Chapter 1471:

? ? ? ? ?

His words served as a reminder that such freedoms were reserved only for his wife. Otherwise, he would be helpless.

Vicki's accusations appeared to have merit. Their relationship was transactional. Nicole leveraged her marital status to gain influence, while Jarrod's motives for using Nicole remained unclear.

There was no genuine love between them. Furthermore, Jarrod did not seem like a man capable of lifelong devotion.

Nicole scoffed. “So I should be grateful to you for this ‘privilege’. Are you trying to turn me into another Vicki or Doreen?”

“You are you,” Jarrod said, staring at her. “You don't need to become anyone else. As long as you're with me, you don't have to please anyone else."

Nicole was speechless. Jarrod's behavior had changed lately. He was talking more than usual, and it was becoming irritating.

He muttered, “Still, Vicki is one of your women. You've been entangled with her for years, and yet you seem indifferent to her languishing in jail. “A woman so refined, she’s probably never set foot in a police station.”

Hearing Nicole's words, a chill ran across Jarrod's handsome features. "You know I don't love Vicki," he stated flatly.

Jarrod's engagement to Vicki had been a mere reaction to the devastation Nicole had inflicted on him, a decision born of interest rather than affection.

As for the Hampton family, Jarrod no longer felt any obligation towards them. The remnants of any past guilt had dissolved.

He was not her protector, nor did he wish to continue to mitigate the repercussions of Vicki and her brother's reckless behavior. Jarrod had grown tired of dealing with their silly antics.

Vicki, on the other hand, had not always been like this. Perhaps the strain of unrequited love had transformed her. Some could heal from their wounds, while others were driven to desperate measures. In many ways, Vicki and Jarrod were similar. They both acted out of desperation in matters of love.

Nicole looked at Jarrod with a slight smirk. “Makes sense. You're inconsistent and promiscuous. Easy-going never seems to interest you, does it?”

Jarrod's gaze slowly shifted to Nicole, his eyes momentarily light with irritation. He had come with the intention of maintaining his composure, determined not to be agitated by her provocations. However, Nicole's sharp comments cut through his composure.

“Right,” Jarrod replied coolly. “I like a challenge.”

He then reached out and gently grabbed Nicole's chin, forcing her to look at him. “Why else would I be so enthralled by you?”

Nicole resisted, her tone annoyed. “Uh… Let me go…”
