True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1512
That pair of arms that used to hold her tightly.
He actually came to the convenience store.
Celeste's heart was pounding. But she soon realized that she might have overreacted.
She calmed herself down, collected her thoughts, and placed her umbrella in one of the stands outside of the convenience store.
Acting as though she hadn't seen him, Celeste took a shopping basket and entered the store. Somehow, she felt a sharp gaze piercing through her back.
Gary's gaze had never left her. After Celeste entered the store, he wondered if she had seen him, but he had no choice but to follow her in fear of losing her.
He followed her into the store, placed the umbrella as she did outside, and picked up a shopping basket.
He followed her closely, afraid that she would disappear from his sight the very next second.
He noticed that Celeste had a shopping list with her.
Celeste headed directly towards the aisle that had sanitary pads.
She stood in front of the shelves, reaching out to one of the sanitary pads to read the information on the packaging.
She took a large pack, placed it in the basket before reaching for several smaller ones.
Gary caught this from the corner of his eyes. The tampons were differentiated between day and night use.
Soon, Celeste left the aisle.
Her back was facing towards him. Her short hairstyle couldn't cover her ears, so it was obvious that her ears were slightly red.
Her neck was slender, pale and beautiful. She remained incredibly beautiful with short hair.
Her neck was hidden in the collar of her loose sweater, and he could make out the soft lines against her neck.
Gary kept staring at her.
He saw her pick up a few bags of chips after purchasing the sanitary pads.
It was when he saw her buying snacks did he realize that he never bought her any snacks before. Girls loved eating snacks.
In the past, Janice would frequently bring snacks
over when she visited them for meals.
Thinking of Janice, Gary snorted and laughed at himself. He had overlooked the entire situation.
He deserved it.
He had never bought snacks for Celeste. During the whole summer vacation, he hadn't even once bought her snacks.
He observed her as she took the snacks and placed them in the shopping basket. He then copied what she did.
He took a bunch of different brands of chips and placed them in his shopping basket.
As he chose his share of snacks, his gaze never left Celeste's figure, fearing that he would lose her.
Celeste noticed that he was also standing in the snack aisle.
In fact, she felt uncomfortable once she noticed it. She bought the snacks so she could share them with Maria at night.
Since she came home, she and Maria would often meet up and chat. She would get hungry in the middle of the night and crave some snacks, so she bought some. Maria would definitely like them.
Gary was staring at her, which made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't know what he was trying to do, so she chose not to ignore him.
She turned to look at him, and their eyes met.
He felt embarrassed as though he was a deer caught in headlights, "Celeste..."
"You're here?" Celeste spoke indifferently. There was a slight discomfort in her tone, polite but cold.
"Yes." He nodded, his heart sinking, "I came to do some grocery shopping."
"You're also craving for some snacks?" Celeste asked.
"Mhm." The corner of his lips lifted into a feeble, awkward smile.
Celeste continued selecting her snacks.
She no longer looked at him.
On the other hand, Gary continued staring at her as he tried to see through her mind. Was she mad?
Was she mad that he had followed her there?
Gary was about to say something but Celeste had already left.
She went to the other aisle to grab a bag of potato chips.
Gary copied her movements. He reached out to grab another bag of chips that was on the same
shelf.
As he passed by another shelf, he spotted a box of brown sugar, which he then proceeded to place two of into his basket.
His actions were swift.
Celeste had everything she needed and went to pay the bill.
She didn't wait for him, intending to leave the store once she paid the bill.
Gary quickly followed suit to the checkout counter.
Celeste turned around to look at him and asked, slightly frowning, "You have everything you need?"
"Yes." Gary nodded.
Celeste was stunned before she continued, "Then you can go ahead and settle your bill. I suddenly remembered that I have a few other items to buy."
She turned around and left the cashier.
Gary immediately intercepted her, "I remembered that I need to get a few things too."
He didn't pay the bill and quickly followed her.
