Why My Mate Cries
Chapter 50

ALIYAH’S POV

My heart throbbed with happiness. I couldn’t think of a time that I felt this way before. The glimmer of hope and contentment bloomed inside of me as I stared down at Reid, who was on his bended knees, and had just asked me to be his wife and Luna.

Still in astonishment over what was happening, I covered my mouth with my hands while tears streamed down my face—this time, I could confirm that they were tears of joy.

“Reid…” I trailed off, my voice shaking, making me unable to utter another word.

He gave me the most genuine smile I’d ever seen. It was as if he’d never felt more alive than the day we met, and I could confirm that it was the same for me.

When I was in the depths of despair, he was there for me. He cheered my soul and helped me heal from the wounds of my past.

He became my sunshine. He showed me the light that I thought I’d never see in this lifetime.

And I love him… I love him so much, not because we’re mates, but because I’ve come to the point where I accepted him for who he was, every aspect of him…

“Be my wife, Aliyah. Let’s make it official,” he uttered softly.

I gasped as gratitude flowed through me. Crying in joy, I slowly nodded my head and offered him a smile.

“I’m not going to resist. I’m done with that…” I replied.

Reid chuckled. I could see in his pair of blue eyes that my answer raised his spirits. The sight of him being so happy filled me with such deep contentment.

He stood up and put the ring on my finger, and all I did was watch that priceless moment, as it would become my constant reminder that a man—an Alpha of the Jewel Pack—decided to live his life with me.

“Tell me this isn’t a dream, Reid…” I inhaled heavily and looked at him. “You made me the happiest!”

“You are my happiness, Aliyah, and I will never let you go,” he said in a heartfelt way.

Reid’s lips crashed down on mine, and just like that, I felt the searing pleasure flowing through my veins. He devoured me with his k**s, and I kissed him back with the same amount of happiness and desire. We were only interrupted by loud applause, which almost gave me a heart attack.

We both pulled away and glanced at the door frame where we saw Klaus, Liana, Sage, Alice, and Charlotte, who were smiling at us and were clearly happy to witness Reid’s proposal.

Reid wrapped his arm around my h**s and I leaned my head against his hard chest while smiling at the people watching us.

“How long have you been standing right there?” Reid asked them.

“Long enough for us to realize how the both of you are smitten with each other,” Klaus remarked with a smirk. “Congratulations, engaged couple.”

Liana and Alice shrieked in glee. They both ran towards me to embrace me. I felt wonderfully alive to know that these people were so happy for us. It was something that I’d never forget, for they have become my new home.

“I’m so happy for you, Aliyah! We heard from Charlotte that you’re pregnant!” Liana exclaimed.

I nodded at them to confirm it. Alice clasped her hands together and looked at me with such a joy in her eyes.

“It’s been a while since this pack had a baby born, so we are very excited to meet the Alpha and Luna’s first newborn!” she said.

“Thank you so much, guys…” were all the words I could say.

“So when do you plan to get married?” Klaus asked Reid curiously.

“This week,” Reid answered, before he looked down at me. “And the ceremony proclaiming Aliyah’s role as my Luna will follow the unification.”

“That sounds fun!” Liana said happily. “If you need help with the preparation, we would be happy to lend some hands!”

“Liana is right,” Alice added. “Just let us know. We want the marital unification to be perfect for both of you.”

“I appreciate all your help and support,” Reid said to them.

“No problem but…” Liana trailed off and then she sniffed. “Can we have our dinner first?”

All of us laughed. I then finished cooking the dinner and served it to the pack. Reid announced our engagement in front of the pack members in the dining area, and I was filled with praise and support that I never thought I’d be getting until I stumbled into this territory.

After dinner, Reid and I went back to our place. I was on the balcony, gazing at the moon and feeling the cold night breeze. I smiled, recalling all the great things that happened today, and I was so grateful to the Moon Goddess for letting me feel this kind of joy and contentment.

Just when I thought my life wasn’t worth living, the Moon Goddess found a way to prove to me otherwise. The moment I set my foot on this territory, I felt alive once again. Even though a small part of me was still yearning for the love of my father, or even my brother Shawn, there was no doubt that I had become complete after meeting Reid.

I felt a soft and warm blanket engulf me. My thoughts were ripped out when I glanced over my shoulder and realized that Reid had put a blanket on my shoulders to protect me from the coldness of the night. He hugged me from behind, which made my body feel warmer, and I could only smile at his sweet gesture.

“Penny for your thoughts?” he said softly.

I drew in a breath and leaned my head against his chest. I shut my eyes for a split second, feeling the greatness of our current position.

“I just can’t believe that we are finally getting married,” I answered.

He pressed his lips to the side of my head. “Should I pinch your cheek then?”

I giggled like a kid, but before he could pinch me, I had already pinched him in his arm. He g*****d a bit, but after that he just laughed and embraced me tighter.

“Do you think I’m capable of being your Luna?” I asked all of a sudden as the thought of becoming his Luna somehow overwhelmed me.

Being a Luna takes a lot of responsibility. I wasn’t sure if I could perform my duty knowing that I was pregnant. But I don’t want to disappoint any of them…

“Here you are, doubting yourself again,” he uttered as he breathed in. “You don’t have to think about the responsibility you have to face, Aliyah. Our priority is your health and keeping our child safe.”

“But I have to do something as your Luna, isn’t that correct?” I asked curiously and looked back at him.

“Yes.” He smiled and kissed my cheek. “You have to be yourself. You don’t need to please anyone here, Aliyah. We like you for how natural you are.”

I blinked in surprise, and seconds later, I just smiled at his words.

“I love you, Reid.”

He made me turn to him and responded, “I love you too, Aliyah…”

And then, under the moonlight, he kissed me, and it was more than enough to keep the negative thoughts away.
