Chapter 1559:
? ? ? ? ?
Jarrod had anticipated this. He knew Wayne's cunning well, like that of an old and dangerous fox.
But I was prepared.
“Contact the manager who oversees our joint venture with the Hampton family. Make sure their operations suffer serious losses. It’s time they learned that idle rumors have consequences,” Jarrod ordered.
Trust had never been established between Jarrod and the Hampton family. Both sides had spies in their respective operations.
Jarrod had long since identified Hampton's spy, relegating the latter to a harmless role without doing anything further.
Meanwhile, Jarrod's own spies within Hampton's ranks were strategically placed, biding their time.
Despite Wayne's shrewdness, his descendants lacked his sagacity. The younger Hamptons, whether through folly or malice, were not prepared to assume serious responsibility. The disruption caused by Vicki and Lowe was already worrying enough.
By the next day, Jarrod's instructions had been carried out effectively. The Hampton family's project had hit major snags, exposing serious security breaches that caused their stock to plummet and caused widespread public concern.
Wayne, overwhelmed by anger and stress, was hospitalized and needed days of recovery.
Vicki was released on bail after a fortnight in custody, while Lowe faced a bleaker prospect of imprisonment.
After Vicki was released, a modest car was waiting for her, which caused her indignation. “What kind of rubbish car is this? How dare they send this to pick me up?”
The driver replied wearily, "Miss Hampton, you may not know this, but all of your luxury vehicles, along with your brother's, have been sold by your father."
Shocked, Vicki exclaimed, “What? Why have all the cars been sold?”
The driver, reflecting on Vicki's recent arrest, realized that she was probably unaware of the latest developments.
He informed him: “You probably haven't heard yet, but the Hampton Group project has run into some problems. To cover the financial shortfall, your and your brother's luxury cars were sold. Also, your father has recently fallen ill and is hospitalized.”
Vicki was stunned to learn of the significant changes that had occurred within the Hampton family during her absence.
She had originally planned to confront Nicole immediately after her release, but now she felt compelled to first understand the full extent of the family crisis.
Vicki asked the driver to take her directly to the hospital to visit Wayne. There she found Wayne looking very old, his face marked by deep wrinkles.
Seeing Vicki, Wayne lowered his head. “Vicki, our family has been destroyed by Jarrod,” he said with a sigh.
Vicki, perplexed and upset, asked for details. "How could this happen?"
Wayne shared the distressing events that had occurred during Vicki's absence and then sighed heavily.
“I once believed that Jarrod harbored some affection for you, but I was wrong. He exploited our family and then discarded us. Now I am just an old man, struggling with the failure to uphold the Hampton legacy. “I dread the thought of how I will face our ancestors.”
Vicki clenched her fists, determined. “I won’t let Jarrod escape responsibility for this.”
