"Let's eat."

After placing her empty cup on the table, Sherilyn gestured towards the breakfast in front of him.

"Alright..."

Gilbert nodded, lowering his head to eat. Suddenly, he sniffed, "What's that smell?"

"Can't you tell?"

Sherilyn gave him a quick look and pointed towards the door leading from the kitchen to the backyard. "It's your medicine." "Oh."

Gilbert nodded, his brow furrowing slightly.

Sherilyn explained, "This servant, Mr. Harrison brought him over from the main house. He's been up since before dawn preparing it. It should be ready by now..."

As she spoke, the servant came over with a tray.

On the tray was an ivory-white porcelain bowl filled with a thick, potent concoction.

"Mr. Nine," the servant placed the porcelain bowl in front of Gilbert, "your medicine."

Sherilyn couldn't help but frown at the strong medicinal odor; just the smell alone was enough to suggest its bitterness.

"This thing..." Gilbert's adam's apple bobbed, showing his reluctance, "Do I really have to drink it?"

"Just have it."

Sherilyn urged softly, "Medicine needs to be taken warm, it loses its effectiveness when it cools down."

This was also what the doctor had advised her yesterday.

"Fine..."

Gilbert grimaced, picking up the medicine bowl.

"Wait!"

Sherilyn caught his arm, standing up quickly, "Just hang on a sec."

With that, she turned and darted away.

"Sherilyn?" Gilbert looked puzzled. Where had she gone?

In no time, Sherilyn returned, holding a lollipop, unwrapping it right in front of Gilbert.

Then, she motioned with her hand.

"Drink up."

"Okay..." Gilbert managed a weak smile, obediently lifting the bowl.

He took a sip and immediately, his face scrunched up from the bitterness. It was even worse than he had imagined!

"Don't stop!"

Sherilyn watched him intently, one

hand steadying the bowl, "Downt

one

It'll be even harder to drink if stop!"

"Mm..." Gilbert closed his eyes, taking large gulps.

Setting down the empty bowl, his entire mouth felt numb from the bitterness.

Blinking, he looked at Sherilyn with a mix of innocence and grievance.

"Open up!" Sherilyn instantly popped the lollipop into his mouth, "Sweeten your mouth."

Caught off guard, a wave of sweetness burst on his tongue.

"Sweet?" Sherilyn's eyelashes fluttered, watching his reaction.

"... Yeah." Gilbert was momentarily stunned, the sweetness spreading from his tongue to his heart. His smile reached his ears, "Sweet!"

His tongue circled the candy, he teased, "Did you just sneak out to steal Jenna's candy?"

"Steal?" Sherilyn raised an eyebrow, "All those candies were bought by you for her, weren't they?" Though she said so, there was a hint of guilt in her voice.

"Ha ha." Gilbert continued to tease her, "What if Jenna finds out and gets mad at you?"

"Will she find out?"

Sherilyn's eyes widened, "No way, she has so many candies... I only took one."

"Well, you never know."

Gilbert smirked mischievously, "Kids see the world differently than adults. Those candies are her treasures." "Then..."

Sherilyn's guilt deepened, glaring at

him, "If she finds out, you tell her you ate itt has nothing to do with me!"

"Ha ha..." Gilbert couldn't help but laugh at her anxious look, his mouth wouldn't close.

"What's so funny?" Sherilyn got flustered, "It was you who ate it after all!"

"Ha ha... Yes!" Gilbert couldn't stop laughing, agreeing wholeheartedly.

"Stop laughing!" Sherilyn was a bit annoyed.

"Okay, no more laughing..." Gilbert struggled to control his laughter, but the joy in his eyes remained.

Days like this, so wonderful, felt like living a dream...
