True Love
Chapter 8

Apparently they had been attacked by surprise by a band of wild wolves, killing their alpha in the process, along with a large number of older wolves. The invaders knew very well where the old convalescent was, so they were able to finish him off in his human form.

To the bad luck of his pack he had no sons, only one daughter and she had not yet transformed into a she-wolf, so she could not take her father’s place. For this reason the council of elders decreed that it was best for the two packs to unite under the command of a single alpha, since the territories of both were very close.

His father, the alpha Marcus Dallas, was not very convinced by such a merger, the white wolves were known for being disrespectful and racist, they believed much for the simple fact that all the members of that family were of the same color.

But despite their protests the council had made the final decision, and there was Ethan studying how to integrate some reluctant wolves in the most civilized way possible, they had to adapt to their culture and rules, and if any wolf found his mate among them they would have to accept, they would be a family from now on.

It would become a big problem if they refused to fraternize with them, they were said to be incredibly beautiful, well he was inclined towards the females but as the saying goes “seeing is believing”.

Since he had only seen his alpha in wolf form when he was just a pup he was extraordinary, big and very hairy, as white as snow and his eyes were yellow almost orange, so it wasn’t too strange that someone would take notice of them.

Blue Moon had the capacity to house many, total those that would arrive in a few days or weeks were not many maybe about thirty. He was worried about those damn wild wolves, they were everywhere spreading like pests.

They had been dealing with them for years and looking for their leader but they couldn’t find him, he was very cunning. They had killed many of them, as well as they had killed their own, but as their name said they were wild and for that reason they did not communicate, they looked like dogs, they only growled, bit and ate their own kind.

After several exhaustive investigations they discovered that they had been normal human beings, but that they did not return to their normal state. What they could not explain was why their size, they were not very tall, like common wolves.

They were totally wild, they only attack to kill and eat, the elders concluded that they were not sane with what they were doing, that they were only animals and their human side had disappeared.

That’s why they were so dangerous, if six or seven of those wolves attacked a wolf they could kill it, they had a strong bite. Apparently they trained them well because they knew exactly where to bite so they could take down their opponent. Their leader knew them very well and that was a big problem.

-Hey you! I’m hungry.

-You’re a big girl Megan, I think you can feed yourself.

-I’m still a minor, you have to take care of me. She told him laying down on the couch.

-You are responsible for yourself in that aspect, I’ll take care of you in other ways. He told her without taking his eyes off the documents.

-How boring you are, I’m starving.

-Megan, I’m very busy, go to the kitchen and make yourself something to eat. He looked at her seriously.

-Sometimes you are so obnoxious, you need to find your mate. He looked at her a little bit sad, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to…

-He sighed and pointed to the door without looking at her.

-Okay.

His sister got up silently and left him alone with his thoughts.

He was right about one thing, he wanted to find her as soon as possible, he didn’t want to be alone anymore and even less when it was his turn to be the leader, he knew the pain his father felt without his wife by his side, he didn’t want that.

He continued reading the list of all the wolves that would arrive, looking for houses and land for the construction of their new homes. Suddenly something far-fetched but very possible came to his mind, what if in the pack that was about to arrive he found his she-wolf? A white she-wolf? It could very well be possible that he would be rejected and that would be more than painful.

The wolf rule was that if your mate rejected you there was no turning back, you could go on with your life, meet another female and form a family with her but she would never be your equal, you would never mark her as yours, much less have that mate bond.

It was sad and he knew of many cases of rejection that had already happened in the pack, but that was how it happened and there was no remedy.

She sighed as she turned her chair towards the window, her father’s house was guarded by some wolves whether her father was in the residence or not, there was always someone watching. He heard noises of pots and pans downstairs, his sister would be making a mess as she didn’t know how to cook anything how did she intend to get married? He was the only one cooking, he picked the bridge of his nose and headed for the door, he had no choice but to help Megan. After all, he was hungry too.

-Shery, I think I heard noises downstairs.

-Shh… Sleep, I’m sure it’s daddy.

-It’s okay, we have school tomorrow.

-I’m not going anymore.

-What are you talking about? You’re about to graduate.

-I need more working hours, Eve. I need more money. -I can’t waste my time studying.

-You’re crazy! Her sister got up from the bed angrily sitting on her bed.

-Go to sleep, Eve, don’t make any noise, Dad must be drunk.

-I just can’t believe you’re dropping out of school.

It was a fact that she had left school, the only bad thing was that she was leaving work very late and on the other hand Eve would be forced to arrive alone at the cafe to return home together, she was afraid of having to let her walk alone, but she had to make that sacrifice for both of them. She had only been working for two days, but with what she earned in a few days they would be out of Daren’s house and far away.

That night after work she would have to meet Eve in the park, after school she would meet with a group of girls to advance subjects, of course all of them followed her because her sister was a brainiac in every sense of the word.

There was a big difference between them, because unlike Eve, studying was a nightmare for her. She only enrolled in the school to be able to accompany her little sister, because since she was little, she always wanted to work to be able to get out of that hole at home.

-Come on, Shery, what are you thinking, take your orders to the table.

-Yes, sorry, I’m in another world.

-Always the same, girl. Take this to table two and three.

She took the trays. But still she kept thinking that her sister had left four hours ago and her shift was ending in half an hour, she was nervous, they were almost never separated at that time of the night, she just hoped that her father wouldn’t go crazy because of the arrival time. Well, they didn’t ask her to explain much either.

She had finally finished her hours, working full time was too exhausting but she was getting very good tips. She changed her clothes, taking off her uniform, that day she had put on a wine-colored dress five centimeters above the knee.

Eve insisted that she put it on as she was moving to another facet of her life, she needed to dress like a woman and not like a teenager “as she told her” as it was very cold she put on black high stockings as she did not want to walk with bare legs on the street, her sister argued with her but in the end she won the fight. Then she put on some black booties and finally her coat. She liked her new look, she fixed her hair in a high ponytail… she was ready.

-Ethan, you know you’re like my brother, I really appreciate you but… What the hell are we doing here again?

-I don’t know JB, my wolf is restless and so am I. -But why here?

-But why here? You know it’s forbidden to walk around town at night. Seriously old man you are a bad influence.

-I feel something is about to happen, I need to be here.

-Wait, you pulled me out of an awesome party to bring me here just because you felt you had to come, and by the way… you left Megan alone.

-She’ll be fine, as long as she doesn’t leave the house.

-I don’t think she’s alone.

His friend told him very seriously, stopping in front of a bakery full of people shopping with great eagerness. His eyes shone with great intensity.

-Do you like Megan?

-What are you talking about? That’s not what this is about… This is about you losing your mind, we’ll find nothing in this town but trouble. Going home at night through that wild wolf infested forest is very dangerous.

-Give me five minutes.

-Fine, that’s all I’ll give you.

They continued walking through the crowded streets, shopping, enjoying the cold but pleasant night….

While Shery walked in a hurry, she had taken a shortcut to be able to get to the park faster, she hated having to take that way but she was already late and surely her sister would be alone waiting for her.

She kept walking until she heard loud footsteps coming from behind her, she was a little scared but continued her walk with a determined step. The shortest way was an alley that connected directly to a block from the park, that’s why she had used it that night, if she used the normal way it would take her about twenty minutes to get there, but the truth was that she was regretting them.