Celeste stopped and stared at him.
Her gaze was calm. Gary tensed up.
He was taken aback and started to panic. He wanted to explain by saying, "I'm here to buy a pack of cigarettes, and I thought it would be nice to buy some snacks since I'm here. I forgot about the most important thing, the cigarettes."
Celeste was bewildered. It was hard to describe her feelings at that moment. Since when did he smoke?
That was a terrible habit.
She frowned but stayed silent.
He went ahead and placed a box of cigarettes in the shopping basket.
Celeste didn't buy anything else. She went to pay the bill.
He had caught up with her again.
Celeste stood in front of him, feeling rather uncomfortable having her behind her. However, Gary offered to pay their bill.
Soon he took out his wallet. Celeste wanted to decline, but he had already paid.
The cashier looked at them and commented with a smile, "Miss, your boyfriend is really handsome."
Celeste wanted to correct her, but Gary cracked into a bright smile and repeatedly thanked the cashier. Celeste held her own plastic bag, not wanting to mix their items up.
However, just as she took two steps towards the door, her bag was taken from her hand.
She was stunned. The man beside her took the bag in her hand away, holding several plastic bags. "Celeste, I'll help you carry those."
She felt helpless. It was an unnecessary move, but she decided against saying anything else.
She went to grab her umbrella and hurried out of the store. Before she could open the umbrella, a gust of wind blew past her as the pouring rain dampened her clothes.
Celeste shrank her neck out of instinct. She shivered from the cold.
It was so cold.
With his quick reflexes, Gary pulled her into his embrace.
He was so strong that she came crashing into his arms.
Both of them froze.
She could smell his scent, it was a very familiar scent.
A familiar warmth filled her eyes.
She stood still, distancing himself from her.
Gary's gaze turned cold. He placed the shopping bag on a chair and took off his jacket.
At that, Celeste was quick-witted enough to understand his intentions.
She voiced out, "There's no need."
Gary ignored her and proceeded to wrap her body in his jacket that retained his warmth, saying in a rare, gentle voice, "Put this on. It's way too cold. Your body won't be able to take it." "I..." Celeste was about to retort.
But he zipped up his jacket without even giving her a chance to speak.
"You'll be a little warmer." He lowered his head to look at her and said, "Your pants are damp. You should head back home and take a hot shower."
She didn't say anything.
He picked her umbrella up and handed it to her.
Celeste took it, turned around, and left. Her heart was in a chaotic state.
Gary followed after with his own umbrella and the plastic bags in hand.
Celeste didn't know if it was because of the thick coat or if it was because of Gary's warmth, but one thing was for sure, she did feel warmer.
She turned around to look at him, only to realize that he only had a thin layer of clothes on. She couldn't help but worry for him.
Her initially conflicting feelings were once again tangled into a knot when she saw him wearing such thin clothing.
"You're wearing such thin clothing. You'll catch a cold," She said.
"I'm not cold." He looked at her with a serious look on his face, "I've always felt warm. A man at my age isn't bothered by the cold."
Celeste refused to believe him as she went to take off his coat and return it to him.
However, he stopped her. He placed the umbrella on his neck and used his free hand to stop her, "Don't move. I'm fine. I take cold showers at night. I'm not cold at all." The cold shower statement turned the atmosphere awkward.
Celeste came to a realization. She looked at him with embarrassment and refuted, "You pervert."
Gary was dumbstruck. He realized what he just said and smiled bitterly, but he didn't try to explain himself.
Celeste turned around and left.
Gary hurriedly followed suit.
They walked side by side without saying a word.
They walked at a steady pace, but Gary kept protecting her by preventing passers-by from running into her.
She had always thought about this, just the two of them shopping and walking together.
To share the same umbrella and walk in the rain.
But such a thing only happened after they had broken up.
How could they not sigh and lament about things being so unpredictable?
There was no point in reminiscing. It was time to look forward. Celeste reminded herself not to dwell on the past.
