unrelenting torment. “I couldn’t bear that pain again.”

Jarrod maintained his calm façade, apparently having anticipated her rejection. “Nicole, consider the consequences of your decision. Are you really willing to sacrifice the chance to be with Austin and your freedom in exchange for terminating this pregnancy?”

Every word resonated with Nicole. Jarrod was trying to persuade her, using the child as a bargaining chip for what she valued most: her connection to her children and her freedom.

Jarrod had a deep understanding of Nicole's psyche. He knew that the more he pushed her, the more she would resist.

His desperation to retain the child led him to employ any means necessary. Whether threats or assurances, whatever was necessary to secure the child. He wished to retain the child as a bond between them. He harbored the naive hope that the child's birth might catalyze a transformation.

Nicole remained silent, her lips sealed, her inner turmoil inscrutable.

Sensing her reluctance, Jarrod refrained from further coercion, masking his emotions. “Take your time to think about it, Nicole.”

Nicole found herself in a dilemma. She would have preferred to refuse if she had been free to choose. However, Jarrod's offer was too tempting to ignore. Not only would she get her freedom back, but she would also have the chance to reunite with Austin.

Either option alone would have made it nearly impossible for Nicole to refuse.

"I promise you that your freedom will not be restricted during your pregnancy. If you give birth safely, I will keep my word and you will be free to live your life as you wish," Jarrod said.

Jarrod paused, letting the weight of his words sink in, then continued, “However, if you do decide to terminate the pregnancy, then we won't have anything to discuss. You must understand that fighting me over custody and visitation with Austin is a losing battle. “It won’t buy you much time with Austin.”

Nicole scoffed inwardly, feeling her emotions starting to calm down.

That sounded more like old Jarrod.

“Why are you so determined to keep the baby?” Nicole asked.

Jarrod looked at her in silence for a long moment. Then, in a serious tone, he replied, “Because this child is ours.”

That was all she needed to say. Sometimes even Jarrod wasn't sure what she wanted, but this time her intentions were crystal clear.
