Chapter 1571:
? ? ? ? ?
Despite his tough exterior, he had a soft heart and always went above and beyond to help those who had lent him a helping hand.
Roscoe might not want to admit it, but he had probably fallen into that category in Nicole's heart. Her decision to be with him wasn't just romantic; her compassion for him fueled it as well.
“Your brain…” Nicole was speechless, stunned by what she had just learned.
She hadn't realized the extent of Roscoe's suffering. The idea of a parasite eating away at his brain was an incomprehensible nightmare. Nicole felt chills.
“It's okay, Nicole. Despite everything, Emerie had a shred of decency and didn't let me die. The pills she gave me before she died saved my life. “I can handle some lingering side effects,” Roscoe reassured her.
Emerie's kindness to Roscoe, taking him to Witch's Valley, was because he had saved her life. When the parasites began to take over Roscoe's mind, he still had some control.
During a trip with Emerie, the driver unfortunately chose a less than stellar car, resulting in an accident that left Emerie trapped in her seat. Panic ensued as the driver fled the scene, leaving behind a car that was leaking oil and was about to catch fire. The situation was desperate.
Any seasoned driver knows that car fires can escalate quickly, engulfing the vehicle in a matter of minutes and sometimes leading to explosions. In the heat of the moment, the driver did not abandon Roscoe, recognizing his vital role within the family, and quickly pulled him away from the looming danger.
Despite believing herself invincible, panic gripped Emerie as thick smoke billowed into the car. She had seen the devastating consequences of car fires before and fear gripped her heart.
With a sudden burst of determination, Roscoe wrenched himself free of the driver's grasp and pulled Emerie from the car just as flames licked across the back seat, transforming the vehicle into a roaring inferno in a matter of seconds. Within fifteen minutes, the car was nothing more than a charred husk.
Emerie was deeply moved by Roscoe's courage. Having lived a life of seclusion, encountering such genuine and selfless bravery left an indelible mark on her soul. Emerie's outlook was in stark contrast to that of the chief.
While the boss became obsessed with achieving immortality, Emerie, influenced by her upbringing but still young and impressionable, developed a soft spot for Roscoe.
Roscoe was far from naive. He understood the importance of Emerie's role after the accident. He knew that his survival could be advantageous to him.
Unsurprisingly, Emerie had gone against the Watts family's wishes and used her herbal knowledge to keep Roscoe alive. Even after returning to Witch Valley, she continued to keep him alive. In Emerie's final moments, her actions to save Roscoe were her way of seeking redemption.
Nicole's concern persisted. "Roscoe, are you completely sure of your health?"
"Of course, I am a doctor, after all. I wouldn't make such a statement without first checking myself thoroughly."
Roscoe tried to reassure Nicole, aware of the weight of her worries. With a soft chuckle, he said, “I'm fine now, Nicole. “Nothing outweighs the importance of staying alive.”
“Okay, I’ll send you the pills,” Nicole replied.
Roscoe wasn't recovering as fast as he seemed. The beating he'd received had left him with a motley collection of bruises, and he was now bedridden.
He needed time to heal. Not wanting Nicole to see his condition, he quickly replied, “Don't worry, Nicole. “I’ll have someone go get them.”
