Chapter 1558:
? ? ? ? ?
Nicole shivered, feeling the palpable threat emanating from him. As she opened her mouth to respond, Jarrod ordered sharply, “Come in.”
Two bodyguards appeared at the door, causing Nicole's anxiety to skyrocket, unsure of Jarrod's next move. Ever since the valley incident, Jarrod had been eerily calm.
Now that Alec was on the mend, it seemed Jarrod was willing to settle old scores with her.
Jarrod's voice was as cold as ice as he ordered, "Take my wife home. Make sure she gets a good rest."
Jarrod paused, his voice razor-sharp. “And under no circumstances leave the house.”
Nicole felt a chill, as if she had been thrown into an icy abyss. Was he planning to print her? She stared at him, biting her lips to contain her trembling.
"Jarrod, what are you doing? You can't put me in jail. You have no right."
“You don't understand,” Jarrod said, his gaze cold and calculating. “I'm worried about your health. You need to rest.”
Turning around, Jarrod cast a stern look at the bodyguards. “What are you waiting for?”
The bodyguards grabbed Nicole's arms. Nicole fought fiercely. "Jarrod, you can't do this to me. Even though I'm your wife, you have no right to lock me up. I'm not your prisoner."
Jarrod stood stoically, his back to the door, staring out the window. He only moved when the door closed behind them.
From the window, Jarrod watched as Nicole was escorted to the car. His emotions were confused and difficult to decipher.
Despite having married the woman he wanted, he felt only frustration and anger. He understood the reason: Nicole's heart was elsewhere.
Caught in a no-holds-barred struggle, he found himself unable to harden his heart or let himself go, caught in a web of contradictions. He realized that he could no longer afford false hopes.
That night, Jarrod came home. He stood silently by the bed, watching Nicole with a chilling coldness.
Nicole, who was pretending to be asleep, remained tense, fearful of her intentions.
Eventually Jarrod crawled into bed, the faint minty scent of the shower surrounding him. He lay on his side, not making any movement, seemingly just sleeping.
Nicole, though still wary, eventually let her guard down and fell asleep.
In the morning, Jarrod was gone and Nicole woke up in an empty room. Feeling momentarily disoriented, she realized that everything was as it had been before.
Her investigation into her father's case had stalled with no word from Ethel. She pondered Roscoe's fate, wondering if he had managed to escape the clutches of the Watts family.
In the car, Jarrod gave instructions to his assistant. “The bodyguard who released Roscoe at the critical moment broke protocol. Take care of him.”
“Understood!” the aide replied, acknowledging Jarrod's order.
That bodyguard had neglected his duty by leaving the target vulnerable at a critical moment, a serious error that was unmistakable. The Schultz Group could not tolerate that within its precise organization.
The aide then reported: "Mr. Schultz, Mr. Hampton has begun spreading rumors, accusing you of treason and negligence, claiming that Miss Lawrence's jealousy prompted him to frame her daughter."
